Howard's face turned grim after listening, as if a storm was brewing in his eyes.

After a while, he sighed deeply.

"Kathie, don't handle these kinds of things in the future. Leave them to me, I'll take care of it."

I nodded, not arguing, because with Howard's status, no one in Emerald City would dare to touch him.

But as Howard's wife, the probability of being targeted was much higher.

After spending some intimate time with Howard and having lunch with him, I went home first.

Back home, I turned on my computer and video-called William.

As soon as the video connected, William's melancholic aura came through the screen.

He just sat there quietly, and that was enough to catch anyone's eye.

William was different from Howard; he had an air of mystery about him, a calmness that made it clear he was no ordinary person.

"How's the assignment I gave you coming along?"

William didn't look up; his gaze remained on the book in front of him.

I licked my lips.

"Not bad, I guess."

Hearing this, William glanced at me.

"It seems you don't have much confidence in your work."

I was silent for a moment, then nodded.

"Tell me why."

I thought for a moment.

"My inspiration seems to have dried up recently. I feel like I'm trapped in a box and can't get out."

William finally looked up, his eyes behind the gold-rimmed glasses scrutinizing me, as if he could see through my soul.

"Kathie."

He called my name, and his voice was like a sweet spring, flowing into my heart, making me feel exceptionally calm.

"Maybe you should give up on revenge. It's too torturous for you."

My heart trembled violently. I had thought about giving up on revenge, but whenever I thought of my father, dying alone in the hospital, I couldn't forget.

If I couldn't make the murderer pay with their life, how could I live with myself?

"You've tied yourself up. Unless you're willing to break free."

William's voice was emotionless, but I could still sense his helplessness.

"I know you're very stubborn, but I hope you can think it through and not hurt yourself."

After hanging up the video call, I lay on the bed, repeatedly thinking about William's words.

If, if I gave up on revenge...

As soon as the thought appeared, I dismissed it.

No, how could I allow the person who hurt my father to go unpunished?

If that happened, how could my father rest in peace?

A fire burned within me, scorching the last bit of my conscience.

The situation between Alicia and me had long been one of life and death!

Just as I was contemplating my next move, my phone suddenly rang.

As soon as I answered, Howard's anxious voice came through.

"Kathie, Liz is missing!"

Liz!

I sat up instantly, Liz's innocent face flashing in my mind, and my heart clenched.

"What happened? How could Liz go missing? Doesn't the Smith family have a nanny?"

Howard couldn't explain clearly.

"I don't know the details yet. Jessica and the others have already called the police. I'm heading to The Smith Villa now."

"Give me the address of The Smith Villa, I'm coming too!"

For some reason, the thought of Liz's little face made it impossible for me to remain indifferent.

No matter whose child Liz was, I didn't want anything to happen to her.
