Chapter 305 His First Love Has Returned?
Chapter 305 His First Love Has Returned?
It wasn't until she watched them enter another private room that Evelyn finally looked away.
Before she could process that suffocating feeling, she looked up to see another face she didn't want to see.
Henry.
He was also holding a voluptuous beauty, walking toward her.
What kind of day was this? Ex-encounter day? Specifically designed to annoy her?
Henry stopped in front of her, his eyes scanning her up and down with undisguised scrutiny.
Their eyes met.
The air was thick with awkwardness.
"Evelyn, I heard Mrs. Jackson has been arranging blind dates for you everywhere lately?"
He spoke first, his tone full of mockery.
"I told you long ago, having a child out of wedlock has ruined your reputation."
He looked at her still devastatingly beautiful face and snorted coldly.
"If you're willing to apologize to me, I might be charitable enough to consider marrying you."
Evelyn laughed.
She raised her eyes, her gaze cold. "I heard that after the Windsor family fell, your Garcia family's funding chain is about to break and you're facing bankruptcy soon?"
She smiled lightly, enunciating each word clearly.
"Are you sure you can still afford to keep me?"
Henry's expression changed instantly. "Evelyn, what nonsense are you spouting!"
He bristled like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"You're nothing but a discarded woman now. What are you pretending for?"
Evelyn's gaze grew colder. "Still better than you."
"You sell yourself daily to attract investors. What right do you have to criticize me?"
"You!"
Henry was completely enraged. He pushed away the beauty in his arms and reached out to grab Evelyn's wrist.
Evelyn reacted quickly, dodging to the side.
But Henry wouldn't give up. He directly extended both arms and grabbed her tightly from behind.
"What are you doing! Let me go!"
"Henry, get away from me!"
Evelyn struggled hard, but his arms were like iron clamps, squeezing her painfully.
Henry chuckled lowly in her ear, his breath foul.
"Back then, if you hadn't refused to sleep with me, would I have needed to find other women?"
"What are you acting so pure for now? That I'm still willing to have you is your good fortune!" He spat out the words viciously, then moved his face toward her neck, trying to kiss her.
Evelyn's stomach churned as she desperately turned her head away.
"Henry, let me go! Get lost!"
She lifted her foot and used all her strength to stomp hard on his leather shoe.
Henry groaned in pain and finally released his grip.
Evelyn immediately pulled away, glared at him fiercely, then turned and walked away quickly.
Back in the private room, she grabbed the wine glass on the table and downed it.
One glass, two glasses, three glasses.
The harsh liquid slid down her throat, finally suppressing that nauseating feeling.
When the dinner ended, Evelyn's cheeks were flushed an unnatural red, but she wasn't drunk.
She went downstairs alone, wanting to get some fresh air, but unexpectedly ran into Angela.
Angela looked at her. "Miss, have you been drinking? Should I drive you home?"
"No need, thank you!" Evelyn replied politely.
Angela added, "I see you have good connections. Do you know anyone who needs an executive secretary?"
Evelyn was stunned. "You quit? Weren't you Luke's executive secretary before?"
"Don't mention it. I offended Mr. White's first love and got fired." Angela looked innocent.
"First love?" Evelyn's heart skipped a beat.
"Oh, did you see Mr. White earlier? That woman with him was gorgeous, right? I've never seen any woman dare to walk arm-in-arm with him like that."
Evelyn's heart sank.
Angela lowered her voice mysteriously. "I'll tell you a secret. He's been pining for this first love for over three years. In his office, there's a drawer that no one's allowed to touch, filled with that woman's things."
Angela's words made Evelyn's head buzz.
First love?
A drawer?
Could that woman in the long dress be his first love?
The suffocating feeling in her chest grew heavier.
When she got home, her mood was still unbearably blocked.
She kicked off her high heels, walked barefoot across the floor, and went straight to lift Sadie from the crib into her arms, kissing her little cheek hard.
After putting Sadie down, she picked up Annie from the adjacent crib.
"Baby, do you want to see daddy?"
Annie's big grape-like eyes blinked, clearly not understanding what she meant.
Evelyn continued talking to herself, her nose tingling with emotion.
"He didn't come to see you today. Don't you miss him?"
"Right." She tugged at the corner of her mouth self-mockingly. "He has his first love to accompany. How could he possibly remember us?"
She gently put Annie down and turned to go upstairs.
Her parents' voices came from behind.
"Evelyn, you're back?" Ruby called out.
"Mm." Evelyn turned to respond, her mood low.
Ruby quickly walked over, patting her chest with a look of relief. "Thank goodness we called off the engagement with the Garcia family back then. It was truly a wise decision."
Evelyn looked at her with confusion.
"You don't know yet?" Ruby's expression showed both fear and relief. "Your father and I just got back from a cocktail party and heard shocking news. The Garcia family has gone bankrupt."
"Bankrupt?"
Evelyn had just seen Henry tonight, and he hadn't looked bankrupt at all.
