Chapter 79
Early the next morning.
Nora had just woken up when she heard a commotion outside the door.
Several people were talking.
"We're from Holy Shield Kindergarten. This is Jasper, our academic affairs director. We're here to check on our student. We heard one of our students has been sick and hasn't been coming to school."
"Yes, yes, Mr. Smith personally called us."
"Mr. Thomas, you can't delay the child's education. We're very sincere and will definitely take good care of Samuel."
"Samuel's IQ and entrance exam scores were both first place. It would be such a waste if a genius child like him went somewhere else."
Nora propped herself up and got out of bed, listening quietly.
It must have been Michael who called the school. Otherwise, how could the head of a prestigious school personally come to their home to ask them back?
"Our principal isn't feeling well and has been transferred. Yes, yes."
"Right, we don't know what happened with the principal. She's been transferred to another campus. I heard she made some mistakes."
Nora lowered her eyes and leaned against the wall.
It was Michael. He must have known that Pearl being able to send that video to all the parents wasn't a coincidence—the principal must have played a big role in it.
"We'll go to school normally today. I'll take Samuel to school in a bit."
Nora walked out and spoke softly.
The school officials immediately breathed a sigh of relief and greeted her warmly. "Ms. Adams, right? Mr. Smith specifically instructed us. Don't worry, we'll definitely take good care of Samuel."
Nora was startled by their enthusiasm and instinctively took a step back. "Okay."
"Samuel is so smart and adorable. We love little geniuses like him."
Nora looked at the officials who had suddenly become frighteningly enthusiastic and felt it was both ironic and realistic.
Michael had just made one phone call, and these people had completely changed their attitude.
Savannah was right—people need to have some power in their hands.
"Nora, we owe Michael now. I'm afraid..." Jasper felt worried, afraid Nora wouldn't be able to handle it in the future.
Nora shook her head. "I've thought it through. I have nothing to be afraid of anymore."
If she wanted to protect Samuel, she had to learn to change.
"Mommy, don't worry about me. I'll listen to the teacher and wait for you to pick me up." Samuel went into the kindergarten and softly comforted Nora.
Nora nodded with a smile, feeling warm inside. "Mommy will come pick you up."
"Isn't that Nora?"
Just as Samuel ran into the kindergarten, a woman in high heels said sarcastically, "I heard the Clark family is searching everywhere for you, and you have the guts to walk around Emerald City openly and even drop off your kid."
Nora pulled down her cap, not daring to stay, and tried to run.
The woman reached out to block Nora. "Nora, we were classmates. I really don't want to be too harsh, but you sent Pearl to the police station and offended the Clark family..."
Nora took a deep breath. This woman was one of Pearl's group.
She had heard the woman married early to a rich man, but the man was over ten years older and lived a wild life outside.
She was now a full-time housewife, staying home to take care of the kids.
"It's none of your business." Nora spoke in a low, hoarse voice and tried to walk away.
"It really is her!"
Several sports cars stopped at the kindergarten entrance.
Obviously, the woman had sent them a message after spotting Nora.
Nora gasped and wanted to call Michael in fear.
She didn't know who else she could contact.
"Nora, you're pretty capable, huh? Running off to Silverlight City and daring to come back to Emerald City! The Clark family and the Adams family are about to put out a hit on you." A man joked with a laugh, leaning against his car door and lighting a cigarette. "Did you guys tell Terry? Tell him to hurry and save his goddess."
Nora kept her head down, trying to leave.
People got out of the sports cars and cornered Nora by the trash can. "You still want to run?"
A woman with pink hair grabbed Nora's collar and patted her face. "Look at you now. How pathetic."
"Fake is fake. Trash that can't make it to the table."
Nora looked up with red eyes at the woman. "Your dad owes hundreds of millions of dollars outside, and your mom is having an affair. How are you any better?"
The pink-haired woman was shocked. Was Nora mocking her?
The woman looked at the others with a smile. "Did I hear that wrong?"
Nora looked at the others too. "You all dress so fancy, like you're really rich, like you're children of high society families, but you're actually rotten to the core. You people do nothing all day, just idle around. Without your families, what are you?"
These parasites were nothing compared to people like Walter and Michael.
"At your age, driving sports cars every day, either racing or drinking and chasing women. But when it comes to bullying me, you're all united." Nora choked up, her whole body trembling from losing control.
She really had held it in for too long.
She wanted to vent, and she knew what the consequences would be, but she didn't want to endure it anymore.
And she wouldn't endure it anymore!
"I know why you all enjoy bullying me so much, stepping on me. It elevates your sense of superiority. You people accomplish nothing at home and get criticized by your elders and relatives, so of course you need to find your sense of existence outside. You're nothing but trash."
Nora's breathing became difficult, and tears poured out uncontrollably.
She slowly backed away, looking at everyone warily.
Even if she got beaten, she wasn't afraid anymore.
She would use the law to protect herself.
"Wow, is this Nora? Did she get possessed?"
"So you can talk now? We thought you were mute when you didn't say anything, hahaha."
Those people were obviously angered by Nora and moved closer to her step by step.
"Impressive. Went to Silverlight City and came back tough." The pink-haired woman wanted to hit Nora. "You got a backer now?"
Nora backed away in fear but bumped into someone.
Instinctively covering her head, Nora breathed rapidly for a long time.
Seeing the group in front of her change their expressions, each one backing away with frightened eyes, Nora looked up at the person behind her.
He was really tall. Bumping into him was like hitting a wall.
It gave her an inexplicable sense of security.
Michael.
Why was he here?
"Mr. Smith? What brings you here? What a coincidence."
"Michael." Several girls in the circle tried to get close, each one tense.
These people all knew that Michael was absolutely not someone to mess with. Provoking him meant certain death.
"Did Samuel go to school?" Michael ignored the parasites and looked down to ask Nora.
Nora's eyes reddened, and she nodded with inexplicable grievance. "Yes."
"Did you have breakfast?" Michael reached up to touch the gauze on Nora's neck. "Does it still hurt?"
Nora kept her head down, as if trying to lower herself into the dust, and shook her head hard.
She wasn't afraid of pain.
"Let's go have breakfast first." Michael took the initiative to hold Nora's hand and led her away.
Just by holding her hand, just by saying a word to Nora, he was enough to intimidate everyone.
That group looked like they had seen something terrifying, each one scared pale.
That was Michael?
He was holding Nora's hand?
