Chapter 27 Their Alice Project
Charlie's mind raced at lightning speed again.
What did that expression mean?
Could it be that nothing actually happened in there?
But Zoe's expression certainly looked like something had occurred.
Charlie suddenly understood.
From the time Nicholas went in until he came out—five minutes, tops.
In those five minutes, he had to undress, get dressed... that left maybe three minutes for the actual deed?
Charlie gasped in horror.
He instantly understood what Emma's meaningful look had conveyed!
It wasn't that there was nothing worth watching!
It was that there wasn't enough time to watch anything!
Holy hell!
No wonder she wanted a divorce!
Who could put up with that?
Nicholas... he was actually a two-pump chump?
No wonder Emma had been childless for three years! Damn, so that was where the problem was!
If this earth-shattering secret got out, Harrison Group's stock price would crash!
Charlie was terrified, his hands and feet going ice cold.
No way! Absolutely not!
For Nicholas's sex life, for the stability of the corporation, for his own job!
He immediately pulled out his phone, his fingers trembling as he dialed a number.
"Hello? It's me, Charlie!"
He lowered his voice but spoke with machine-gun urgency.
"Listen! Emergency situation! Get me your newest and best batch of... enhancement supplements! However many you have, send them all! Right now! Immediately! To headquarters! Make it fast!"
After hanging up, Charlie's body was still shaking.
He felt his career was facing an unprecedented crisis.
......
Walking out of the Harrison Group tower, Emma took a cab directly to Moore Group.
Emerald City was just a branch of Moore Group. Matthew had established headquarters in Novaria, and he hadn't set foot in Vesperia for three years.
The Global Medical Summit had always been held in Novaria before.
This time, he returned because of Emma; he was determined to take her away with him.
As soon as she stepped into the lobby, Matthew personally came to greet her.
The employees below were shocked—the boss had been back for so long but had never personally welcomed any guest before.
This beautiful woman was clearly special!
Could she be Matthew's wife?
"Emma, you came." He spoke softly, as if afraid of disturbing something precious.
His eyes still held that gentle lake-water tenderness.
"Matthew!" Emma smiled brilliantly.
Matthew led her directly to the executive office on the top floor.
Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, Emerald City's skyscrapers stretched out like pieces of a vast urban puzzle.
Matthew gestured for his secretary to pour coffee, its rich aroma filling the air.
"I've investigated yesterday's incident. It was the Laurent family behind it." Matthew's tone grew serious.
"They're relentless! They even simultaneously hacked into Moore Group's network, trying to overwhelm us from all sides!"
"Just as I suspected." Emma's brow furrowed slightly as she lifted her coffee for a sip. "Looks like they won't give up until they achieve their goal."
Before returning home, her last patient had been the Laurent family patriarch.
They never could have imagined that someone in this world could actually cure brain cancer.
An 87-year-old man who had been given countless death sentences by global brain surgery authorities had miraculously recovered within 60 days.
The Laurent family immediately wanted to collaborate with her, offering a hundred billion dollars for her treatment protocol.
Emma naturally refused. Then the Laurent family tried to trap her in a binding partnership for permanent profit.
But she remained unmoved.
Finally, the Laurent family resorted to dirty tactics, gathering various forces to attempt theft.
Under Matthew's protection, Emma had escaped crisis after crisis, but the Laurent family never gave up.
Later, a mysterious organization intervened, escorting her safely back to Vesperia.
She'd heard this organization was affiliated with the Rex, mortal enemies of the Laurent family.
The enemy of my enemy was my friend.
Later, when Nicholas had his car accident domestically, she married into the Harrison family to care for him.
As Dr. N, she had vanished from Novaria ever since!
"I've already assigned people to protect you secretly. During this period, try not to act alone."
Matthew's eyes were full of concern.
Emma set down her coffee and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the bustling city.
"This is Emerald City. They wouldn't dare do anything brazenly here." Her tone was calm but carried barely perceptible confidence. "However, they might cause trouble at the Global Summit."
"I'll prepare accordingly—we'll face whatever comes."
Just as she finished speaking, the office door was knocked on.
"Come in." Matthew's voice was deep and magnetic.
Sheryl walked in carrying a stack of files. She pushed up her glasses and said somewhat wearily,
"Mr. Moore, this business summit is absolutely insane! The slots filled up ages ago, and we still have tons of people begging for invitations! What are we supposed to do?"
She looked up and saw Emma standing by the window, her eyes immediately lighting up.
"Emma! You're finally here!"
Sheryl excitedly dropped her files and rushed over, hugging Emma tightly.
"I've been sleeping less than five hours a night! Matthew clearly said he was coming back to be your assistant, but now he's dumped all the corporate affairs on me."
She immediately launched into a string of complaints.
Emma laughed and patted her back, her tone apologetic, "Thanks for all your hard work, Sheryl."
"Tonight I'll take you somewhere delicious. You love comfort food, right? I know a great place." Emma added.
"Thanks, Emma, you're the best."
Sheryl was overjoyed, hugging her even tighter.
Matthew watched their intimate interaction, feeling an inexplicable pang of jealousy.
He cleared his throat, interrupting their reunion.
"Sheryl, step out for now. Focus on getting the conference arrangements finalized."
Only then did Sheryl realize her unprofessional behavior.
She stuck out her tongue sheepishly, quickly gathered the scattered files, made a face at Emma, and then scurried out.
"Emma, why don't you move in with me?" Matthew walked to Emma's side, speaking in a low voice.
Emma was startled, looking up to meet his deep gaze.
"I'd feel more at ease with you nearby." Matthew continued. "I don't want yesterday's incident repeated. If they use more underhanded tactics..."
He paused, then stepped forward.
He reached out, his fingertips gently brushing a strand of hair that had fallen across her shoulder—the touch was light, carrying an irresistible tenderness.
Emma's body stiffened almost imperceptibly. She turned her face away, avoiding any further contact.
"Matthew, don't worry. I can handle it. The Alice Project is about to launch."
Her eyes showed no hesitation, only determined resolve.
"Officials from both Novaria and Vesperia have contacted me. We must catch Elvin!" She spoke with absolute conviction.
"Emma, there's no turning back once this starts. Being targeted by Elvin means almost certain death. Can't those officials handle this themselves? Must the world's survival depend on you?"
Matthew now wanted to oppose this plan, because he didn't want her to face danger again.
"The serum has been successfully developed. I'm sure he'll receive word soon. To avoid harming civilians in Novaria and Vesperia, we'll follow our original plan and draw the battlefield to Luminous City!"
Five years ago, this top-secret plan, signed by Bluebird Tech and both governments, aimed to capture Elvin globally. Emma's serum was the bait to lure him!
Now that her marriage was over, she had nothing to fear!
His fingers unconsciously traced the elegant cufflink on his sleeve.
"So we return to Novaria immediately after the summit?" His voice was low. "But the plan's execution must prioritize your safety."
"Alright, I'll follow your lead. Matthew, I want to release a set of formulas at the Global Summit first."
She paused, taking a deep breath as if making some final decision.
"Releasing the formulas so soon?" Matthew was somewhat surprised, his sharp gaze focusing on her.