"That's right, just half an hour ago!" Ruby spoke dramatically. "The Garcia family's biggest investor, UR Financial, has withdrawn funding and announced they'll never cooperate with the Garcia family again. When other small merchants saw UR abandon ship, they all fled in panic. Now the Garcia family's front door is surrounded by creditors."
Ruby's gossip fire burned bright as she suddenly added, "And that unlucky Henry, I heard he fell in the bathroom and somehow broke both hands and one leg."
This made Evelyn's eyes widen. Fell down? Broke both hands and one leg?
She found it hard to believe.
But with all his romantic debts and numerous enemies, he probably stole someone's wife and got caught and beaten by the husband.
She had no interest in these matters, turned and went upstairs to her room.
She threw herself onto the soft bed, but images of Luke with that woman kept surfacing uncontrollably in her mind.
Was she his first love?
She picked up her phone to check—no calls or messages.
Not a single call from him.
He wouldn't... really bring that woman to Sky Mirage to see the night view too, would he?
Just thinking that their special place might have a third person made her chest ache unbearably.
Evelyn suddenly sat up from the bed, eyes red, and took out a box from the deepest part of her drawer.
She opened it.
Inside was the "Hawk's mask" she had always treasured.
She stared at the mask intently, then after a few seconds, grabbed it, walked to the corner without looking back, lifted the trash can lid, and threw it in directly.
'Luke, we're done.'
She thought bitterly and buried herself under the covers.
...
The next day, Evelyn appeared at the office with heavy dark circles under her eyes.
She looked listless and lacking energy.
Amy saw her and stopped what she was doing, dramatically coming over.
"Evelyn, what's wrong with you?"
"Insomnia."
Evelyn said flatly, too lazy to even lift her eyelids.
She picked up the empty cup on her desk and walked unsteadily toward the break room.
Amy immediately followed, lowering her voice mysteriously.
"Hey, did you hear?"
"Mr. White is getting married."
Evelyn's hand froze while getting water. "What do you mean?"
"Just now, when Mr. White's assistant came to deliver the supplementary contract, didn't he?"
"He actually asked me what flowers are usually good for decorating engagement venues?"
"I understood immediately and congratulated him on his engagement."
"But guess what?"
"He said it wasn't him, it was Mr. White. Mr. White is getting married!"
Evelyn's glass slipped straight down, shattering into pieces on the smooth floor.
Scalding hot water splashed everywhere, soaking her pants and shoes.
Amy screamed.
"Evelyn, are you okay? Did you get burned?"
Evelyn couldn't say a word.
She turned and ran out, stumbling, her retreating figure panicked.
...
Happy Island.
Warm winter sun poured down, dispelling the early winter chill, filling the air with brilliance.
Today was the day Nicholas and Emma were taking their wedding photos.
A rumbling sound came from the sky as a helicopter circled overhead and landed precisely on the helipad in front of the villa.
The rotor blades stirred up wind across the lawn.
Soon, Charlie led six photographers carrying professional equipment toward them.
The scene looked like a major film crew had descended from the sky.
Nicholas walked out of the bridal boutique with Emma on his arm.
Emma wore a pure white wedding dress that outlined her graceful curves, her face made up with exquisite, radiant makeup that made her glow with beauty.
Beside her, Nicholas wore a perfectly tailored black formal suit that showed off his superior physique of broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs.
His already handsome features were now devastatingly striking, indescribably beautiful.
Standing together, the ultimate collision of black and white created stunning visual tension.
Everyone present was mesmerized.
Even the photographers, who were used to seeing celebrities and socialites, showed amazed expressions—probably their first time seeing such a perfectly matched couple.
Charlie was the first to recover. He stepped forward quickly, his eyes full of genuine admiration.
"Mrs. Harrison, you look absolutely stunning today."
He paused, then looked at Nicholas and added.
"In this entire world, only someone as handsome as Mr. Harrison could stand beside you."
"A match made in heaven!"
Emma was amused and curved her lips into a smile.
"Charlie, how much honey did you drink this morning?"
"Mrs. Harrison, I'm telling the absolute truth." Charlie smiled with complete sincerity.
Nicholas ignored his chatter, only looking down at Emma with gentle eyes.
He spoke lightly. "Let's begin."
The photography team leader immediately stepped forward and asked respectfully.
"Mr. Harrison, which location would you like to shoot first?"
Nicholas's gaze remained fixed on Emma as he curved his lips into a slight smile.
"Start with the Starlight Gondola."
He took Emma's hand and headed toward the Starlight Gondola area...
Nicholas stood on the cable car platform, waving to her. "Honey, come over here."
Emma, wearing medium-height heels, looked at the suspended wooden platform with green lake water below and wouldn't take a single step.
"Are you sure this is the Starlight Gondola and not the Death Star Observatory?"
Nicholas flashed a charming smile. "Say 'Honey, I love you.'"
"And I'll carry you across."
Emma fell silent.
