MOVING CORPSE

MOVING CORPSE
Damien's pov

“Is everyone in order?” I asked two of the men in front of me.

I walked to the weapon room and took out some loaded guns. I walked back out and handed them one each, though I knew they already had weapons, an extra might save a life.

We headed out and arrived at the hall; we learned Gid’s men had retreated.

They shouldn't have. We'll end them here. I walked closer to the men.

“I need five men. Just five,” I said, walking among them as I selected the men I needed, four new recruits and one old hand.

“Follow me to my office,” I instructed, and they followed behind me. Anderson had done all the damage, even my office door.

Arriving at the office, I went into the weapon room and took out six walkie-talkies, two guns, and ammunition.

I placed the walkie-talkies, guns, and bullets on my table before addressing them.

“I'm sending you all on this mission to be spies; find out more about Gid, his weakness, and how we can defeat him,” I ordered.

“Yes, boss,” they answered.

“Be ready. You leave tonight. And if it seems really difficult, capture one of his men, he'll tell us all we need to know! Understood?” I asked.

“Yes, boss,” they responded.

“You may leave.” I dismissed them, watching as they left and shut the door behind them.

Tomorrow I'll pay a visit to Isari; he'll tell me what I need to know about my father's death.

I need to find more gangs to seek alignment, else this war won't go well.

10 PM

The men were already ready.

“Ghost One,” the first said.

“Ghost Two.”

“Ghost Three.”

“Ghost Four.”

“Ghost Five,” the last said.

“Be alert!” I warned, stepping out as they followed me.

“You'll make use of bikes,” I said, reviewing it for them.

They hopped on.

I took out my own walkie-talkie as I spoke. “Remember everything I said.”

“Yes, boss,” they answered.

I watched them ride off. I prayed they wouldn't end like the previous one, though that was Anderson's doing.

I walked back to my office; just then my phone began ringing.

I picked it up, glancing at the caller ID, it was Gid. Has he found out I sent men after him again? No, it can't be; Anderson, his informant, is dead.

I answered the call without saying a word.

“I see you want to be silent for now, but I want to tell you, you shouldn't have killed Anderson. Yes, you shouldn't have done that to your trusted member. He spoke a lot about you…” Gid said.

“What do you want?” I asked, my voice firm.

He burst into laughter.

“What do I want? You don't know what I want?” he asked sarcastically, still chuckling.

“I don't. If I know it and it's something within my power, I'll definitely do it for you,” I answered.

“Of course it's within your power. Do it and I'll be gone forever,” he said.

“What's it?” I asked, anticipating his response. If it's weapons, I'll surely give them to him.

“Your life. Just die. Kill everyone in the Moretti Empire and also yourself; with that I'll leave and stop this fight,” he said.

“That's impossible! Can never happen no matter who you are! How dare you make such a pathetic offer,” I spat.

“You call that pathetic? Your life alone is pathetic. You're just a moving corpse, looking for who will end your life, and I promise you, I'll grant you that request,” he said.

Me? A moving corpse. What haven't they called me? Sina; lapdog. Anderson; emotional and naive. Now this fool calls me a moving corpse.

“You're letting your imagination toy with you. Wake up from the dream of believing you can ever be killed by me. Yes, your brother Sina almost succeeded, but I'm glad Anderson intervened. Even if I feel betrayed by him, I'm still grateful he did something great which will make me forever grateful,” I said.

Gid chuckled before speaking. “He saved your life. Imagine, you, a mafia lord, always frightened and scared at any slight move,” he mocked.

“Yes, I was. But not anymore, and that is also thanks to Anderson. I'm also glad he took the bold step of killing Sina to save me, and I'll fight you with everything I have. Be ready for the battle,” I said.

“...Anderson did what?” he asked, surprised.

“Oh, you didn't know that Anderson killed Sina? Well, now you know. And here's the interesting part: he killed him to save my life because your brother Sina intended to kill me even though I did nothing to him,” I explained.

“You're an asshole, Damien, and I won't rest till I crush you,” he threatened before ending the call.

I spoke into my walkie-talkie. “Arrived?”

“Almost.”

“Almost,” they repeated.
