I fell to my knees, exhausted. My heart longed to see Edward, and my mind couldn't comprehend anything Alex had said earlier.
"They said there was a greater purpose," I muttered. "But what use could a mere omega have to this pack?"
I gathered myself and stood up from the floor. It was clear to me that Edward was not safe in this pack, and only I could save him. I was determined to confront Zen and free Edward from this situation. Their business was with me, and there was no reason for them to harm Edward.
As I prepared to leave the room, I noticed the exquisite white silk gown, adorned with delicate embroidery, radiated beauty, and opulence. However, despite its allure, an unsettling sensation crept over me, of remembering the pack's bloody past.
After meeting Alex and Zen for the first time, all they saw me wear were the white dresses June had lovingly prepared for me. It felt strange to see the two guys paying so much attention to even the smallest things after all these years.
However, I wasn't in the mood to play the role of a princess while being held as a prisoner, so I knocked on the door from inside. A guard and a maid were waiting for me outside.
The guard unlocked the door, and I went outside. I asked the maid to take me to the hall, even though I was already familiar with the packhouse's interior and was certain they wouldn't let me roam freely. So, I decided not to waste my time trying.
"Take me to the hall room," I ordered the maid again, as she exchanged skeptical glances with the guard.
"But, you need to change first, Ma'am," the girl said, hesitating, her eyes betraying a mix of nervousness and determination.
"I doubt that's something you should be concerned about. Do as you have been asked," I answered with authority, my voice cutting through the room with a sharp edge.
The girl slightly shivered at my icy tone, her resolve wavering in the face of my commanding presence.
"Take me to the hall now, or I know where it is," I shouted again, the force in my words making both the maid and the guard tremble. The air seemed to thicken with tension as I awaited compliance, my gaze unwavering, leaving no room for disobedience.
I couldn't understand how I had gained enough power to command a beta guard, but my anger seemed to work as the guard quickly showed me the way.
The maid stopped arguing, and I followed the guard to the hallroom. The corridors brought back old memories as I walked through them. I recognized familiar faces at the assembly taking place in the massive hall.
However, their expressions were different this time, with a sinister gleam in their eyes that made me feel something ominous was coming my way. In the past few years, I had changed and was no longer the hopeless young girl I once was. I now had things and people I cherished and wanted to protect.
When I lost my parents, I couldn't change my fate, but this time, even though I was weak and my wolf was asleep, I was determined to save my mate no matter what.
And for that, I would not hesitate to make a deal with the devil. As I walked through the crowd, my facial muscles became tense.
With Edward, I felt loved, wanted, and important. He made me realize that I was not just born to fulfill others' desires. He loved me for who I was, and I finally took control of my own narrative.
Memories of my time with Edward began to play in my mind. Everyone moved out of the way as I approached their current alpha.
Finally, I locked my eyes with Zen, who was sitting confidently on the leader's throne, his expression unusually calm. I couldn't help but feel unsettled by Zen's unexpected composure.
"For whatever reason they brought me here, there won't be any negotiations without ensuring Edward's safety," I said to myself.
As I approached the alpha's throne, I was stopped by a commanding voice.
"Stop right there."
I halted and saw the oracle standing next to Zen. I hadn't noticed the oracle's presence until then. I looked around the hall, but Edward was nowhere to be found.
"Welcome back to the pack, Ella," Zen said calmly, getting my attention.
