Chapter 47 Ms. Rodriguez Had An Accident and Disappeared
Finally, Nicholas understood.
He understood Emma's slap, understood her "get out," understood the anguished sobs behind that locked door.
It wasn't unreasonable dramatics or making a mountain out of a molehill.
It was blood vengeance!
Three years of birth control pills.
The murder of their first child.
That servant he'd casually told Charlie to release.
So Emma's hospitalization earlier this month hadn't been for stomach problems—it was because of a miscarriage!
She had been carrying his child!
A cold, murderous rage began radiating from his body.
Emma must have worked so hard to track down the killer, only to have him set the woman free, even using the Harrison Group's legal team. How could he have been such a bastard?
Just then, the lounge door burst open, and Charlie rushed in with a file, anxiety written across his face.
He immediately sensed something was wrong, especially the terrifying aura emanating from Nicholas.
Nicholas didn't even look at him, his voice low and carrying undeniable authority.
"Bring that Julie back to me."
He paused, each word seeming to squeeze through gritted teeth.
"Alive."
Charlie's heart jolted, and he immediately bowed his head.
"Yes, Mr. Harrison."
Nicholas strode toward the exit. Right now, he only wanted to get to Emma.
He desperately needed to see her!
.....
Outside the apartment building.
Nicholas's finger pressed relentlessly on the doorbell, creating a shrill, grating sound.
No one answered.
He pulled out his phone and dialed the number saved as Emma.
Once.
Twice.
The busy tone rang like hammer blows against his heart.
No answer.
He pressed his ear against the cold door panel, holding his breath.
Inside—deathly silence.
Had she gone out?
The moment this thought occurred to him, another, more maddening possibility followed.
Where had she gone?
To find that bastard Matthew? To seek comfort there?
Uncontrollable fury exploded from his chest, burning so hot his eyes turned red.
Charlie stood nearby, watching Nicholas's face darken to a stormy black, not daring to breathe.
He carefully ventured, "Mr. Harrison, should I immediately send people to find Ms. Rodriguez?"
Nicholas whipped around, his gaze sharp as a blade. "Where's Zoe?"
Charlie startled, then quickly answered, "Ms. Perez flew to Imperial City this afternoon. She said she had an important event to attend tonight."
"Event?" Nicholas's mouth curved into a cruel, cold smile. "Contact her agency and cancel all her activities."
"Tomorrow, have her come see me."
His voice wasn't loud, but it carried undeniable authority, each word dripping with menace.
Zoe was getting too bold—she actually dared to manipulate him?
Charlie's heart clenched as he quickly bowed his head. "Yes, Mr. Harrison."
Just then, Nicholas's phone suddenly rang.
It was Tyler calling.
Nicholas answered immediately.
Tyler's urgent voice came through: "Mr. Harrison, we found Ms. Rodriguez's car on the interstate!"
"There was a serious accident—the car was completely burned... but..."
Tyler paused, his voice trembling slightly. "There's no one inside the car!"
Nicholas felt his mind go completely blank, all the blood in his body instantly freezing.
He staggered, nearly losing his footing.
The air around him seemed to thin, making it impossible to breathe.
After a long moment, he managed to force out a single sentence through clenched teeth.
"Find her!"
His voice was hoarse, carrying a fear he'd never experienced before.
After hanging up, he bolted toward the elevator like a madman.
1:30 AM.
The accident scene on the interstate highway reeked of acrid, burnt metal.
Emma's familiar sedan had been reduced to a twisted, charred skeleton of steel.
Fire crews were conducting their final cleanup.
Fortunately, after careful inspection, there was indeed no one inside the car.
Nicholas stood outside the police perimeter, his gaze fixed on that pile of twisted metal, his heart feeling like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand.
There was another group at the scene.
The man leading them looked familiar to Nicholas—Jack, one of Matthew's people.
They had arrived before him.
This meant Matthew also knew and was already taking action.
Nicholas surveyed the surroundings. This stretch of highway was pitch black, with no surveillance cameras anywhere nearby.
She'd driven her car out here, over thirty miles from Emerald City.
She must have been chasing someone!
This realization made the dread in Nicholas's heart multiply exponentially.
"Mr. Harrison." Charlie hurried over, holding out his phone. "We received surveillance footage."
On the screen, Emma's car was pursuing a black sedan, the two vehicles racing one after the other toward the highway entrance.
Almost simultaneously, Jack answered a phone call nearby.
He spoke in low tones, then quickly pocketed his phone, gathered his men, and sped away.
Nicholas's eyes suddenly turned razor-sharp.
Emma's car was destroyed, but Emma wasn't in it.
The most likely scenario was that Emma had been kidnapped by the other party!
His mind raced as he immediately demanded, "Find out! Where is Julie right now?"
"And that black sedan in the video—track where it went!"
Within minutes, Tyler's call came through again.
"Mr. Harrison, we found them! The person taken in that black sedan was Julie!"
"Their route is heading toward Majestic City!"
Murderous intent instantly blazed in Nicholas's eyes.
Julie! It was her, just as he'd suspected!
No wonder Jack had left after taking that call—he must have received the same information and gone in pursuit!
Nicholas looked up at the endless darkness flanking the highway.
He made a decisive command into the phone: "Take everyone you can and pursue Julie's trail immediately! Emma's safety is the top priority."
"Got it!" The line went dead as arrangements were immediately made.
Nicholas turned to Charlie. "You—take every available man right now and search with this location as the center, every inch within a twenty-mile radius!"
"Pay special attention to nearby villages and watch for any suspicious vehicles entering town! Don't miss a single one!"
Charlie nodded firmly. "Yes, I will find Ms. Rodriguez!"
Nicholas quickly got into his own car.
He pointed ahead, telling his driver grimly, "Exit the highway!"
His instincts told him Emma was definitely somewhere nearby!
Even if those people had kidnapped her, they couldn't have put her in such a conspicuous target vehicle, and they couldn't have gotten far in such a short time!
Nicholas was already frantic with worry.
But he forced himself to stay calm.
He had never felt such concern and fear for her before, not since the moment he'd learned she'd come into his life as a child.
His feelings had been slowly changing all along—he'd just been blind to it.
His clenched fists were white at the knuckles, veins bulging on the backs of his hands.
'Emma, you cannot be hurt!'
'You absolutely cannot!'
