Chapter 53
Silverlight City, Nightfall Clubhouse.
Savannah brought Nora into the clubhouse and found her a relatively easy position - working at the front desk.
Nora had a good appearance, nice skin and a great figure, making her quite eye-catching at the front desk.
"At the front desk, appearance is important, but it can also attract trouble. If any drunk customers give you a hard time, don't provoke them - just call me, got it?" Savannah was now the director of the clubhouse's sales division, so she had some ability to protect Nora.
Nora nodded. "Okay, I understand."
Savannah glanced at her phone and called over a few handsome men to greet the guests.
"Why haven't you been around lately? What would you like to drink tonight? My treat."
The chubby man smiled and put his arm around Savannah's waist. "How could I let you pay? I've got some friends coming today. Find me a few sharp ones to keep us company."
Savannah smiled knowingly and followed the man into the elevator.
Nora stood at the front desk, thinking about what HR had told her, carefully memorizing the faces of several important clients - these were wealthy people who couldn't be offended.
"Where are you from? You're so pretty - it's such a waste to have you at the front desk." Yasmin, another receptionist, asked with a smile.
Nora smiled back. "I'm from out of town."
"An outsider? Me too. I'm from Harmony City - the scenery there is beautiful." Yasmin was very cheerful. She wasn't particularly pretty, but her smile was infectious.
"Let me tell you, front desk only pays about four thousand dollars a month with no commission. You're so pretty - if you just drink with clients without doing anything else, you could make twenty to thirty thousand dollars a month." Seeing Nora's silence, Yasmin asked why she didn't work as a drinking companion.
Nora shook her head. "I'm allergic to alcohol."
Yasmin nodded knowingly. "That's too bad, but it's okay - we make less money, but it's honest work."
Nora glanced at Yasmin and asked quietly, "How long have you been here?"
"Me? I came right after graduation, almost four years now." Yasmin secretly handed Nora a piece of gum.
Nora thanked her and asked quietly, "In these four years, have you seen Walter from Mountain Construction Group?"
Yasmin's eyes widened. "Yes, yes! Did you know our clubhouse is backed by Mountain Construction Group? When Walter has friends visiting, they come here. He's our biggest client. Didn't Wilhelmina tell you during orientation?"
Nora breathed a sigh of relief and shook her head.
Because Savannah had brought her in, the HR trainer had given Savannah face and hadn't explained much.
"I just got a notice from the manager saying some important people are coming tonight. We need to wear uniforms. I'll go get the clothes in a bit."
Nora nodded.
Working at the front desk meant temporary stability. The company had dorms, and because Savannah was the sales director with her own room, Nora got to share it with her.
She calculated that if she worked the full month, she'd get over three thousand dollars on the 15th of next month. She'd keep five hundred and send the rest to Jasper.
She wondered how Samuel was doing lately. She missed him so much but didn't dare call, afraid that hearing him cry would make her unable to resist going back.
"Nori, go change. You're tall and slim, so I got you a size S. Go see if the hem is too short. Here are the shoes."
Yasmin brought Nora crystal high heels and a qipao dress - even the receptionists at this high-end clubhouse had to meet uniform appearance standards.
"Remember to put on makeup. The makeup room is over there. Feel free to use my cosmetics." Yasmin came out with makeup on, looking completely different.
Nora froze for a moment - she didn't really know how to do makeup.
After five years in prison, and even before that she never wore makeup - stage makeup was always done by makeup artists.
Taking the clothes into the makeup room, Nora changed first, looking at herself in the mirror awkwardly.
The qipao had long sleeves but was too tight, showing off her figure almost perfectly.
Nora's neck was slender - from years of ballet training since childhood.
Her face was perfectly delicate, her hair tied low behind her ears. Except for her pale lips, she was nearly perfect.
Especially those long legs.
Nora was 5.54 feet tall, not particularly tall, but with perfect proportions. Her legs were long, though the dark purple bruises that hadn't completely faded were shocking to see.
Taking a deep breath, Nora tried to pull the hem down, but her legs were too long. This style of qipao had slits up to the thigh, impossible to cover.
"Nori, ready?" Yasmin pushed the door open and was instantly stunned by Nora. "Nori, did you study dance?"
Nora didn't answer, looking uncomfortable.
"Your legs... what happened?" Seeing the injuries on Nora, Yasmin asked quietly.
Nora bit her lip and said nothing.
Yasmin pulled out a new pair of flesh-colored stockings from her bag. "Put these on."
"Thank you." Nora took them, saying thanks quietly. "I'll buy you new ones tomorrow."
"Don't be so formal. You have a great base - just put on some lipstick and come out quickly. Wilhelmina said the big shots are arriving soon, we need to greet them."
Nora nodded, quickly put on the stockings, stepped into the unfamiliar high heels, and applied the lipstick Savannah had given her.
Her complexion looked much better. Nora carefully walked out.
"You didn't do any makeup, just lipstick?" Wilhelmina, who managed the front desk under the etiquette department, looked at Nora in surprise. "This is... such a waste, having you greet guests at the door is such a waste."
Nora lowered her head, a bit embarrassed.
"Quick, stand by the door. The Aetheria Chamber of Commerce dinner is about to start. Lately it's been all big shots - everyone stay alert!"
Hearing about the chamber dinner, Nora's nerves instantly tensed, her breathing becoming difficult.
Walking unsteadily to the door, Nora's face grew even paler.
Six years ago, the dinner she attended was hosted by the chamber in Emerald City.
That banquet was a nightmare for Nora.
The fake heiress scandal was exposed, everyone mocked and slandered her. She stood at the venue like a clown for people to ridicule.
And that was exactly what Aiden wanted to see.
"Nori! Guests are coming, what's wrong?" Seeing Nora's condition, Yasmin called out quietly.
The etiquette staff were at the front, Nora following behind, distracted.
"Walter, please come in."
Wilhelmina led people forward to greet him.
"How's the clubhouse reorganization going?" Walter's assistant asked. "The business dinner is being held at the clubhouse - don't cause trouble for Walter."
"Don't worry, we've been hiring and training a lot of people lately. There won't be any problems."
Walter walked into the clubhouse with a stern face, not even glancing at the hostesses standing on either side.
The Wood family's status in Silverlight City was no less than the Smith family's in Emerald City.
The moment Nora saw Walter, she lowered her head in panic.
Actually seeing Walter, she felt at a loss.
She didn't know how to approach him.
If she asked directly now, she'd probably lose her job too.
Walter took a step forward, then suddenly stopped and stepped back, stopping in front of Nora.
Nora was scared and tried to hide by lowering her head, but Walter reached out to stop her. "Lift your head."
