Chapter 140. it's over
Chapter 140. it's over
Laura lifted her suitcase stairs by stairs as she descended it until she reached the ground floor. Not catching sight of Nathan, she guessed he may have probably gone over to the living room. Moving to pull her suitcase to call out to him, the sounds of footsteps and a familiar high toned voice stopped her in her tracks.
“What is this? Is my dream finally coming through or what?” Rachel said from behind as she approached Laura who gently turned around to stare at the girl. “You've finally decided to use that pretty head of yours, huh?”
Laura held firmly on the handle of her suitcase. “Rachel, I really am not in the right mood for this. You were so stuck on the idea that Leo was yours right? Well now…you can keep him for yourself.
Rachel's eyes beamed in excitement at the news. Before she could speak next, the door of the mansion was pushed open and the two Carter males walked in— Archibald first and then Leo followed right behind him.
Laura felt her grip around the suitcase tightened. She was hoping she would leave without Leo's grandfather catching sight of her doing so. She knew how much the man had done for her and to make her relationship with Leo work, but she thinks she had finally exhausted that strength in her.
“Laura?” Archibald called her name remotely as he stepped in to notice the suitcase she had in front of her. Then he looked back at the tense atmosphere between Laura and Rachel. “Did something happen while we were away?”
Laura shook her head immediately. “It's nothing grandfather. I just thought it was time for me to leave.” She said to the older man who raised a questioning gaze and she nodded. “This is my answer.”
Archibald stared at the girl for a brief moment before a warm smile formed on his lips. He nodded at her answer as he knew there was nothing else he could do anymore. “You'd be good.” He said as he opened his arms for her and Laura moved to embrace him tightly. She felt like another set of tears were about to drop out from her eyes but she had to hold them in.
Archibald patted gently behind her back. “Choose quality over quantity, my dear.” The older man said to her as they withdrew themselves from the hug. “I must say, you've made quite a healthy decision, my dear. I hope it favors you.”
Laura nodded. “Thank you, grandfather.”
Giving her one last gentle pat at her back, he walked past her to head to his room. Leaving the three of them alone in the hallway.
“Laura? What are you doing?” Leo finally spoke as his grandfather disappeared.
“You're obviously not stupid as you have eyes.” Her warmness had immediately disappeared the moment Archibald left her side. “That way; you would have enough air and space to raise your child and your new family.”
Leo didn't understand her clearly as he took some steps towards her. “What exactly is this that you're on about?”
“It means we're through, Leo. Can you understand that?” Her words were so cold that it caused a silence to fall between them. “This stupid thing I thought we had is completely over. I don't want to ever see you anywhere close to me again.”
A puzzled look formed on his face instantly. “Laura, you can't be serious.” He said as he reached out to hold her wrist. “What do you mean it's over?”
“Leo, let go of me.” She said with her eyes tightly shut as she tried to hold in the temper that was rising in her.
“Who do you think you are to dumb me down at your own will? All because you can't stomach the fact of what is happening?”
“Leo, I said let go!” She shouted as her eyes flared open.
Rachel quickly moved towards them. “Leo, just let her g…”
“Stay the freaking hell out of this, Rachel. This doesn't concern you.” His voice was sharp and it caused disbelief to wash over Rachel. Then Leo moved his stare back to her. “Tell me, what's your reason huh? Huh?”
Before Leo could speak any further, the sound of hurried footsteps sounded in the room and before Leo could register it, he was pushed back from Laura, completely losing her hold around her as well as causing him to stumble back.
“Get your freaking hand away from her, you idiot.” Nathan who had just appeared stared back at his cousin with a deadly gaze.
Seeing him present, Leo broke into a bitter smile. “Unbelievable. What are you now? A roach who follows her around like she's some food?”
“It's funny how you think you should be making jokes at this moment.” Nathan's words dripped with annoyance and anger in them.
With that, Leo turned his gaze back to Laura who hadn't said anything.
“You brought him here, didn't you? To fight me or something?”
“Oh please. I lack the interest to entertain your trivial questions and display. Nathan, can we go now?”
Nathan immediately became defensive and moved to block them. “And where the hell do you think you're going with her? Have you really not gotten the big picture yet that she can never be yours?”
Nathan on the other hand opened his mouth to speak, but Laura beat him to it. “It's fine, Nathan. I think I'll be the one to handle this moron.” She left hold of her suitcase and took closer steps. “I think you're the only one here not getting the big picture like you so call it. There is nothing and I mean absolutely nothing going on between us. Not now. Now later or ever again. I want you to stay the freaking hell away from me. Stay away.”
Leo was speechless for a few seconds before recomposing himself. “You really want to end things so easily? After what it took us to get back together like this. Or have you forgotten how hard it was?”
A bitter chuckle escaped her lips. “how hard? Thinking back at it now, I think I made things much easier for you.” She said as she lowered her head. “Tell me, when were you going to tell me that I was just here for the sake of you getting your inheritance?”
At her words, Leo had visibly gone stiff and Laura noticed it instantly which caused a small smile on her face.
“How long exactly were you planning on staying with me before going back to your girlfriend over there? Probably till after your inheritance has been approved, right?”
“Laura, it's not what I'm thinking.”
“Of course it's not what I'm thinking. Basically I've done all my thinking on the way here and there's nothing else to think about at this point.” She said and her smile was immediately wiped away as she took some steps closer to him. “Leonard Carter, you're trash and a dirty scumbag who deserves nothing but all the worst things life could throw at someone. You deserve every single hardship and ounce of pain you have made me go through for the last ten years.” Her eyes flared with pure rage and disdain as she took in his sight
“You can't be serious, Laura.” He said as his face had been etched into a deep frown. “Has Nathan brainwashed you again into this? Is that why you're saying all this nonsense right now?”
Laura scoffed. “It may be nonsense to you, but I am being very serious right now. You have no idea how much I hate you, Leonard. You disgust me and you're just filth that deserves to be thrown away.” She breathed out all at once. Then she passed a glance back at Rachel who also had a frown on her face. But she could barely care about anything anymore.
“You two are perfect for each other. A bunch of toxic morons. You fit quite well, don't you think?”
“You better watch your mouth, you…”
“And you sure as hell better watch yours.” Laura's Sharon words cut her off. “Unless you want me to make the lie about pushing you down the stairs happen.”
Laura watched the small emotion of fear cross her face but it disappeared as soon as it came.
“I'm not thinking right now, remember? I could easily get rid of you and that thing in your stomach without even lifting a finger. After all, it all boils down to money and the right connection. So I'd warn you to really think about what you say right now before letting them drop.” Laura's words seemed to have muted Rachel who seemed slightly terrified to say anymore words.
Turning back to Leo, she caught sight of him glaring at her, but she was barely fazed. “I just hope your child doesn't turn out this way. That would be another taint in the Carter's bloodline. Having you is already hard enough.”
