Chapter 110
In the CEO's office, Nora's phone kept vibrating.
Michael was clearly unhappy. Nora fumbled to put it on silent mode.
Michael didn't force Nora to turn off her phone though. As long as Nora didn't answer, Walter would just have to keep waiting.
David had just sent a message saying Walter's car was downstairs, obviously there to pick up Nora.
"Make a hundred copies of this document." Michael found something for Nora to do.
Nora took the document and glanced at it - an employee handbook, a hundred copies? "Mr. Smith, is this for all employees?"
"Yes." Michael responded half-heartedly.
"But wouldn't it be better to send a group text in the department management chat and have them pass it down?" Nora couldn't quite understand why they needed to make a hundred copies - so much trouble.
Michael put down the document in his hand and looked up at Nora.
He didn't say anything, but Nora was already scared.
"Mr. Smith, I'll go make the copies right away."
Taking the document, Nora left the office and carefully made copies at the copy area.
In the office, Nora's phone kept vibrating, the screen showing an incoming call from Walter.
Michael got up and glanced at it, a slight smile crossing his face, then turned and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
He wouldn't mess with Nora's phone, but making Walter go crazy downstairs - that he could do.
That day in Silverlight City, when he called Nora, Walter had actually grabbed her phone and hung up on him.
Michael had always believed in returning favors.
Downstairs, Walter's face was dark, growing more and more irritated.
After calling for so long without Nora answering, Walter understood that Michael was definitely behind this.
Walter called Michael directly.
Michael didn't answer either.
Walter frowned, raising his hand to rub his temples.
From what he knew about Michael, Michael wouldn't compete with him over a woman for no reason.
Since Michael was doing this, he was actually telling Walter that he was going after Nora.
Walter knew what Michael wanted to use Nora for. Michael knew about James contacting him privately, and the Wood family had even invited Luna to participate in the Shadow City project bid.
For this Shadow City project, Michael was determined to win, but James wanted it too.
James had been to the police station and made it onto the trending topics. His reputation within the Smith Group had definitely taken a nosedive and been greatly affected. Michael had him completely under his thumb, so he needed to win this project to re-establish his authority in the Smith Group.
Michael knew the Wood family was helping James. Was he using Nora to send him a warning?
After sitting in the car in silence for a moment, Walter headed straight into the Smith Group.
He needed to let Michael know that not everything could be used and fought over.
At least, he didn't want Nora to be used again, dragged into the fight between the two Smith brothers.
"Hello, Mr. Wood. Are you here to see our Mr. Smith?"
The receptionist asked nervously.
"This way, please."
Mountain Construction Group was a strategic partner of the Smith Group, so reception naturally didn't dare turn Walter away. They could only take Walter up in the elevator.
Meanwhile, Michael walked to the copy area and looked at Nora standing by the copy machine.
"How many copies?"
"Still printing, thirty copies done so far." Nora answered quickly.
"Don't wait. David will be back soon. Come with me." Michael turned and walked toward the elevator.
"Mr. Smith, is there some business event?" Nora followed, pulling out her notebook to check. She hadn't made a mistake - there was no reception or business event tonight.
Michael said nothing and took Nora down to the underground parking garage.
Just as Michael and Nora's elevator doors closed, Walter stepped out of another elevator.
"Sorry, Mr. Wood, our Mr. Smith has already left. He just got in the elevator."
Walter looked somewhat impatient, his face dark as he turned and frantically pressed the elevator button.
Michael!
Was he deliberately messing with him?
It seemed he'd been way too polite to Michael all these years.
In the underground parking garage.
"Mr. Smith, you're driving yourself?" Nora looked around - neither the driver nor David were there.
"Can you drive?" Michael asked.
Nora shook her head nervously. "No."
Seeing Nora open the back door, Michael's face darkened. "Get in front!"
Nora hurriedly closed the door and got in the passenger seat.
"Mr. Smith, where are we going?" If they were meeting a client, Nora wanted to prepare in advance.
Michael said nothing and hit the gas, leaving.
"Mr. Smith!"
At the elevator exit, the manager who had been receiving Walter called out anxiously.
But it was still a step too late.
Michael's timing was really precise, making Walter late every single time.
Standing there with a dark expression, Walter's face looked terrible.
Michael was being a bit too nosy.
"Is your Mr. Smith very busy lately?" Walter's voice was flat, showing no emotion.
The manager beside him nodded nervously. "Mr. Wood, I'm really sorry. Mr. Smith has indeed been very busy lately."
Walter checked the time. "Since he's so busy, call James and tell him I'm interested in talking to him about the Shadow City project."
The manager froze, stammering, wanting to say something but holding back.
Clearly, Walter was unhappy.
Everyone knew about the two Smith brothers - Michael and James, from different mothers, who didn't get along.
"Mr. Wood, should I try calling Mr. Smith again?" The manager nervously pulled out his phone to call Michael.
Walter didn't stop him. He was also watching to see Michael's attitude.
If Michael was being too obvious about this...
Then he had nothing to hide either.
James was much easier to handle than Michael.
At Clea's villa.
"What's wrong with you? You got my dress dirty." Clea stepped out of the car in high heels, her long legs extending down.
She had expected Jasper, standing outside to receive her, to reach out and help her, or at least help hold her dress. But instead, Jasper just stood there all upright and proper.
"Come help me with my dress!" Clea was really annoyed with Jasper. Did he like men or something?
Her long legs - what man wouldn't instinctively take a second look? But he didn't move at all.
His eyes were clear with a hint of impatience.
As if telling Clea, hurry up and let me clock out.
"Boss, can I leave now?" Jasper stepped forward and bunched up Clea's dress hem into a ball in his hand, glancing at his watch.
He still needed to take Samuel to the hospital to see a doctor.
Clea's long legs were exposed like works of art to everyone's view. Jasper felt this wasn't quite right, so he loosened the dress hem a bit to cover Clea's thighs.
Watching Jasper's actions, Clea said with a half-smile, "This dress is a handmade luxury custom piece, worth a million dollars. It can't be crumpled."
Jasper looked down at the bunched-up dress hem in his hand and quickly let go.
He felt like Clea was trying to scam him.
But facts proved she wasn't lying - the dress really couldn't be crumpled. The place he'd grabbed showed obvious wrinkles.
Taking a deep breath, Jasper said quietly, "Did someone rip you off?"
This dress was worth a million dollars?
Was that highway robbery?
Clea looked at Jasper meaningfully, her gaze naked and direct.
"Stay with me tonight, and you won't have to pay for the dress."
