Chapter 129
Watching Scarlett leave so resolutely, not even bothering to keep up the act in front of him, Mason stood there frozen, a desolate smile appearing on his handsome face.
So what was he holding on to?
A woman like Scarlett could only share wealth and glory, not hardship with him.
After all these years together, she just left without a second thought, cold as if she were fleeing from some terrible disaster.
He didn't try to make her stay, just let Scarlett disappear from his sight.
Mason didn't actually stay out. He returned to the Lewis Villa that same night.
After dinner, Ella deliberately approached him and asked, "How are things with you and Scarlett? You came back and just left her out there alone?"
She had thought Mason would stay out with Scarlett for a while.
She didn't expect him to come back so soon, unable to handle the hardship.
Mason didn't hide anything and told Ella the truth, "She didn't want to suffer with me, so she went to find a job on her own."
Not wanting to suffer with him was one thing.
The main issue was that Scarlett didn't have him in her heart at all—she only wanted to marry Joshua.
Mason felt he shouldn't care about her anymore.
Let's see how long she can keep this up.
When Ella heard this, she pretended to feel sorry, "Oh really? Then won't she have a hard time? Should I ask Mom and Dad on your behalf to let Scarlett come back?"
Mason was still angry and waved his hand in refusal, "No need. I just want to see what kind of life she can make for herself."
This time, if Scarlett didn't come begging him, he wouldn't lower himself to look for her again.
Whatever kind of life she lived out there had nothing to do with him.
Seeing that she'd achieved her goal, Ella couldn't be bothered to care anymore.
Back in her room, she used GPS tracking to find Scarlett's location.
The address she got was at a nightclub.
Ella sent Joshua a message, then got up to get ready to go out.
Dorian looked at her, his little face frowning as he asked, "Mom, it's so late, why are you getting all dressed up? Are you going out?"
Although there were always people with him at the Lewis family, he still wanted Ella by his side.
Especially this late, with Ella looking so beautiful, it seemed unsafe for her to go out.
Ella rubbed Dorian's head and said gently, "Yes, Mommy has some work to handle. Can Dorian go to sleep early by himself?"
Dorian didn't want to. He immediately stood up on the bed with a manly air and said, "Take me with you, Mom. If anyone bullies you, I can protect you."
Aurora's departure was Dorian's eternal pain. Now whenever Ella wasn't around, he felt especially insecure.
He had no interest in learning anything else either.
Ella smiled warmly and pulled Dorian into her arms, "Mommy will protect herself. You're still growing, and it's so late—you need to rest well. I'll come back as soon as I'm done, okay?"
She didn't want to leave Dorian either.
But for revenge, sometimes she had to make sacrifices.
Once she'd done everything she wanted to do, she would definitely spend more time with Dorian.
Dorian was understanding though.
Seeing that Ella insisted on going out without taking him, he could only nod in agreement.
When Ella came downstairs, she saw Mason still in the living room with his laptop, busy with something. She wanted to pretend she hadn't seen him, but Mason took the initiative to ask, "Where are you going this late?"
Ella stopped and smiled at him, "Joshua's coming to pick me up to discuss something. Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
Hearing it was Joshua, Mason asked nosily, "You and him..."
"Just friends, not that kind of relationship. I'm heading out now."
Not wanting to say more to him, Ella turned and left.
Some relationships are best left undefined.
Some people—saying less to them can avoid unnecessary trouble.
To please Ella, Joshua immediately drove over after receiving her message.
After Ella got in the car, he helped her fasten her seatbelt, looking at her tenderly, "Tell me, where do you want to go? I'm at your service."
Ella showed him the address and leaned back lazily in her seat, "These past few days back at the Lewis family, I feel like I haven't relaxed at all. I heard this place is full of young people and has everything. Take me there to relax."
Joshua glanced at the address. What young people—this was clearly a place where rich people went to have fun.
It was also a famously sleazy place in Emerald City.
He looked at Ella and advised, "How about we go somewhere else? This place isn't right for you."
Ella shook her head, "No, I want to go here. What's wrong? Is it not legitimate?"
Joshua didn't know how to explain it to her.
If he explained too much, would Ella think he knew about it because he went there often?
Joshua figured that with him there, he could protect Ella and make sure she didn't get taken advantage of.
Joshua said nothing more and obediently took her there.
When they arrived, the club's security guard recognized Joshua at a glance and let them in without stopping them, nodding in greeting.
Ella tilted her head to look at him, teasing with a smile, "Looks like you're a regular—even the security guards at the door know you."
She'd looked it up online—this kind of club wasn't a place just anyone could enter.
Those who could come were either super members or insiders.
Joshua had brought her in so easily, which showed he came here often.
Joshua didn't deny it, "In the past, when discussing business, people often arranged to meet here."
He did know about this club's situation and had seen quite a few unsavory scenes.
He just didn't know if they'd cleaned up their act.
Ella just smiled.
After entering the club, she wandered around aimlessly.
Joshua kept feeling like Ella was looking for something, checking each private room.
He was about to ask her when he saw Ella stop at the door of a private room, sneaking a peek inside.
He came over and asked, "What are you looking at?"
Ella blocked his view and answered irrelevantly, "Do you still have feelings for Scarlett?"
Joshua frowned, somewhat displeased, "Ella, what are you getting at? If I had feelings for her, I wouldn't have brought you to this kind of place so late at night."
He'd always thought the two of them were out on a date.
But what Ella was saying really hurt.
That kind of person Scarlett was—just thinking about her and Mason made him sick.
Even if he got another chance to choose, he would never choose Scarlett.
Seeing Joshua getting upset, Ella muttered, "If you don't, you don't. Why are you getting all worked up?"
She gestured for Joshua to look into the private room, "That woman inside is dancing so seductively. Do you know any of those people watching? Should we go in and enjoy the show too?"
Joshua kept feeling like Ella had an agenda.
Looking into the private room, he was shocked to discover that the woman pole dancing in extremely revealing clothes was actually Scarlett.
And in the whole room, there were seven or eight men.
That scene was simply sleazy and vulgar.
This was also the first time Joshua had seen Scarlett completely disregarding the Lewis family's reputation, dressed so scantily in this kind of place to please other men.
He felt his scalp tingle, and remembering when Scarlett used to approach him, he couldn't help but feel nauseated.
He looked away and stared at Ella, "You did this on purpose?"
Ella smiled, "I just wanted you to see a different side of her."
