Chapter 135. Always mine
Chapter 135. Always mine
Rachel's hand clenched into a fist as she watched the stupid smile that was formed on Laura's face. The urge to kill her right there in the spot was so high, but she wouldn't risk making such an attempt at the place they were.
“Anything else you have to say to me?” Laura asked as she stared at Rachel's rage filled face. But she didn't say anything else and with that, Laura pushed her chair back so she could get up. “Since you've obviously run out of things to say, I will be heading to my room now.”
While Laura had already begun walking away, Rachel's words out her hold to her steps. “You're going to lose him, Laura.” She said suddenly.
Laura still standing in one spot suddenly turned around so she could stare Rachel in the eyes. There was a mischievous smile drawn over her lips that made Laura slightly unsettled.
“And what exactly do you mean by that?”
Rachel snickered as she also pushed her chair back and rose up to her feet. “It's as you heard me, Laura.” She began making her way towards where Laura stood before coming to stand face to face with her.
“And that's the plain truth, my dear.” She added. “If you think being on your A game is going to get you back what you lost? Then you are very mistaken my darling. Leo is mine. He has always been mine and he always will be mine. The moment you learn to come to terms with that, the healthier you'd probably be.”
Laura tried not to appear weak before Rachal of all people who seemed to be having a thrill trying to get under her skin. And it was very much working although Laura mustered all the strength she possibly could not to show it.
“What? Are you saying this now because of that?” Laura said as she pointed at Rachel's stomach. “Do you think that's your free ticket way now to holding tightly onto Leo?”
Rachel shrugged. “It's a good leash regardless, and a very good one at that.” She said with a wide smile. “We both know Leo. Regardless of the fact he can get all clumsy and temperamental, he has his head directly where he wants them. And right now, his head is focused on this.” Rachel placed her hand against her stomach. “Some men can help but yield to certain responsibilities like this one.”
A scoff escaped Laura's lips. “You seem really excited to have the kids for other reasons of holding Leo down rather than actually having it.”
Rachel didn't say anything immediately and the two ladies just exchanged hard glares at each other.
“If I want to take a wild guess, I could probably say you went out, got yourself pregnant just so you can claim rights to someone who obviously belongs to someone else.”
At her words, Rachel burst out in a loud fit of laughter that echoed through the dining room.
“Oh God, you're honestly so funny.” She said, ruffling her hair to the side. “Belongs to someone? Who? You?” Then she scoffed. “The pitiful wife who wouldn't hesitate to take whatever Leo throws at her. You're eating right out of the paw of his hands. And you think that makes you all that?”
“Rachel—”
“I've excited Leonard in so many ways you couldn't have in your five miserable years as a wife. Give him so much more than what he can just find on the outside and you think he's going to run away from that to be with…you?”
“You really need to pull your shoulders down, Rachel."
“And you really need to open your eyes, rather than pretending to be such a blind shit.” Her words were sharp and unrestrained. “You lost Leo even before you got married to him and he came to me. He'll always find a way to come to me so you really need to call it quits when you're trying to compete with me.
With that, Rachel walked past Laura who felt her entire body trembling in anger. Rachel had done a very fine job in getting to her and it took every ounce of strength she could muster right there not to lay a loud slap across Rachel's face. She knew for a fact that things weren't good with Leo at this point, and adding more things to the list would only make things worse.
“Also, for one last thing,” Rachel's voice sounded from behind Laura. But Laura didn't turn back. “Just giving you a quick sightseeing here since you're too adamant to accept your reality now.” There was a mocking tone that lingered in her voice.
“And what reality is that, Rachel?” Laura asked while she still had her back facing Rachel.
“Things are going to end. Between yourself and Leo.” She said, her voice loud and firm as if she wasn't taking a guess but making a very clear conclusion. “It's going to play out this way, either he walks away first, or you do. Although I'd very much like you to walk away first. That would make things easier to deal with for me.”
Then the sound of fading footsteps filled up the room.
“Think smart, Laura.” Those were Rachel's last words before leaving the room.
Just then, a deep heavy breath escaped Laura's lips like someone who had been holding her breath ever since. She felt her head turn and her chest tightened like it was being painfully squeezed. How could she act like hearing all those things that had just been clearly stated to her face didn't hurt? Was this really how she wanted to live?
She was placed in a dilemma of two choices that she couldn't seem to escape from. It was either she decided to stay, endure all the pressure and hardship of feeling like a third wheel in what used to seem like a major character point of view and then Leo would probably acknowledge his feelings for Rachel, or make things right with me.
Or she would walk away with her sanity still in check. Her last string of integrity all crumpled up together and left the two of them to leave their lives, but with her out of the picture. But how was she going to leave just like that? She had tried so hard and so many times to leave Leo. To run away. To not stumble up to what she had been feeling but trying to convince herself otherwise. Yet, it all landed her with futile seeds as she had ended up owning what she felt for Leo. What she always felt and didn't know if she could unfeel it
But even if Laura didn't get anything tonight out of all Rachel's words and display. She did get a nerve wrecking truth that she couldn't ignore…
Rachel was never going to let herself or Leo be at peace if he did decide to work things out with her. She had already positioned herself as an obstacle and a nightmare.
And she most definitely didn't seem like she was ready to quit.
The next day came faster than Laura had expected. It came easy and quietly that someone could mistake it for having a quiet evening before bed the previous day. But of all people knew that wasn't through. She knew if she wanted to act, then she should do it right, and for that she's going to need to make her presence often at the mansion.
She had already informed Fina that she would not be coming into work and left half of the affairs for her to handle on her behalf. As usual, Laura had woken up early and freshened up so she could start one or two things with her life. She decided that while she had decided to take a few days away from the office, it didn't necessarily mean she would stay away from work. The urge to work at all times ran through her veins like slow poison, but she didn't mind as it was the easiest way to keep her mind afloat.
After she had dressed up, she picked up her laptop which he had taken along with her and moved to step out of the room. The moment she opened the door, her heart flew to her mouth in shock so Leo appeared in front of her with his hands in the air as if he was about to knock.
"Oh, good timing." He said, moving his hands back down to his sides.
