Chapter 82
Silverlight City, the Wood Villa.
"Mr. Walter Wood? Mr. Noah Wood has already retired for the night."
"Mr. Walter Wood..."
"Mr. Walter Wood!"
The butler and bodyguards couldn't stop Walter at all. He punched them to the ground.
"Mr. Wood, I must thank you again for your help." In the living room, James was having tea with Noah.
Noah had bailed James out, so naturally he had to pay a visit to thank him.
James and his mother Luna had always wanted to take what originally belonged to Michael, so gaining the support of company directors and business partners was especially important.
Over the years, Michael had kept James completely suppressed. To build connections with the Wood family, James was willing to use the relationship between the Clark family and the Wood family at any cost.
"James, you're a good boy. It was Grandpa who asked you to help, which got you into trouble." Noah said with a smile. "Stay for dinner tonight before you leave."
"Yes, Grandpa." James nodded obediently.
There was commotion outside, and Walter walked in with a dark expression.
"Did you send people to my place to take Nora away?" Walter asked in a low voice.
Noah's face immediately fell. "We have guests here. What kind of attitude is this?"
Walter pushed aside the butler who tried to stop him and glanced at the guests in the house.
"The Clark family, to deal with one woman, even calculated me into their plans. How impressive." Walter loosened his tie. "Pearl disregards the law, beats people until they're disabled, and used to lead bullying campaigns. Her character and upbringing speak for themselves. The Wood family will not let such a woman in our door."
Walter pointed at James, then turned to leave.
If anything happened to Nora, he would take James's life.
James frowned, his expression ugly.
Walter actually made such a scene in front of both families' elders, all for a Nora.
"Walter, you stop right there!" Noah shouted angrily.
Walter's steps paused. He turned back to look at the butler. "Watch Grandpa. If his blood pressure goes up, give him his medication."
"Noah, look at this..." Seeing Walter's attitude, Liam's expression turned unpleasant.
"Walter is still too young, not steady enough, too impulsive." Noah said with a dark expression, glancing at James. "This Nora really is something."
James quickly nodded. "Yes, Nora is extremely good at pretending and deceiving. Both the Smith family and the Adams family have been played by her. Mr. Wood was probably temporarily fooled too."
"I heard that Nora's illegitimate child is Walter's." Liam said in a low voice.
Noah was stunned and looked up at his assistant. "There's a child?"
"Yes." The assistant lowered his head nervously. "Mr. Wood doesn't allow anyone to spread this information, so..."
"I think most likely that child isn't Walter's at all. This Nora used sweet talk to deceive him, making Walter care so much about her. She must have used some tricks." Liam said lightly, getting up to leave. "The marriage between our two families is settled. I'll just consider Walter too young."
"Mr. Wood, I'll escort Mr. Clark back first. If you need anything, just call me." James stood up, supporting Liam. "As for Pearl, I'll have to trouble Noah to look after her."
After everyone left, Noah's eyes immediately darkened. "Go investigate that child. See if Walter has been deceived."
---
"Mr. Wood, James had people take Nora away to an abandoned warehouse in the outer ring, attempting to have her harmed."
"Ms. Nora Adams escaped. According to someone jogging at night, Nora was covered in blood with a long wound on her neck. He was terrified."
"Nora borrowed a passerby's phone and made this call. I checked—it was to Michael's number."
In the car, Royce spoke quietly, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel.
These people were truly disgusting, treating a woman like this.
"Michael's number?" Walter asked in a low voice.
"Yes."
Walter leaned back in his seat, slowly closing his eyes.
Nora actually contacted Michael instead of him.
She could have called him.
"Go to Emerald City." Walter slowly opened his eyes, his gaze deep.
Nora was his. No matter who it was, don't even think about taking her from him.
He had put in so much effort, willing to wear down all of Nora's sharp edges, finally getting her to lower her head and depend on him.
Did Michael think he could compete for her at this moment? Not a chance.
---
Emerald City, Holy Shield Kindergarten.
Nora arrived at the school gate right at 5:30 PM to pick up Samuel.
"Ms. Nora Adams? Samuel got into a conflict with a classmate and injured someone. Please come in." At the school gate, a teacher was already waiting for Nora.
Nora's face instantly turned pale. She nervously followed the teacher into the school office.
"Samuel."
Samuel stood in the corner with his head down, his clothes dirty—clearly he'd been in a fight.
In another corner, Joseph, dressed head to toe in designer brands with the air of a rich young master, stood arrogantly. "Bad woman, thief, beggar."
Samuel's eyes reddened as he clenched his fists.
If Joseph hadn't pushed him too far, he wouldn't have hit anyone.
"I'm sorry, Mom." Seeing Nora arrive, Samuel cried.
He was afraid of causing trouble for Nora, afraid she would scold him.
"Is Samuel hurt?" Nora knelt in front of Samuel. Instead of asking why he hit someone, she quietly asked if he was injured.
Samuel shook his head, eyes red.
"Ms. Adams, Samuel hit Joseph. Joseph's face is swollen now, and his parents are on their way. His mother wants an explanation. You'd better give the Miller family an answer." The dean spoke sternly, clearly favoring Joseph.
"Samuel wouldn't hit someone for no reason." Nora held Samuel, looking him over. Seeing that Samuel also had an injury near his eye, she looked up at the teacher. "Both children fought and both are injured. Why should we be the ones giving an explanation? Who's going to give me an explanation?"
"Ms. Adams, Joseph's father is Mason, CEO of the Miller Group, and his mother is Veda, a daughter of the Smith Group." The teacher reminded Nora.
Who should give whom an explanation? Obviously, power decides.
"Mom, he insulted you first. He said I'm a bastard, said you're a thief." Samuel wiped his tears. He wouldn't allow anyone to speak badly of Nora.
Nora's fingers went a bit numb. Over the years, she had learned to swallow all grievances and bear humiliation.
She really couldn't afford to offend the Miller family and the Smith family. She wanted to just humbly beg for forgiveness—better to avoid trouble.
But Samuel was willing to risk everything for her. Should she make Samuel endure this humiliation?
"As teachers, have you investigated who started this?" Nora's voice was hoarse. "If Joseph hadn't provoked Samuel, Samuel wouldn't have hit him."
"So what if I provoked him? Bad woman, thief, you just know how to steal other people's dads. My mom says you're the dirtiest, disgusting." Joseph stuck his tongue out at Samuel, making faces.
"Joseph." At the office door, Veda arrived, her voice anxious. "Who dared to touch my son?"
