Chapter 119
Gia's face turned deathly pale in an instant.
"Nora!"
Nora took a step back with her phone and smiled at Gia. "Gia, I'm so happy to be colleagues with you."
Gia's hands were trembling.
Nora had schemed against her again and again, and now she had revealed the person Gia had planted next to Michael for Luna.
With Luna's personality, there was no way she would let her off.
She could only let Nora manipulate her.
This Nora was truly terrifying.
"Our Mr. Smith treats every employee well."
As soon as Nora finished speaking, the police walked in. "Nora? We received a report that you're involved in intentional harm. Come with us."
Nora glanced at Gia, her face calm.
Watching the commotion outside the door with the police were all mid-level and senior employees of the company.
Everyone was watching.
Gia forced herself to stay calm, stepped forward, and said with a smile, "Sorry, this is all a misunderstanding. I'm the HR manager of the Smith Group. I just talked with Nora and found out it was a handover mistake at work. There's no intentional harm."
The police officer frowned. "You're the person in charge?"
Gia nodded. "Yes, this is a misunderstanding. We'll resolve it internally. Sorry to trouble you."
"Gia, what's going on?" Nolan walked over, clearly displeased.
Nora didn't say a word. She wanted to make Gia explain for her.
This way, she could truly block all of Gia's escape routes.
Making it impossible for her to back out.
"Mr. Smith, this is all a misunderstanding. After talking just now, I found out it was indeed a mistake during the handover on my end. I specifically told them to mention during training that peanuts couldn't be eaten, but they understood it as Mr. Smith loves eating peanuts, so that's how the error occurred." Gia quickly spoke up, planning to find a random scapegoat so this matter could pass.
Nolan looked at Nora meaningfully and snorted coldly. "Michael is still in the hospital. This matter must be investigated thoroughly."
"Today's incident is a misunderstanding." From the crowd, Michael's voice came through.
Nora's panicked heart instantly settled back into place.
"Mr. Smith." The police officer stepped forward to inquire about the situation.
Michael explained a few things to the police, saying he insisted on eating the candy and didn't expect to have an allergic reaction, and it had nothing to do with his assistant.
The police recorded it and left.
The company employees also quickly returned to their positions. No one dared to disturb Michael at this time.
"Michael! Are you okay?" Aria ran over crying and hugged Michael, looking completely frightened.
Michael's face darkened, and he instinctively looked at Nora.
She just stood there blankly at the doorway, not knowing to come over.
His face darkened, and Michael glared at David.
David quickly stepped forward, squeezing between Michael and Aria, spreading his hands to block Aria. "Ms. Clark, Mr. Smith isn't feeling well yet. Let him go back to his office to rest."
Aria wiped her tears and said softly, "Michael, this incident was too scary. The people around you are too careless. If it were me, I wouldn't make such mistakes. How about I become your assistant?"
Michael wasn't listening to what Aria was saying at all. His attention was entirely on Nora.
She didn't know what she was thinking, standing there with her head down, her right hand gripping her left arm tightly. Clearly she was thinking about something.
What was making her think so deeply?
"Michael, this matter must be handled seriously." Nolan wanted Michael to use this opportunity to end that ridiculous marriage with Nora.
"You're right, it must be handled seriously." Michael walked in front of Nora, his voice low. "No more peanut milk candy from now on. Write a 3,000-word self-criticism and send it to me before you leave work. You can't leave until you finish it!"
Nora snapped back to attention and looked at Michael.
Write a self-criticism?
Nolan's face darkened. Michael was clearly playing dumb on purpose to annoy him.
"I can't control you anymore. Do what you want!" Nolan pointed at Nora and then at Michael.
If he didn't take this opportunity to eliminate this hidden danger, if it really got exposed in the future, it would be a scandal for Michael.
"Mr. Smith..." Gia's voice trembled as she called out, keeping her head down, not daring to speak.
"Shouldn't you also write a self-criticism and give it to me?" Michael asked meaningfully.
Gia quickly nodded. "Yes, this is my fault."
She was so scared her legs went weak.
She didn't dare openly offend Michael.
If Michael really wanted to deal with her, she would have no way out this time.
"Why are you still standing there? Did I tell you to stand at attention? Come in and write your self-criticism." Michael looked down at Nora, a smile on his lips.
Nora quickly turned around and followed behind Michael.
"Michael." Aria stood there, her voice hoarse. Had Michael ignored her words?
"Ms. Clark, you're not feeling well. You should go home and rest properly. Shall I take you home?" David smiled and blocked Aria, wanting to send her home.
"I want to have lunch with Michael." Aria clenched her hands. She really wanted David to stop meddling, but David was Michael's distant cousin, so she didn't dare be too obvious.
She still needed to keep up appearances.
"Here's the thing—Mr. Smith just threw up, and the doctor said he can't eat anything for now. Please go home first. When Mr. Smith feels better, he'll visit you." David quickly blocked Aria, smiling until his face was stiff.
Aria's eyes reddened. "Does Michael hate me?"
"Not at all! I swear." David was someone who cherished women. Aria looked like a pure white jasmine flower, but unfortunately Michael didn't appreciate it. "Ms. Clark, you know about the Shadow City project. Mr. Smith takes it very seriously. Otherwise, he wouldn't have pulled out his IV and come back to work. He's a workaholic. When he's working, he doesn't recognize anyone."
Aria knew Michael didn't like being disturbed when working.
"Lyle is my senior. I've already contacted him. This time going to Shadow City, we'll go together. I can help him." Aria said very seriously.
David thought for a moment and decided to brush it off for now. "Okay, Ms. Clark. I'll tell Mr. Smith about your thoughtfulness."
Aria bit her lip and clenched her fingers. "How can Michael be so casual about hiring an assistant?"
David took a deep breath. This was casual?
As soon as she arrived, Nora had already knocked down the Smith Group's front gate!
The HR department was like the Smith Group's first gate. Originally this gate blocked Michael's path. David had spent several years trying to open this gate, but Nora came and directly slapped the gate twice and kicked it open.
Sure enough, you can't judge people by their appearance. What's inside is most important.
"Ms. Nora Adams passed the assessment with a perfect score." David already had a tiny bit of admiration for Nora.
Aria nodded and said nothing more.
"Ms. Clark, let me see you out." Isaac ran over and personally opened the elevator door for Aria.
"I remember Nora seems to be James's fiancée, right?" Aria asked meaningfully.
The secretary nodded. "There is that rumor."
Aria snorted and smiled coldly. It seemed she needed to visit the Adams family and have a good chat with Evelyn about Nora.
In the office.
Nora was still shaken. She had pretended so well just now, but now she was equally frightened.
She almost couldn't stand steady. Nora held onto the door frame.
Michael leaned against the desk holding his coffee cup, wanting to laugh looking at Nora. "Don't forget the 3,000-word self-criticism."
"Mr. Smith, what... what should I write?" Nora stammered.
"Did you block Walter's number?" Michael suddenly changed the subject.
Nora felt a bit guilty, nervously gripping her fingers. "No, I can't block it."
Michael put down his coffee cup with a dark expression. "Write your self-criticism properly! You can't leave until you finish it."
Nora was confused. What was she supposed to criticize herself for?
