Chapter 120: Cracks in the Silence

Nicole needed someone to be close to, to be known with, and Sharon was an impeccable fit for that role.

Nicole eyed Sharon as the perfect accomplice in her escapades, a shield to protect her from the consequences of her reckless actions.

Intrigued by Sharon, her prim and proper demeanor, was the epitome of order in a world filled with chaos. She possessed a naïveté that Nicole found both endearing and exploitable.

Nicole believed that the unsuspecting girl with a pretty face could be her ticket to getting away with mischief.

Despite Sharon's attempts to maintain a safe distance, Nicole was relentless in her pursuit of friendship. She skillfully masked her true intentions, presenting herself as a friend eager to bridge the gap between their differing worlds.

She invaded Sharon's personal space, leaving notes in her locker, lingering near her during meals, and even following her to the library.

Nicole, in each transition to a new foster home, strategically selected a naive girl of similar age as her unwitting accomplice in mischievous exploits.

These unsuspecting partners became pawns, shielding Nicole from consequences as she deftly shifted blame.

A girl named Monique had been the unfortunate victim in the last foster home. Monique was easily drawn in because she had a strong desire to embrace a rebellious persona.

Things did not end well for Monique.

Now, in this unfamiliar environment, Nicole's attention is fixated on Sharon.

Despite the difficulty, Nicole remained determined to break through Sharon's defenses, sensing the potential for a new accomplice to navigate the complexities of their shared foster home.

"It's just a game, don't be such a bore," Nicole said, urging Sharon to join her at the student football match.

"No, can't do. I have work to do. Need to clear out the shed in the yard," Sharon replied.

"Everyone's going to be there, come on," Nicole insisted.

"I already said, I'm busy."

"Brandon's gon'n be there. He's the captain, and he's so hot," Nicole emphasized.

"I don't care. Doesn't he have a girlfriend, though?"

"Yeah, Molly. Ugh, Nasty Miss Popular. Can't stand her. Thinks she's better than everybody."

"Well, she is his girlfriend, so he's off-limits," Sharon stated.

"No one's off-limits. I can get Brandon if I want to," Nicole claimed.

Sharon shot her a disbelieving look. Nicole seemed worse than she initially thought.

"What?" Nicole said, with the most carefree attitude.

"Another girl's guy?" Sharon asked, still in disbelief. She had to clarify.

"Another girl's guy is still a guy. It's not a big deal," Nicole asserted.

"It should be," Sharon said.

"Anyway, we're going to the game. I'll assist you with the shed later," Nicole stated, moving away before Sharon could object. "Six p.m. Friday night. Remember that."

Molly, the said Nasty Miss Popular, of course, was the head cheerleader who felt it was divinely ordinated for her to be with Brandon, the team's captain.

She meticulously crafted an illusion of togetherness, a constant presence by his side, be it in the classroom, the cafeteria, or, occasionally, during practice.

Surprisingly, the only person oblivious to this apparent relationship was Brandon himself.

All she was waiting for was for him to profess his undying love for her. But the grand declaration of undying love remained elusive.

She believed it would come though, soon enough; firmly believing that being patient was crucial. Was he oblivious? She was, after all, attractive and the head cheerleader!

That was the confidence she had.

Her strategic plan involved solidifying their connection after the Friday night game. If Brandon didn't take the lead, she would courageously seize the initiative.

At six p.m. on Friday night, Nicole practically pulled Sharon to the game, which kicked off promptly at seven p.m.

The field buzzed with excitement as the high school cheerleading team burst in, their synchronized steps echoing confidence.

In a dazzling display of athleticism and spirit, they ignited the crowd with well practiced flips, stunts, and perfectly choreographed routines.

The Friday night game had yet to begin, but the cheerleaders had already set the stage for an electrifying atmosphere.

Following the vibrant cheerleading spectacle, the football teams, the Thunder Hawks and Ravens, high school football rivals, stormed onto the field brimming with enthusiasm and vigor, took center stage.

Their arrival injected a new surge of energy. The atmosphere crackled with excitement, setting the tone for an eagerly anticipated and spirited Friday night game.

Under the Friday night lights, both teams prepared to face off, ready for the showdown.

The referee's whistle pierced the air, marking the commencement of the gripping game that would unfold under the electric glow of the stadium lights.

Sharon initially yearned for the comfort of home instead of sitting among the loud crowd. However, as the energy of the roaring crowd enveloped her.

The collective excitement surged through her, and with each passing minute, she found herself loosening up.

As soon as the game kicked off, Brandon, a powerhouse from the Thunder Hawks swiftly maneuvered through the opposing defense, securing a spectacular touchdown.

The crowd went wild with cheers, and the whole stadium pulsating with excitement. The cheerleaders danced with enthusiasm, making the celebration even more intense.

Brandon's touchdown not only added points to the scoreboard but also filled the entire Friday night game with a thrilling and energetic vibe.

Sharon couldn't resist being swept up in the victorious atmosphere.

The contagious enthusiasm of the crowd drew her into the celebration, and she couldn't help but join the chorus of claps and cheers, momentarily forgetting her initial reluctance.

The electric ambiance of the stadium provided an unexpected escape, and Sharon found herself unexpectedly embracing the thrill of the game.

But to everyone's shock and dismay, Brandon's victory celebration was directed to where Sharon and Nicole were seated; leaving the crowd puzzled. He pointed his finger and nodded, as if the touchdown was for…Sharon? Nicole?

His gestures ought to be towards Molly, his supposed girlfriend, not those girls. Who amongst the girls anyway?

Was the touchdown meant for the sweet looking blond, or the edgy one?
