The man next to Layla spoke first.
"How could it be, Mrs. Wilson? It is our honor to have you here!"
After speaking, he stood up and pulled out a chair for me.
I just glanced at the two of them indifferently and picked up the teacup on the table.
Seeing that I had no intention of responding, Layla glanced at the man and tentatively spoke.
"Kathie, why don't you invite Mr. Wilson as well? At least let us get to know him."
I finally looked up and gave her a puzzled look.
"Layla, my husband is your CEO. I believe no one in the company doesn't know him, right? He has so many employees, and you're just an intern. Why would he need to know you?"
My words were quite blunt, and Layla's face turned red.
It was clear that she wanted to curse me, but due to my status, she had to hold back.
Seeing that Layla couldn't win my favor, the man became anxious. He quickly stood up, poured me a drink, and poured himself one as well.
"I haven't introduced myself to Mrs. Wilson yet. I am Ethan Martinez, the manager of the business department at Elegance Fashion Design Company."
People generally don't bully those with a pleasant attitude, and I knew this well. So, I picked up my glass and clinked it with his.
"I've heard that Mr. Martinez is quite talented. Over the years, you've created a lot of value for Elegance Fashion Design Company. Meeting you today, you truly are impressive!"
My smile was so forced that my face almost stiffened. Saying such things to a fat pig was truly embarrassing!
But Ethan was very pleased, smiling so much that his eyes disappeared, looking even more like a pig.
Looking at Ethan, I felt a bit nauseous and decided that I must go back and look at Howard more to cleanse my eyes!
Soon, dishes were brought to the table, and I glanced at them, feeling a bit shocked.
The food here wasn't cheap. Just a few dishes would cost thousands of dollars, which Layla, as an intern, couldn't afford.
I looked at Ethan, who was smiling meaningfully. What else was there to understand? This setup was clearly for Howard, but unfortunately for them, I didn't bring Howard.
It seemed Ethan had shifted his target. Even though I was just Howard's wife, he was determined to make a connection.
The meal was quite pleasant because Ethan realized that Layla couldn't adapt and didn't know how to please me, so he took over himself.
Compliments flowed easily from his mouth, and I must admit, being praised felt great!
Layla remained distracted, occasionally glancing at me with no hint of goodwill in her eyes.
After the meal, Ethan wanted to invite me to a club to sing, but I declined.
"Mr. Martinez, I had a great time today, but there's no need for singing. I have other things to attend to. Let's meet again next time."
Ethan seemed a bit disappointed. He took out his phone and smiled obsequiously.
"Mrs. Wilson, could you leave your contact information so we can meet more often in the future?"
I smiled politely but distantly.
"There's no need for that. If Mr. Martinez wants to contact me, you can go through Layla."
Layla was stunned and looked at me in disbelief.
Immediately, Ethan's gaze towards Layla changed.
Given Layla's performance today, Ethan probably hoped she could get close to Howard, but unfortunately, his wish didn't come true.
Layla's unappealing behavior at the meal likely meant Ethan would make things difficult for her afterward.
