Chapter 104
Joshua stopped in his tracks, turned to look at Ella, and didn't deny it, "Yes, I slept with Scarlett, but only that one time four years ago."
He couldn't remember the details of that night clearly.
But Joshua knew for sure that he had been with Scarlett.
"Was it at the hotel on your birthday that night?"
Ella pressed on.
If so, maybe after she left that night, Scarlett took her place.
Only that would explain why Scarlett never mentioned sleeping with a stranger.
Ella couldn't bear to think that the man who forced her that night might have been Joshua.
There's no way something that ridiculous could have happened.
Joshua had no idea why Ella was suddenly bringing up what happened four years ago.
He felt there was no need to lie, so he nodded, "That's right."
He was curious how Ella knew about what happened between him and Scarlett on his birthday four years ago.
What was Ella trying to ask anyway?
Why was she acting so strange today?
Getting a clear answer, Ella had a pretty good idea now.
She got up and went upstairs to the bathroom to find some of Joshua's hair with follicles.
Even though she still wasn't sure if Joshua was the children's father.
She felt inexplicably panicked.
During those three years abroad, Ella spent every day hating the man who forced her that night.
If Aurora and Dorian hadn't been so adorable and well-behaved, she wouldn't have gradually forgotten about that night.
Thinking about Aurora's death and Joshua's coldness.
If Joshua really was their father, she would never forgive him for the rest of her life.
Watching Ella leave.
Joshua was completely puzzled.
He couldn't figure out what Ella was thinking anymore.
Why was she asking about what happened four years ago out of the blue?
Why did she care whether he and Scarlett had slept together?
She had a child with someone else, yet she cared about him sleeping with someone else?
Joshua decided not to dwell on it, since he and Ella were already divorced.
The only reason he was staying by Ella's side now was out of sympathy for losing Aurora, worried she might do something drastic, so he stayed to take care of her.
Still worried about Ella, he followed her upstairs.
Ella couldn't find any hair in the bathroom.
So she had to take some directly from Joshua's head.
Just as she walked out of the bathroom and ran into Joshua who had followed her, she didn't avoid him but instead moved closer, "Joshua, can you stay with me tonight?"
Joshua was well aware that he was already engaged to Scarlett.
Even though he didn't love Scarlett.
He had to have his own principles and absolutely couldn't lose control like before and do anything with Ella again.
That would be disrespectful to Ella too.
Joshua took a step back and said in a low voice, "I can stay with you. Even though we're no longer husband and wife, for Grandpa's sake since he likes you, I'll take care of you too."
Joshua's meaning was clear: he could stay with Ella, but nothing inappropriate could happen between them.
Ella wasn't stupid, she understood.
That was perfect.
All she wanted was a few strands of his hair, she didn't want any further involvement with him.
That night, Joshua still watched over Ella as she slept.
He leaned nearby without getting on the bed.
But he got a bit drowsy, and when he fell asleep, Ella sat up and pulled out a few strands of his hair.
The movement woke Joshua.
He opened his eyes just in time to see Ella right in front of him, suddenly feeling a warm rush through his body, his Adam's apple bobbing.
Ella was still frozen in the position of pulling his hair, only her eyeballs moving, "What if I said I mistook you for Dorian, would you believe me?"
Joshua said, "Do you think I would believe that?"
Ella felt awkward and quickly pulled her hand back and lay down, "Fine if you don't believe me, let's just sleep!"
Her guilty look made it impossible for Joshua to fall back asleep in the middle of the night.
Especially when she got close, a fresh fragrance filled his nose.
Joshua thought his self-control was strong enough.
At least after he and Ella were no longer husband and wife, he definitely wouldn't crave her body.
But right now, he really wanted to make love.
He reached out to hold Ella's hand, looking into her eyes with deep affection, "When you said you loved me before, was that true?"
If it was true, he would find a way to break off the engagement with Scarlett as soon as possible and come back to her.
Ella felt disgusted inside, pulled her hand away and turned to face away from him, "Let's sleep! I'm tired."
Joshua wouldn't let it go, leaning close to her, breathing ambiguously, "Ella, if you still want to be with me, just wait for me a while. I'll resolve things with Scarlett as soon as possible."
He so badly wanted to stay with Ella.
If it hadn't been absolutely necessary before, how could he have gotten divorced?
Ella didn't even want to look at Joshua.
Hearing what he said made her feel even more disgusted.
She couldn't be bothered to respond, just closed her eyes to sleep.
Not getting an answer from Ella, though somewhat disappointed, Joshua still respected her wishes and didn't disturb her rest.
The next day.
After Joshua left for the office, Ella took the hair straight to the hospital.
By sheer coincidence, Mason, who had come to bring Scarlett breakfast, saw her.
Afraid she was there to hurt Scarlett, Mason followed her for a bit, only to discover she was going to the testing center.
Not understanding what Ella was doing at the DNA testing center, Mason didn't worry about it further and turned to go to Scarlett's hospital room.
When he arrived, he still mentioned this to Scarlett, "I ran into Ella downstairs. She went to the testing center. She probably doesn't even know who her kid's father is, so she's randomly finding some guy to do a paternity test!"
Scarlett looked up, staring intently at Mason, "What did you say?"
"I said Ella is at the paternity testing center downstairs."
Scarlett's face turned pale.
Did Ella find out that Joshua was the children's father?
Thinking about how Ella had been with Joshua these past few days, maybe she suspected something and went to test the children.
She absolutely couldn't let Ella find out that Joshua was the children's father, otherwise Joshua would definitely help her investigate the kidnapping.
If the investigation led back to her, she'd be done for.
Scarlett took the breakfast Mason handed her and found an excuse to make him leave, "Mason, I'd also like some fruit. Could you go buy some for me?"
Mason didn't think much of it and agreed.
As soon as he left, Scarlett quickly called someone to bribe the doctor at the testing center.
When Ella left after submitting the samples, she ran into Mason at the entrance.
She pretended not to see him and walked around him.
But Mason stepped forward to block her, his face cold and fierce, "Ella, you hurt Scarlett like that, and you're just going about your business without a care?"
It was bad enough that Ella didn't care, but she even had Joshua stand up for her.
She really knew how to find backing.
If Ella would go apologize to Scarlett today, he could let her off easy.
If she refused, he'd make sure she wouldn't even know how she died.
Ella looked at Mason.
She didn't know why, but every time she saw him, she had a very familiar feeling.
But remembering he was Scarlett's brother, she could only put on a cold face and said irritably, "If Scarlett hadn't done that to me, I wouldn't have hurt her. If it really was my fault, the law will punish me. Please let me pass."
