Chapter 38
Joshua hung up the phone and got dressed, ready to leave.
His eyes fell on Ella, who was still sitting on the bed, staring at him with a look of disappointment on her face.
He patiently and honestly explained to her, "Something came up with Scarlett. I need to go over there."
Ella was still worried about him and reminded him, "Aren't you afraid that Grandpa will have someone watching you, and then really make you leave with nothing?"
Aiden had said that if Joshua got involved with Scarlett again, he would make them divorce and Joshua would leave with nothing.
She didn't want to become the heir of the Thomas family - she didn't have what it takes.
But Joshua didn't care at all and left anyway.
It seemed that compared to the Thomas family inheritance, he'd rather be with Scarlett.
Ella sat there motionless, thinking about his tenderness and passion last night. She almost fell for it again, almost forgot what she had done.
Forgot what Joshua had once said to her.
Ella took a deep breath, forcing herself not to care.
Then she got up to wash up.
After breakfast, Ella drove herself to the estate to pick up the kids.
When she arrived, Patricia was having a meal with her two children.
Ella stood at a distance watching, calling out softly, "Aurora, Dorian."
Hearing her, Aurora and Dorian quickly ran toward her.
"Mommy, you're back."
Ella crouched down to welcome them into her arms, smiling as she told them, "Mommy came to pick you up. From now on, Mommy can stay with you all the time. Are you happy?"
"Happy!"
Aurora and Dorian said in unison, competing to shower Ella's face with kisses.
Ella knew they hadn't finished eating yet, so she took their hands and led them back to the dining room.
While keeping them company as they ate, she patiently taught them, "After we go there, we'll be living with that Joshua. He and Mommy are husband and wife, so you should call him Daddy, okay?"
Aurora's eyes lit up when she heard this.
"Really? Will he let us call him Daddy?"
She remembered very clearly that Joshua wouldn't let them call him father before.
If others wouldn't allow it, naturally they couldn't keep calling him that shamelessly.
That would be really annoying.
Ella touched Aurora's chubby little face and smiled.
"He'll allow it, but Aurora and Dorian need to be good and not deliberately make Daddy unhappy."
Actually, sometimes she naively thought, how wonderful it would be if the children's father was Joshua.
That way she'd be happy, the Thomas family would be happy, and Joshua probably wouldn't go looking for Scarlett anymore.
But how could heaven favor her like that.
What Ella was praying for now was that the children absolutely couldn't be Samuel's.
Otherwise, she'd have no way to face the Thomas family, much less face Joshua.
"Okay, okay!"
Hearing Ella say that Joshua was willing, Aurora clapped her little hands happily.
She really liked Joshua. From the first moment she saw him, her heart felt warm, and she felt especially safe.
Dorian beside her didn't say anything.
He didn't understand why Ella was having them call Joshua Daddy again.
When they called him that before, Joshua was really unhappy and unwilling to accept them.
He could also tell that Joshua wasn't a man who would give Ella a happy life, so he stopped hoping for a future with Joshua.
He actually quite liked Samuel, who taught him medicine.
Too bad Ella was now having them call Joshua Daddy again.
Dorian felt helpless.
But no matter what Ella and Aurora chose, he would respect them.
After lunch, Ella and Patricia helped the children pack their luggage together, then returned to Tranquil Villa.
Karen had known for a while that Joshua and Ella had adopted a pair of twins.
Dorian had been here before, calling Ella "Mommy" when he saw her - so well-behaved and handsome.
So Karen had prepared rooms for the two children in advance and was waiting at the villa entrance early.
Ella brought the children over.
Karen immediately came forward enthusiastically to greet them, taking the two children to their rooms.
Aurora had never been here before and was very curious about the place, holding Dorian's hand and following Karen, full of joy.
Ella also led Patricia to her room and arranged her future work tasks.
In the evening, Karen and Patricia prepared a large table of delicious food together.
As dinnertime approached, Joshua still hadn't come back.
Ella took out her phone and tried calling him again.
To her surprise, she had actually been removed from his blacklist.
But what answered her was Scarlett's voice.
The other person asked, "Ella, are you looking for Joshua about something? He's staying at my place tonight and won't be going back."
Ella suddenly felt her heart clench, a wave of discomfort instantly surging through her chest.
She tried hard to maintain her dignity, saying calmly, "Alright, you stay with him. I don't have anything important here anyway."
Ella hung up the phone and casually went to call the children over for dinner.
At that moment, at the hospital.
Joshua came out of the bathroom and saw Scarlett holding his phone.
He walked over and asked, "Who called?"
Scarlett quickly handed him the phone and told the truth, "Ella called. She didn't say what it was about. Joshua, will you stay and keep me company tonight? I'm scared."
Early that morning she had been robbed, and sprained her ankle while chasing the robber.
Although the doctor said it wasn't serious, Scarlett still wanted to stay in the hospital.
She just wanted Joshua to spend more time with her.
Joshua took the phone and said in a deep voice, "I've asked Mason to come keep you company. I still need to go back - they're watching closely at home."
He turned to leave.
Scarlett wasn't willing to accept this. She got up and rushed over, hugging Joshua from behind, crying in a sweet voice.
"Joshua, you asked me to wait for you, and I can wait for you, but can you please not have children with Ella? Otherwise I'll go crazy."
If the two of them had children, she would never have another chance.
She had been an orphan since childhood.
If the Lewis family hadn't taken pity on her and adopted her, she didn't know what kind of terrible life she'd be living.
But ever since the Lewis family's real daughter went missing, her adoptive parents stopped being nice to her.
Mason only treated her well out of consideration for their years together.
So she had to find new security.
Joshua was her best security.
Joshua's face showed no expression. He pulled away Scarlett's hands and turned to look at her.
"Don't wait for me. If you meet a man you like, you can date and get married."
There was no way he could divorce now.
How could he waste Scarlett's happiness for nothing?
"Why?"
Scarlett suddenly panicked, looking at Joshua with devoted eyes. "Why don't I need to wait anymore? Do you want to keep your marriage with Ella going forever?"
Joshua didn't deny it.
He turned and left with these words. "At least I can't make you any promises right now. If you meet someone suitable, you should really think about it!"
He left without looking back.
Scarlett stood there frozen, finding it hard to believe that even though she had become so excellent now, she still couldn't get the Thomas family's approval.
And couldn't get Joshua's heart either.
It was all Ella's fault.
She had already left back then, so why did she come back?
And when she came back, she went straight to get a marriage certificate with Joshua.
If there was no Ella, the position of Joshua's wife would be hers.
Hatred spread in Scarlett's eyes. She took out her phone and sent someone to deal with Ella.
Without Ella, Joshua would definitely choose her.
