Chapter 98
Silverlight City, the Wood Villa.
"Mr. Wood, take a look at this." The assistant entered the living room and quickly pulled out the paternity test.
Noah's face darkened as he stared at the paternity test in silence for a long time. "A woman like Nora doesn't deserve to give birth to a child of the Wood family."
"Mr. Wood, how do you want to handle this?" the assistant asked nervously.
Noah frowned and remained silent for a while. "The child is innocent after all. Since he's a Wood family bloodline, he absolutely cannot stay with a woman like that."
Nora's reputation was too terrible. Noah didn't feel comfortable letting Walter stay with Nora.
"What kind of good child could a woman like that raise? She'll do anything to climb the social ladder - she has no shame at all." Noah angrily slammed his hand on the table. "Tell Walter to come back and see me!"
Nora really had some nerve. Ever since she got out of prison, even an obedient child like Walter dared to talk back to him!
This Nora was quite capable.
"What if Mr. Wood refuses to come back..." the assistant worried.
"If he won't come back, then bring the child back. We can't let a woman like that ruin a Wood family bloodline." Noah said in a deep voice.
"A woman like Nora spent twenty years deceiving the Adams family for wealth and status, so naturally she won't let go easily and just hand over the child to us. She'll probably make some outrageous demands. Pearl is still at the police station, and Nora refuses to drop the charges. The case is about to be transferred to the prosecutor's office. I'm afraid the Clark family won't let this go either."
The assistant was somewhat worried.
Noah snorted coldly. "It's nothing more than wanting money. Go ask Nora how much she wants."
Considering that Nora had given birth to a child for the Wood family, Noah wouldn't be too stingy with her, but people shouldn't be too greedy. "Tell the Clark family that I'll handle Pearl's matter. The Wood family will properly compensate Pearl for all the wrongs she's suffered. Give them one project and reduce the profit margin by 5 points. As for Nora, tell them not to make any moves for now."
In Noah's view, the smartest thing Nora did was to give birth to Walter's child no matter what.
Blood ties are hard to break, and Noah understood that naturally.
For the sake of Nora being the child's mother, Noah wouldn't let anyone touch Nora, and would even ensure she lived comfortably for the rest of her life, but Nora needed to know when to be satisfied.
"Alright." The assistant took a deep breath. Noah had clearly changed his mind because of Walter and was no longer forcing Nora to settle privately with the Clark family.
It was obvious that Noah had high expectations for this child.
The Smith Group.
"Gia, I heard Mr. Smith needs a personal assistant? Could you help arrange it privately? My qualifications aren't bad."
HR manager Gia Marie leaned back in her chair and smiled. "I really can't help you with this. David has already filled the position internally. The person is supposed to report at 9 AM today, and I'm waiting here for them."
"An internal hire? Who is this person to David? Does Mr. Smith know about this? Doesn't Mr. Smith hate it when people play favorites and use special connections?" Several female employees sat nearby, curious and gossiping.
"Why would such a small matter need to bother Mr. Smith?" Gia laughed. "I'm guessing it's David's girlfriend or something. Otherwise, why would David suddenly be so proactive and personally ask me to arrange this?"
"I thought David was like our Mr. Smith, both having high standards." A female employee complained. "Which woman is so lucky to be Mr. Smith's personal assistant?"
"You really think this is a good job? Why do you think the position of Mr. Smith's personal assistant has always been vacant? Don't you get it? Mr. Smith is particular about cleanliness and even more picky about women. Ordinary people can't even get close to Mr. Smith. Being his personal assistant probably won't be easy."
"Right, she'll probably quit after a few days. It's not like they haven't hired people before."
The women gossiped while Gia looked down at the time - 8:40.
Making her wait like this - what nerve!
"Such attitude, making the manager wait for her." Someone was already stirring up trouble.
Just as she finished speaking, Nora rushed in from outside, looking somewhat disheveled.
She had asked in advance about the route from Michael's place to here, but she wasn't very familiar with the subway and had missed her stop.
Fortunately, she wasn't late.
Looking at the time - 8:41 - Nora breathed a sigh of relief.
"Hello, I'm here to report for work." Nora handed the introduction letter David had given her to the receptionist.
In the lounge area, several women stared at Nora and began sizing her up. "She looks pretty innocent. Why does she seem familiar?"
"Yeah, I also think this woman looks familiar."
Gia studied Nora carefully for a while, then her expression darkened as she stood up in surprise.
Wasn't this Nora, the fake heiress from that sensational real and fake heiress case years ago?
Gia knew Nora because she had a good relationship with Luna.
Over the years, Luna had been privately recruiting these veteran employees, especially in HR, wanting to quietly replace important positions with her own people.
"Your name is Nora?" Gia stood up and walked over to Nora.
"Hello, manager. I'm Nora, reporting for my first day." Nora quickly bowed and handed her the introduction letter.
"Come with me." Gia looked Nora up and down, then turned around with an imposing air and led her to the office.
"Do you know what a personal assistant needs to do?" Gia asked.
"David gave me a brief introduction. Mainly responsible for Mr. Smith's daily life, schedule arrangements, meetings and social engagements, etc." Nora nodded.
Gia couldn't find anything to criticize for now, so she printed out the work procedures and gave them to Nora. "As a personal assistant, you must remember all of Mr. Smith's personal preferences, what he can't eat or touch, and all his taboos."
Nora nodded and carefully read through the materials, memorizing each item.
While Nora was reading the procedures, Gia secretly sent Luna a WhatsApp message. "The new executive assistant starting today is actually that Nora, the woman who deceived James before."
Luna quickly replied. "Michael actually let that Nora into the company!"
Clearly, Luna was furious.
"Yes, she's here, right in front of me." Gia glanced at Nora meaningfully.
"A woman like that can't stay in the company. Michael is obviously using Nora to provoke James. Before James comes back, we must get rid of her." Luna angrily replied. "I don't care what method you use, make her get lost."
Gia thought for a moment with deep meaning, then said, "Nora, there's one thing I forgot to write down. Mr. Smith loves eating peanuts. You can prepare some peanut cookies. If Mr. Smith is too tired and doesn't have time to eat, you can give them to him."
Nora looked up at Gia and nodded.
Michael was allergic to peanuts - he had told her that himself this morning.
It seemed the Smith Group wasn't so simple after all.
This Gia wasn't on Michael's team.
She and Michael now had a contractual relationship. If she wanted Michael to protect her wholeheartedly, she had to prove her value.
For example, by helping him eliminate threats.
"Manager, sorry, I'm a bit nervous on my first day. Could you say that again?" Nora secretly turned on her phone's recording function and looked at Gia earnestly.
"When Mr. Smith is busy with work, remember to prepare some peanut candy. And every morning, the first thing you do when you get to work is make Mr. Smith a cup of coffee - no milk, no sugar. Mr. Smith hates when assistants have body odor, so remember to dress yourself up nicely and wear some light, elegant perfume."
