Chapter 200

Chapter 200

Two days later, Elizabeth received a call from Ethan. They arranged to meet at Elizabeth's home.

Ethan didn't come alone—he brought someone else.

"It's you." Seeing the other person again, Elizabeth felt as if worlds had passed.

Freya Stewart's face was pale, her expression dazed. She stared at Elizabeth for a while before recognizing her. "It's you..."

But turning her head and seeing Ethan, Freya immediately showed terror. "I told you everything! You promised—if I told the truth, you'd let me go!"

Elizabeth couldn't help but look at Ethan.

Ethan's expression was ice-cold. "Tell her what you know again. Word for word."

Freya didn't dare resist. She honestly told the truth. "Five years ago, Angelina often called me. We had a good relationship. Angelina often said she liked someone, but there were too many people around him—she couldn't get close. Later I learned that person was Cornelius."

"She said Cornelius had someone he liked—really liked—and people who liked him..."

So Angelina had been crystal clear about everything around Cornelius.

Elizabeth felt a chill run down her spine. Back then, she'd had a crush on Cornelius, but it was just silent affection. She'd never thought of approaching him or learning about him. It was just a crush, absolutely not obsession.

But Angelina...

What did it feel like to be watched in secret by someone who knew everything?

In any case, Elizabeth found it terrifying.

Freya continued, "We had a good relationship. She often came out to eat and drink with me, talking about her feelings. That's how I learned she had a secret crush on someone. One day, she told me Cornelius was getting married. I thought it was to Daisy, but it turned out to be you. Angelina was unwilling to accept it."

Freya still remembered that day.

Angelina had cried inconsolably. She'd gotten drunk, grabbing Freya and asking, "Why? Why can she and I can't? Why? I was the one who knew Cornelius first! Elizabeth... what gives her the right?"

Freya really couldn't stand watching it, so she said, "If you're upset, we'll find a way to teach her a lesson."

Angelina's crying stopped abruptly. "You mean..."

Freya pulled herself from the memory, her face pale as she defended herself. "I swear, I really only wanted to teach you a lesson, let off some steam for her. I never imagined she'd want to kill two birds with one stone."

One plan to eliminate two people.

"I remember it was chaotic at that dinner party, and then you disappeared." Elizabeth's memories of those events were somewhat unclear, but she remembered most of the scenes.

Freya shrank back but still nodded. "Yes. At the time, I thought Angelina just wanted to teach you a lesson. I was responsible for bringing you there, then I made an excuse and slipped away..."

But the next day, she got the news—Daisy was dead, Elizabeth was ill.

This wasn't what she'd thought at all!

"I went to confront Angelina, but she said she didn't know anything either. She wasn't even there at the time. I didn't dare ask around, afraid people would find out. But Angelina was more terrifying than I'd imagined." Freya said, shrinking. "She said... she wanted me to commit suicide. Stage it."

That way, everyone would sympathize with Freya. Everyone would think she was the innocent one who got dragged into it.

The matter seemed to settle like that.

But Freya was forever trapped in that day. So many years passed. No one mentioned it, so she thought it was truly over.

Until Ethan found her.

Freya collapsed on the ground in agony. "Please let me go! Don't come looking for me anymore! It really wasn't my fault! Angelina made me do it all! From start to finish, I only did one thing—bring Elizabeth to that party. Angelina hated her. Even if it wasn't me, it would have been someone else!"

Elizabeth closed her eyes in pain.

Yes, even if it hadn't been Freya, it would have been someone else. Once Angelina had planned everything, she wouldn't let her escape.

Ethan said coldly, "Too bad there are no 'ifs.' That person was you. You're not the mastermind, but you're an accomplice."

Two people came in from outside and took Freya away. Freya struggled and screamed, but it was useless.

Elizabeth couldn't help but ask, "Where are you taking her?"

"Don't worry. I know what I'm doing." Ethan glanced at her. "You still have the heart to worry about others. While investigating Angelina, I also found out something else—about your father."

"What do you mean?"

Ethan pulled out an envelope and gave it to her. "See for yourself."

After reading it, Elizabeth's face turned deathly pale. She said with hatred, "Angelina—she's truly insane!"

Ethan's eyes were full of loathing. "So we need to make her fall completely, never to rise again."

"What a coincidence. I was thinking the same thing." Elizabeth said coldly.

The two who'd been at odds for years had reached consensus for the first time.

A month later, the Habsburg Group's annual new product launch was held at the International Convention Center.

The venue was brilliantly lit, media swarming.

Ethan, as a partner representative, was speaking on stage.

"Today, besides introducing our new product, I also want to tell everyone a truth." Ethan's voice traveled through the microphone across the entire venue.

Below the stage, Angelina, sitting beside Isaac, frowned slightly. Her instincts told her something was wrong. She turned her head and whispered to Isaac beside her, "What is Ethan going to say today? Why isn't this part in the program?"

Isaac also looked puzzled. "Maybe it's an impromptu speech?"

Just then, Elizabeth walked in through the side door.

She wore a simple white shirt and black wide-leg pants, her hair neatly tied in a ponytail, bare-faced, yet carrying a quality that made the entire venue instantly quiet.

Everyone recognized her.

Cornelius's wife, and also the somewhat famous streamer EllieW.

But her appearance here today was inherently unusual.

"Elizabeth? What's she doing here?"

"Didn't they say she and Mr. Habsburg are getting divorced?"

"They're getting divorced, but they haven't divorced yet."

"But the one who came with Mr. Habsburg today is Angelina. Angelina's about to give birth. I heard the child is Mr. Habsburg's."

People whispered among themselves.

Cornelius sat in the VIP seat. Seeing Elizabeth appear at the door, his brows furrowed sharply. He stood up, wanting to go over, but was held back by Angelina beside him. "Cornelius, so many people are watching..."

In that delay, Elizabeth had already walked to the podium.

And Ethan stepped aside from the microphone.

Isaac sensed something was wrong and immediately had his people try to stop it. But a security team suddenly appeared, blocking Isaac's people.

Today's security work was handled by Ethan's people.

"Ethan, what are you doing?" Isaac demanded angrily.

Ethan looked at him, his lips curving into a cold arc. "Don't worry. You'll know soon enough."

Elizabeth picked up the microphone, her voice clearly traveling across the venue. "Media friends, today, borrowing the Habsburg Group's launch event, I have a truth to tell about a tragedy from five years ago."

The crowd instantly erupted.

Cornelius shot to his feet. "Elizabeth, what are you doing?"

Angelina's expression changed dramatically. She instinctively clutched her handbag tighter.

Elizabeth's gaze swept lightly over both of them. "Five years ago, my best friend Daisy died in a car accident. Everyone thought it was an accident, including me. I thought I'd killed her. These past five years, I've lived every day in guilt and self-blame."

She paused, her voice trembling slightly, but quickly steadied. "But what I'm saying today is that Daisy's death was not an accident—it was murder. And the killer..."

She raised her hand, pointing at Angelina below the stage. "Is her."

"You're talking nonsense!" Angelina screamed, her eyes instantly reddening. "Elizabeth, I know you hate me, but you can't frame me like this! My cousin's death was an accident—you killed her!"

Elizabeth opened the tablet in her hand, connecting it to the large screen. "I used to think the same as you, but recently, with Mr. Glover's help, I found some evidence."
