Chapter 11: Is She Really The One?

Damon’s POV:

“Are you certain…this is the place where…your wife works?”

I flinched a little after hearing Julia’s timid voice while watching her being overwhelmingly nervous for the first time. She was always strikingly confident to tackle every situation I had ordered her for, but now her expression made me curious as I intended to ask, “Why? What’s the matt—”

DING!

Before I could finish my sentence, I received my assistant Mr. Morgan’s text, urging me to hurry inside since he had already reached here before and had been waiting for my arrival inside the company building.

Thus, I didn’t intend to delay anymore and calmly asked Julia to stay behind and wait for me inside the car, though she seemed a bit hesitant while nodding to my command.

I stepped out of my black Sedan, checking myself once on the window glass to make sure my appearance was strikingly handsome. I set ahead to meet the one I had been keenly waiting for and soon reached the floor following Mr. Morgan’s instructions.

I was a little amazed to realize my heart was strangely calm as I reached the place, but my footsteps halted when I saw her at a measurable distance from me in that hall room.

Decked in a short skirt and a tight formal shirt, Melanie appeared radiantly beautiful just like in that photo, but, I found her body language a little odd! On that night while leaving the bar with me after I put that red diamond ring on her finger, I remember how she had affectionately draped her arm around me and didn’t even bother to look at any other men, except me.

But right now, in that tight short dress, she was openly flirting with a few young men who were trying to hit on her in front of other colleagues. A few female coworkers around her scowled at her gestures, and I saw Mr. Morgan who didn’t see me coming standing near her, eagerly glancing at his phone.

“Hello, it’s rare to find such handsome men like you in our office. Are you looking for someone, Mister?” To my surprise, ignoring those young boys, I saw Melanie reach closer to Morgan and suddenly draped her arm around his elbow, making Morgan jolt from shock with her touch.

“W-What are you d-doing, M-Miss!?”

He panicked and immediately tried to unleash his arm from his hold, but without showing any intention to let him go, Melanie even leaned closer to him, with a vulgar smirk curving her lips, “You’re quite handsome, and look like you belong from a reputed company. So, if you’re not here for business, then…how about spending some time with me, Mister? There’s a good cafeteria downstairs, how about buying me a coffee?”

I clenched my fist from anger when my eyes fell on the way how she had draped her hand around his elbow, but that lewd smile on her face made me distressed. I clearly remember on that night she was dressed in a short sexy dress, but the moment she found me, I didn’t see her catering her attention to anyone else.

Even though I didn’t get to see her face, she made me feel as if I was the only man she was interested in. That sense of belonging that I felt from her on that night now had completely dissipated when I saw Melanie even flirting with Mr. Morgan in that vulgar way!

Before I could intervene with my raging fury in between them, I saw Mr. Morgan forcibly withdraw his hand from her hold, scowling at her, “P-Please…move a little far from me. I have come here today for a reason, but I feel uncomfortable if you behave like this with me, Miss.”

“Come on, you’re no fun, Mister.” She sulked when Morgan pushed her away from him by drawing a line in between them. As much as I was pleased to watch him take his stand, she further continued, “Then tell me, what business do you have here, Mister?”

At that moment, my eyes fell on her empty ring finger and I frowned my brows, as I saw Morgan was also gazing at her empty hand before he asked, “Why didn’t you wear the ring today, Miss?”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

She grimaced a little after hearing his question, but Morgan grabbed out his phone and showed her the picture of that red diamond ring, before he continued his interrogation, “I am asking, why didn’t you wear this ring on your finger today, Miss? Don’t you recognize this ring?”

All of a sudden, I saw her relaxed face turned pale and angsty. Rolling her eyes mysteriously, she retreated a few steps back from him, as if she was contemplating something inside her mind.

Scratching the nape of her neck, she suddenly acted cold towards him before answering, “I don’t know what are you talking about. Sorry, but I don’t have any ring like this.”

“What?” Not only Morgan, but I was equally surprised at her denial, unable to figure out why she was lying when we had evidence of her wearing that ring!

I gritted my jaws with disappointment while watching her put on that cold act, but Morgan desperately tried to persuade her, “Miss, I think you’re mistaken. Please see the picture carefully and then—”

“You’re the one who’s mistaken in the first place. If you’re here to bluff and waste my time, then sorry, I am not interested anymore.” She flipped her hair on the other side of her shoulder while turning away from Morgan before she added, “But…you can give me your business card so that someday if you change your mind about asking me out on a date, I might be willing to meet you again…”

Damn it! Unable to stand there as a spectator anymore, I marched out of the building, clenching my fist hard as if my nails were about to dig into my skin. I could feel my heart filled with a churning agony as if I was unable to accept her acting in this vulgar way towards all the men…even with my assistant!

But I couldn’t realize one face, why would she deny recognizing that ring? Judging by the way she behaved there…I was confused to think…was she really the one I had claimed as my wife on that night?

I didn’t even realize when I had reached back to my car and when I opened the car door with a loud ‘thud’, Julia seemed very startled to watch me arrive there. But strangely enough, my heart found it soothing to be here with her instead of being near Melanie, at that very moment.

Frowning her brows, she asked me in a soft curious voice, “Sir…is everything alright? Didn’t you go…to see your wife? Why are you back so soon?”
