Chapter 49
I didn't know what to think, a few hours ago, I was just a random teenager that was working extra hard to impress her crush. Now?
I was a teenager girl that was targerted by her crush's mother. And not in the usual way, this woman whom I have never met before or whose name I don't even know, heck I didn't even know she existed till the day of the kiss.
I rubbed my head as I sensed a headache coming on. The situation was enough to drive someone insane.
I consider telling my friends what was going on. But I relented. They should know after the police has been contacted, who knows what crazy thing she could do to them? My hands were shaking, how many girls get stalked by their crush's mother? And what did she want from me? I knew I was the next of kin to Dad, but he was still alive and kicking, I haven't inherited any single thing from him yet, why can't she go after him instead? He is the one with all the money and power now.
The taxi driver pulled the car to a stop in front of my house. My hands were still shaking when I gave him his fare. When I walked to my house I remembered when I saw someone stare at me from the house, I guessed it was his mom, but now that I knew it was her, I was ten times more creeped out.
Thankfully Mom and Dad made date plans for this afternoon, they should be home by now, I wondered how they'd take the news. It will be so shocking for them.
"Carrie!!" I heard Joseph call after me. My hand hovered over the front door, I was just about to go in. I turn to see him running towards me with a scared look on his face.
JOSEPH'S POV
The elderlies at the elderlies home talked some sense into me, even if they had no idea how serious it was. They just thought my parents didn't want us to see each other. But it wasn't that easy.
When I read her article about love being such a great weapon and it could heal even the brokenness of everything, and it could win all the war it was involved in. I just knew that I had to tell her everything I knew, I had to count on love to mend us in case she decided she couldn't be with me because of my extra messed up family.
So I tell her, I tell her everything that had happened. Everything I knew, I bared the contents of my heart for her to see, even if she didn't deserve it. It was the best I could give to her at that point.
She looked like she was handling the situation just fine, but she wasn't. I know she wasn't, to someone who hasn't spent time with her, you would think she was holding up well. But I could see her brain working over time, trying to use the available details to the best of her ability to form something that actually made sense. But no matter how you look at it, it could never make sense. Never.
Her idea was to report it to the police. Frankly, even though I suggested it to Lucy, my mind was not in it. The woman was a nut case, that nut case was my mother. That nut case was the one who birthed me.
I couldn't do it. The look of hurt in her eyes was more than enough to drive me crazy. I was frustrated, worst mistake of my life, I let her get the brunt of it. I raised my voice at her, I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for that. That was why when she stormed out of the classroom I couldn't stop her, what would I say after stopping her?
But as she said, my phone was really ringing. By the time I got to it, it stopped. When I checked my logs, Lucy had called almost thirty times. She wasn't there when I turned in our article.
What made my blood turn to ice was mom's call, I missed it the five times she called me, she called before Lucy. Something was wrong, something was terribly wrong. Mom never called me.
I tried calling her back but it was switched off. I dialed Lucy immediately.
"Where are you?" Her voice sounded like she was going to cry.
"Lucy? What's.. what's wrong?" I ask equally scared.
"Something is wrong with Mom Joseph, something is terribly wrong. She was in her room, all of a sudden she starts to curse you and Dad, then she called you, when you didn't pick.. she stormed out of the house Joseph.. mom left the house for the first time... And she.. and she.." she couldn't continue because she was full on crying, hiccups were cutting her short.
"She did what Lucy?" I asked trying to be calm.
"She went to the neighbors house... To the Anderson's."
That was the last thing I heard before I disconnected, I ran out of the classroom. Carrie had said she was going home.
"No! No! No!!" I changed in my head as I ran.
This couldn't be happening. I had managed to keep her away from Carrie. She could not meet her now.
When I could not find her on school grounds, I take a taxi. Urging the driver to drive very fast. I hoped she was okay, I prayed there was a traffic jam that kept her away from her house till I met her.
I tried dialing her number, it was going straight to voicemail. I banged my fist on the head rest of the seat in front of me. The driver glared but I didn't care.
I dialed Lucy again.
"She brought them Joseph, I don't know where got a gun from, but she is putting a gun at them, she tied them up." Lucy said, now she was full on crying.
I was going to explode. We should have called the cops.
"Who and who?" I asked
"Me and Mrs Anderson."
The car pulled into our lane, I could see Carrie in front of their house, I run towards her.
"Carrie!!" I shout to get her attention but I knew that was a wrong move because my mom's attention must have been grabbed too.
She turned. I ran full speed ahead.
"My mom.. has your parents."
