Chapter 96
Joshua returned to Ella's hospital room.
He had wanted to check on how Ella was doing, but both she and the child were still unconscious.
When Zachary saw them, his eyes were full of mockery and hostility.
"Aurora is dead. Are you satisfied now? I've never seen such cold-hearted, heartless people who refuse to save someone's life."
How dare they show their faces here.
When they were needed, Ella begged desperately but couldn't get them to come. Now that someone's dead, they actually have the nerve to show up.
Are they here to see how much pain Ella is in, how desperate she is?
At this moment, Zachary really hated himself for not being more persistent back then.
If he had never given up on Ella, maybe she wouldn't have brought the kids back to the country. If they hadn't come back, how would Aurora have gotten into trouble?
But what's the use of regret now?
Aurora would never come back.
Joshua truly believed the child was Zachary's. He had felt somewhat guilty before, but now he didn't feel the child's death had anything to do with him.
Seeing that mother and son hadn't woken up, and remembering that he and Ella were already divorced.
Why should he soften his heart and care about them anymore?
Maybe Ella didn't want to see him either.
Joshua turned and left.
Samuel felt he had failed Ella and Dorian. Afraid he wouldn't be able to face them when they woke up, he left too.
When Ella woke up, tears streamed from the corners of her eyes.
She was still murmuring Aurora's name.
Zachary gripped her hand, his throat choking up, "Ella, please accept my condolences."
Hearing Zachary's voice beside her, Ella suddenly sat up, looking dazed and at a loss.
"Aurora, Aurora don't be scared, Mommy's here. Mommy promises to take you to find Daddy."
Not knowing where Aurora was, she got out of bed and searched everywhere, left and right, front and back.
She was like a crazy person, completely out of her mind.
"Ella..."
Zachary went over and held her. "Don't be like this. Aurora is gone but we still have Dorian. Dorian needs you too."
"No, Aurora won't leave me. She's only three years old, she's only been in this world for three years. She hasn't even had a good look at this world yet. How could she just leave like this?"
After searching the entire room without finding Aurora, Ella grabbed Zachary anxiously, tears streaming down her face.
"Where's my Aurora? Where did you take her? Please give Aurora back to me, okay?"
Zachary held her tightly in his arms, his eyes reddening with heartache.
"Ella, Aurora is dead. She's never coming back. If you want to cry, just cry it out. We still have Dorian to take care of. Dorian needs his mother too."
"That's impossible. My Aurora won't leave me. She's still so small. She was the most obedient and sensible. She must be waiting for me somewhere."
Struggling to push Zachary away, Ella ran toward the hospital room door.
Zachary hesitated for a moment, thinking that Dorian was still unconscious and should be fine.
He chased after her.
He caught up and grabbed Ella, saying gently, "I'll take you to see Aurora, but can you control your emotions?"
Ella nodded.
She followed Zachary to the morgue.
Seeing Aurora already lying in the ice coffin, her entire small body frozen and without any warmth.
Ella knelt down, her trembling hands gently lifting Aurora, her grief tearing at her heart.
She lowered her head and nuzzled Aurora's little face, her sore and swollen throat struggling to produce crying sounds, "Aurora, Aurora please wake up and look at Mommy."
"Mommy is sorry. Mommy knows she was wrong. She should have taken you to find Daddy earlier."
"If we had found your daddy, would you not have left?"
"Aurora, don't leave Mommy. Mommy will be so sad. Be good, wake up and go home with Mommy, okay?"
"Aurora, Aurora, Mommy is begging you, please wake up. Don't scare Mommy, Aurora."
No matter how much Ella cried and called out while holding Aurora, Aurora in her arms remained completely still.
Her body was even starting to become stiff.
Zachary's heart ached watching this. He stepped forward and embraced both mother and daughter.
"Ella, pull yourself together. Dorian is still waiting for us in the hospital room."
The dead cannot come back to life. They had to accept this cruel reality.
Thinking of Dorian alone in the hospital room, afraid he might wake up and not find them, he had to take Ella back as soon as possible.
As for Aurora, he would have someone watch over her first.
"I don't want to. Zachary, I don't want Aurora to leave me. I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have brought them back to the country."
"I'm sorry, Aurora, I'm sorry. It's all Mommy's fault for not protecting you. Please wake up and give Mommy another chance to make it up to you, okay? Aurora, Aurora..."
Holding Aurora's thin, stiff body, Ella cried in utter despair.
Her whole body trembled uncontrollably, tears falling like broken pearls.
Ella felt like her sky had collapsed, surrounded by darkness with no light to be seen.
She didn't know what meaning there was in living. Knowing that Aurora would never come back, she wanted to just die with Aurora.
Zachary could understand Ella's despair and breakdown.
After all, Aurora had been so sweet and adorable.
But she was really gone, to a place without pain and suffering.
Ella had to accept this cruel reality.
Zachary said to her gently, "Didn't you say that the accident with you and Aurora was arranged by that woman named Scarlett?"
"Pull yourself together. After we lay Aurora to rest, we'll go get revenge for Aurora."
Ella suddenly looked up, her tear-filled eyes staring intently at Zachary.
Zachary tenderly wiped away her tears, his voice gentle, "We can't let Aurora die like this. We have to make the person who killed her pay a terrible price."
Ella instantly became rational, struggling to control her emotions that had collapsed to the breaking point. She held Aurora tightly, telling her with her thoughts, "Aurora, Mommy will get revenge for you. After the people who kidnapped you are sent to prison, after Mommy finds yours and Dorian's daddy, Mommy will have him visit you, okay?"
Aurora, you wait for Mommy over there. When Mommy finishes things here, she'll come keep you company.
After nuzzling Aurora's little face for a long time, Ella rationally placed her back in the ice coffin, stood up, and told Zachary, "Go help me take care of Dorian. I want to personally take Aurora to the funeral home."
Zachary was really worried. "You wait here for me. I'll go get Dorian, and we'll go together."
Ella agreed.
After Zachary brought Dorian over, the three of them personally took Aurora to the funeral home.
Along the way, Dorian still couldn't accept his sister's death and kept crying.
After arriving at the funeral home and getting everything arranged, they waited for Aurora to be cremated.
This would take three days.
During these three days, Ella received a news notification on her phone.
The Thomas family and the Lewis family were joining in marriage, with an engagement ceremony to be held in one week.
The Thomas family and the Lewis family? Wasn't that Joshua and Scarlett?
Thinking of how Aurora's and Aiden's deaths were both connected to Scarlett, Ella looked at Aurora's small body and swore she would definitely get revenge for them.
She absolutely would not let Scarlett live too well.
