Chapter 98

Chapter 98

Anna's face was drained of color.

The white pills she'd gotten from the hospital that afternoon sat on the coffee table beside her, gleaming coldly under the light.

Simon suddenly assigning extra people to watch her, and Michael's seemingly casual yet meaningful glance at the hospital—both had her on edge.

It had been a long time since Luke had given her any new instructions. The last time they'd been in contact, he'd told her to wait and see, and that she could leave if necessary.

At this thought, Anna's eyes darkened slightly as she bit her lip.

Where did he want her to go?

She'd prepared her passport long ago, under a fake name, and had a decent amount of money in her account—enough to live out the rest of her life comfortably somewhere abroad.

But she still wasn't willing to give up.

She'd been so close to becoming Mrs. Smith, and it was all because of that bitch Teresa!

Her hand gripped the wine glass tighter and tighter, her mind racing with thoughts, until finally she seemed to make up her mind and closed her eyes.

No, she absolutely couldn't give up this easily.

With that thought, Anna hesitated no longer.

She set down her wine glass, strode over to grab her phone from the nearby cabinet, and dialed a number.

The phone rang for a long time before someone picked up. A young, spoiled, and somewhat impatient female voice came through the receiver.

"Hello, who is this?"

"Miss Reed?"

Anna's lips curved slightly as she got straight to the point: "This is Anna. If it's convenient, I'd like to buy you a coffee. I have some interesting things about Mr. Collins and Ms. Bennett that I'd like to show you."

There was silence on the other end for a few seconds, then the tone became guarded.

"Anna? If I remember correctly, you and Simon—"

Unable to find the right words to describe her relationship with Simon, Zoey paused, then changed direction with a mocking laugh: "What do you want from me? We don't even know each other."

"Besides, small-time families like the Campbells shouldn't dream of crossing class lines, even if you've managed to hook up with Simon."

Zoey had a spoiled and arrogant personality. Over the years, plenty of people, both men and women, had tried to contact her and get close to her.

Anna's approach didn't surprise her at all, and she naturally assumed Anna just wanted to use Michael as a topic to get benefits from her.

"Miss Reed, you'll know what it's about once you hear it, won't you?"

Listening to Zoey's haughty tone, a flash of malice crossed Anna's eyes, but within seconds it transformed into a meaningful smile.

"Besides, strangers become familiar once they meet. I have some photos of Mr. Collins that I think you'll be very interested in."

Anna softened her voice, making it sound enticing.

"I've already sent you the address. One hour from now, I'll be waiting for you. Don't miss it."

On the other end, Zoey set down her coffee and narrowed her eyes slightly at Anna's words.

"You think I'll meet you just because of a few photos?"

Zoey was the only daughter of the Reed Family, the beloved granddaughter of Trevor Reed, chairman of the Reed Group, held in the palm of his hand.

There was no way she'd agree to meet just anyone.

"I've said what I needed to say. Whether you come or not is your choice."

Anna wasn't rushed or annoyed, and laughed: "I'll be there on time."

With that, without waiting for Zoey's response, she hung up.

She knew that no matter how harsh Zoey's words were, given her obsession with and possessiveness over Michael, and her hostility toward Teresa, she would definitely come.

One hour later, in a private room at an upscale club.

Zoey wore the latest haute couture, her makeup flawless, but her brow showed impatience.

She sat down elegantly on the leather sofa, glancing sideways at Anna across from her, who looked somewhat haggard but was still trying hard to maintain her composure.

"Miss Campbell, get to the point. I'm busy."

Zoey tapped the table with her fingertip, getting straight to business with a light laugh.

"You and I aren't the same kind of people. Don't try those dirty tricks of yours on me."

Anna smiled slightly, not angry at all, and pulled out a thick manila envelope from her designer handbag, pushing it toward Zoey.

"Miss Reed, take a look at this first, then decide."

At this, Zoey glanced at her suspiciously.

Half-believing, she opened the envelope and pulled out the photos inside.

With just one look, her expression changed instantly.

The photos were very clear, but taken from extremely tricky angles.

The subjects in them were, without exception, two people who weren't strangers.

There was one of Michael helping Teresa into a car late at night, draping his coat over her shoulders, another of the two standing very close together in the office discussing work, and even one that looked intimate.

Teresa seemed to be resting against Michael's shoulder, the background dim, but their silhouettes clearly visible.

"What are these?"

Zoey's eyes widened, her voice trembling with anger and disbelief.

Her fingers gripped the edges of the photos so tightly she nearly crushed them.

"As you can see."

Anna sipped her coffee leisurely, enjoying the changes in Zoey's expression, a twisted satisfaction rising in her heart.

"The Mr. Collins you've been pining for has long been completely enchanted by Teresa. You think she's a good person? A woman who can drive away her husband and then immediately hook up with a business partner—what kind of good woman is that?"

Anna sighed, looking sorrowful: "She's just a homewrecker who's good at using men to climb up. Taking Simon wasn't enough, now she won't even let go of Mr. Collins."

"Miss Reed, if you don't act now, I'm afraid the position of Mrs. Collins won't be yours."

"Shut up!"

That last sentence completely hit Zoey's sore spot. She slammed the photos on the table, her chest heaving violently, her eyes reddening with jealousy and hatred.

She'd liked Michael since childhood, but Michael had never been interested in her.

Zoey had consoled herself countless times, thinking it was just Michael's personality, and that as long as she didn't give up, eventually she'd win him over.

But now, these photos in front of her were telling her bluntly that Michael wasn't incapable of being good to women—it was just that the woman he was good to wasn't Zoey!

It was Teresa.

Zoey was so angry her head felt like it would explode. She raised her hand to press her temples, her chest heaving violently. After several seconds, she calmed down a bit.

She looked up, glaring at Anna.

"Why are you showing me these? To drive a wedge between me and Michael?"

Zoey hated Teresa, and Anna was also enemies with Teresa.

She knew she could team up with Anna, but her instinct told her that Anna wasn't a good person either.
