Chapter-56

Within the grand room, Marcus sat on the ornate throne that had once belonged to our father. The moonlight poked through the curtainless windows, casting shadows about the room and on his face, revealing the twisted smile that played on his lips. "Alex, my dear brother," he drawled, his voice dripping with disdain. "What brings you here to my humble abode?"

I didn't bother giving him the pleasantries he sought. Instead, my voice a low growl, I snapped, "I've come for the pack."

Marcus's smile widened at my words, his eyes filling with a sadistic delight. "Oh? I've heard the rumors---about how the great Alex Landry has decided to come out of his self-imposed exile to save the day."

The air grew tense as we locked eyes. Determination burned in mine, and rising from his seat, Marcus' spat dismissively, "You're weak. Living among humans, playing in your little club, has left you less than Alpha material, brother."

In response to his words and his shift into his wolf form, a feral snarl erupted from deep within my chest as I allowed my wolf to take control as well. Though the transformation was agonizing, I stood unwavering, undeterred by the pain.

Our eyes met, two Alpha's within the confines of a room that was too small for our size. The air quickly grew thick with the promise of our imminent battle, the scent of anticipation filling the area around us.

"You've forgotten what it means to be an Alpha," Marcus continued sneeringly, anger flashing in his eyes.

"I've forgotten nothing," I hissed in response. "It's you who have forgotten. Forgotten that an Alpha is meant to protect, not rule through fear."

As my words dropped between us, silence enveloped the room, broken only by the heavy panting of two predators poised to clash. With a roar, we lunged at each other, the sound of our bodies impacting one another filling the air.

The fight between us was savage, a frenzied dance of gnashing teeth and slashing claws and as we tumbled, furniture splintered, glass shattered into a thousand shards, and our fur became matted with blood.

Soon, the metallic scent of blood saturated in the air, mingling with the musky scent of our sweat-soaked fur. Each strike and bite, fueled by an instinct to survive.

The night dragged on, and finally the tide turned in my favor. My movements became precise, every strike calculated with unwavering determination. After one fierce blow, Marcus stumbled back, his wide eyes filled with shock, his arrogance shattered. I wasn't the weakling he had thought me to be.

With a final surge of strength, I lunged forward, sinking my teeth into his throat. A guttural howl of pain and rage escaped him, but I didn't let go. The taste of his blood filled my mouth, a bittersweet reminder of my rightful place as the Alpha.

In the moment the battle reached its climax, I knew I had won. I had put an end to Marcus's cruelty.

As his body went limp, the bond between us snapped, and the power I had freely relinquished to him years earlier, rushed back, flooding me with strength.

Shaking off the last remnants of the fur that remained on my muzzle, I shifted back to my human form, feeling the ache in my muscles from the fierce struggle.

Looking around, I noted the room lay in ruins, a testament to the raw power that had just been unleashed between us. From outside the chamber room, the council members, who had anxiously waited outside, now cautiously entered the chamber, their eyes wide with shock. But as they saw me standing tall, and Marcus's lifeless body at my feet, their expressions shifted to one of relief and hope.

“We are the Landry pack,” I declared, my voice echoed through the room, filling it with the presence of an Alpha. “We will rebuild, we will heal, and we will thrive again. Their cries of affirmation filled the air, signaling the end of an era and the dawn of a new one.

As the pack gathered, their voices grew louder, a symphony of determination and renewed spirit. The scent of hope permeated the room, overpowering the lingering metallic tang of blood.

As the moonlight filtered through the broken windows, casting long shadows over the blood-soaked floor, a renewed sense of purpose washed over me. The cool breeze carried with it the scent of earth and the distant sound of howling wind. I would not rest until the pack was whole again, until the whispers of fear were replaced with the resounding howls of unity and strength.
