Chapter 17 What's Wrong with Being With Me?
"Wait, hold on!" Ethan's movements halted as he looked disdainfully at Ava, trying to figure out what trick she was up to now.
Then, he saw her eyes darting around before she said, "I... I'm hungry."
"You can wait a bit longer," Ethan replied, ready to take action, but his advance was blocked by her.
She looked up, her thick black eyebrows slightly furrowed, her eyes pitifully staring at him, like a helpless little fox. Even though he knew she was playing tricks, Ethan unexpectedly decided to indulge her.
"Are you really hungry?" he asked.
"Yeah," Ava nodded frantically, her gaze filled with pleading, melting Ethan's heart.
He hadn't expected to see this side of her. Ethan wondered, ‘How many more sides of her had yet to be revealed to me?’
The more she hid, the more interested he became. It was like being tickled by a cat. Although he wanted her now, he restrained himself.
"Alright, let's eat first. But..." he rubbed her slender waist forcefully, "don't try to play tricks on me. You know what will happen if you provoke me."
She answered, "How could I, Mr. Davis? Am I that kind of person?"
While he got up, she slipped out from under him like an eel and swiftly tidied her clothes before running downstairs.
The servants were obviously dismissed by Ethan, which suited her plans perfectly. Ava went to the kitchen and pretended to cook, confident that the man would have to leave by the time she finished.
After a while, Ethan took a deep breath and came downstairs.
Seeing the fully packed kitchen, his face darkened. He regretted agreeing so readily earlier. It was clear that the woman was just stalling for time. Nevertheless, there was still a whole night ahead, and he could wait.
Ava was skilled in the kitchen, displaying strong cooking abilities.
She deftly chopped vegetables and boiled water, bustling around as if she had forgotten about the wolf waiting beside her.
Two hours later, Ava looked at Ethan, who was still patiently waiting, and pursed her lips. She placed the last dish on the table, then untied her apron, her face tense as she stared seriously into Ethan's eyes. "Mr. Davis, I think we should talk. I..."
"You said you were hungry, so let's eat first," Ethan interrupted her, motioning for her to sit down. He then unceremoniously picked up the only bowl on the table.
Ava was stunned. She thought, ‘What does he mean?’
Ethan ate the food she had prepared without hesitation, even giving her some compliments. "Not bad. Keep up the good work next time."
Ava looked at the shameless man in front of her, unsure how to respond. She had never seen someone this shameless, except for Tyrone.
The two of them finished the meal quietly.
Ava clasped her hands together on the table, sitting up straight, and looked seriously at the man in front of her. "Mr. Davis, what exactly do you mean?"
Ethan leaned back in his chair slowly, his expression seemingly smiling yet not smiling. "Haven't I made it clear enough? I want you. I want to have you."
"Mr. Davis, I don't want to. Our relationship should have ended that day. As the distinguished leader of the underworld, you have no shortage of women. There's no need to trouble a mere woman like me," Ava said seriously.
Ethan frowned slightly, his obsidian-like eyes piercing into her soul. "What's wrong with being with me?"
"There's nothing wrong with it, but... I don't want to," she replied firmly.
"When you were in bed, you didn't seem to have any objections," Ethan retorted.
Ava's breath hitched, and she turned her face away, feeling a mixture of anger and embarrassment, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Mr. Davis, emotions cannot be forced. Besides, what we had before could at most be called... friends with benefits."
The temperature around them dropped suddenly to freezing point, and the man's handsome features became cold and hard. His eyes narrowed displeasedly. "Say that again?"
Ava couldn't help but feel a sense of fear, but she still raised her chin defiantly. "Do you think, Mr. Davis, that we were dating when we were together?"
Ethan said, "It's not too late to start now."
