Chapter 129. Expecting
Chapter 129. Expecting
Rachel.
“What are you doing here, Rachel?” Leo asked as he got up from where he sat besides Laura.
“What right do you think you have to step into the place, young lady?” Archibald asked as his once smiling face had morphed into a deep frown.
Laura frowned lightly as she made her way towards where they they gathered. “Why the hostile attitude? I'm your son and grandson's girlfriend, remember?”
“Rachel, stop this right now.” Leo's voice came out loud and totally silencing the whole room. “Can you explain what exactly you're doing here?”
She scoffed. “What else would I be doing here if it wasn't to come see you.” She said as she ran her hand along his chest.
Leo suddenly grabbed hold of her wrist to stop her movement. “Rachel…”
“What? Is it because she's here?” She gestured towards Laura who had been quiet the whole time. “I told you that you were mine, didn't I? I only have you a few break to catch your breath.”
Leo not understanding what she was saying let out a deep sigh as he stroked through his hair. “Can you please speak on plain terms and stop this your back and forth you're doing.”
Rachel smiled at him as she moved past him towards the middle of where everyone was gathered around.
“It's quite easy really.” She said. “I want my man back.”
“Excuse me?” Laura suddenly said which caused Rachel to turn her attention towards her.
“You heard me, sweet Laura. You've had your fun with my man,” she emphasized on the fact that Leo belonged to her. “But now it's time he comes back to me. I think I've played fair enough.”
“What rubbish are you spewing out of your lips, girl?” Archibald spoke up. “If you don't leave now, I'd get security to…”
“You can't do anything to the mother of your grandson's unborn child, now can you?”
The room immediately turned dead silent and Leo turned around like a bomb had just been dropped on him. Laura on the other hand had her eyes widened at the words that just left Rachel's lips and every other person in the room was left completely speechless.
“What did you say just now, Rachel?” Leo asked and Rachel turned around to face him.
“You heard me, Leo.” She said as she moved her hands to rub her stomach. “Your baby is pregnant for another baby. Isn't that wonderful news?” She said with a wide smile.
Laura couldn't believe what she was hearing. She felt the words ringing in her head like a bad echo that refused to stop and everything just seemed like she was in some sort of nightmare.
Gloria—Leo’s mum got up from her seat slowly as she stared at Rachel. “Is it really true, Rachel?”
Rachel turned around immediately and made a small pout as she nodded. “Yes mum. I'm carrying your grandchild.”
Leo was left speechless at the news that had just befallen on him at that moment. He took slow steps towards Rachel who heard his footsteps and turned around, a smirk still painting her lips.
“Are you trying to tell me that a child of my blood is in there?” He asked, his hands trembling like he could believe the news.
Rachel moved closer to him and held his hands. Then she pulled it to place against her stomach, gently rubbing against it.
“Your blood is in here, Leo.”
Everything seemed like it was crashing down at that very moment for Laura that she couldn't even muster the strength to stand on her feet, scared that it'll probably fail her like her mouth had done.
“Do you have any proof of this pregnancy, Rachel?” Leo's father finally asked as he managed to find the words. “You can't just walk in here and claim to be pregnant without any proof.”
Rachel snickered. “And who said I don't have proof?” With that, she pulled open her bag and pulled out a white paper and handed it over to Leo to see.
“That is the result of a test I got done which clearly states that I'm pregnant. Two months gone actually.”
Leo opened the white letter and read through it over and over again, making sure not to let a single word go unread.
“And if that isn't enough for you, I have this as well.” She said as she pulled out a transparent sealed bag which had a pregnancy test which showed two pink lines on it placed inside. “This is the first test I did before going to the hospital and then I got that one in your hand.”
With that, she turned around to stare at Austin. “Is that proof enough dad? Or would you also like to wait till nine months to see if I'm truly pregnant or not.” Her words were ironed with deep detest.
Archibald had been quiet the whole time as he tried to process everything that had just been dropped on all of them. And it was the same situation for Laura. To say she was speechless would be a huge understatement for what was going on in that situation.
How had things turned so wrong overnight?
“Did you here that, Laura?”
Her attention moved back to Rachel who stared at her with a wide mocking smile. “It seems nemesis has caught up with you quite faster than you would have thought, huh?”
Gloria on he other hand moved towards Rachel, shock evidently displayed on her face as she tried to register the news. “Oh my, are you saying I'm going to be a grandmother soon?”
Rachel nodded with a bright smile. “Yes mum. In just 7 months from now, there would be another bundle of joy crawling around the four walls of this place.”
Gloria laughed excitedly as she placed a hand over Rachel's stomach.
“This is such a beautiful news.” She said, beaming brightly. “So my son is about to become a father?”
Rachel nodded with a smile.
“Leo come here and feel the warmth of her own blood.” Gloria said as she urged him to come over which he did.
Laura sat down there, watching the display happening right before her eyes and not knowing the right words to utter. She didn't even know if it's a wise choice to speak at that moment. She watched as Leo placed his hand against Rachel's stomach and Rachel placed a hand against his as she beamed from ear to ear.
“It's like you can almost feel it kick, isn't it?” She said and Leo broke out in a smile as they all gathered around Rachel. Everyone but Archibald.
Suddenly, Rachel turned her gaze towards Laura and passed her a mocking smile. “, would you like to feel it too, Laura? I mean— you've never been pregnant so I'm sure you don't even know what it feels like.”
Laura didn't respond as her grip on the strap of her back tightened so much that she could fell her hand getting numb.
Rachel turned her face away from Laura and towards Archibald who had not said anything. “Aren't you happy, grandfather?” She asked. “I'm about to make you a great grand father. That is most definitely something to celebrate about, don't you think?”
The older man didn't reply to her. It didn't even seem as if he was listening to whatever she was saying but just had his eyes closed and is hands placed on top on top of his walking stick. Laura felt her chest tightened immediately at the sight in front of her. The news had most definitely taken her by surprise, but most definitely not the good type of surprise. The feeling that someone else was pregnant for Leo and coupled with the fact that everyone acted as though it was all normal and as though she had not been there at all.
The moment she felt she could no longer stand it anymore, she pulled her back and got up from the chair abruptly before rushing out of the room. Leo seeing this immediately left their midst abd rushed after Laura.
“Laura wait!” He called after her as they were now outside the mansion. “Laura, please—just calm down.”
At his Words, Laura stopped dead in her tracks and turned around to face Leo who had stopped walking.
“I should calm down?” She asked, taking slow steps towards him. “Is that really the best thing to say to someone who just found out that her boyfriend's ex is carrying his child?”
