Chapter 87

Sophia's POV.

“Didn't expect me?” He watched me with a straight face, arms crossed over his chest.

I went in for a hug and he wrapped his arms around me.

“I'm sorry for canceling at the last minute. Something came up. Please come in.” I ushered him inside the apartment.

“Does the situation have a name?” He asked as we both sat on the couch.

“It's about Stephanie. She wasn't supposed to be around but she came in looking all sad. I needed to be there for her.”

“So where's she now?”

“She wouldn't even tell me. She suspected that I was expecting you and made it a point to excuse herself.” I almost felt like crying, but Alex bundled me up in his arms, stroking my hair.

I decided to just ask him outright. “Alex, can I ask you something?”

He nodded in confusion.

“What's the deal with the Hamiltons?”

“They're assholes. Both of them.” He replied shortly.

“Well, I know Harvey is an asshole. So you're probably right to call him one but Blake? I don't know....he seems kind of....” I trailed off.

He raised a brow at me. “What? Sweet?”

“I mean,” I shrugged. “He does seem like a genuine guy.” “He's not. Don't let his looks deceive you.”

“It's not his looks. It's just how he's less of an ass compared to his brother. I mean, Steve didn't even mention him when he told me about everything earlier.”

He was quiet for some time.

“Steve told you?” He finally whispered and I nodded.

“I didn't feel like I should tell you about Harvey because it wasn't my story to tell. I'm so glad he came around to tell you.” He said as he placed his hands on both my cheeks and planted a kiss on my lips.

“So are you going to tell me what the deal with Blake is?” I asked.

“He's just as vindictive as his brother and they both blame me for the downfall of their company. I'm pretty sure they're somewhere cooking their revenge.”

“Stephanie is not safe with him,” I murmured.

I felt him nod his head just slightly.

“She needs to know,” I murmured again and he nodded.

Stephanie mentioned she'd be back by morning and I hoped to tell her everything by then. Keeping such information to myself for much longer makes me uncomfortable.

“Thank you for being here,” I said to him, looking up at his eyes.

“Of course, love. I had to be here before you feel the need to invite someone else over.” He joked.

A smile formed on my lips. There was a time when Alex's possessiveness had annoyed me to my core but now, I just found it adorable.

I shut my eyes and relished his alluring scent, rubbing my cheeks against his shoulder. I kissed it briefly and looked up to match his gaze.

“Colin and I are nowhere near what you and I are, Alex.”

He took in a sharp breath.

“What if he's still hoping to one day get together with you?”

“Then that's his problem because I love you.” I cupped his cheeks with my hands. “Either way, Colin and I are just friends and that's all we'll ever be. He knows that.”

“If he knows that, then why did he kiss you at that frat party.”

“To be fair, I kissed him back.” I smiled nervously.

His jaw clenched in anger and he shook his head. “Don't remind me. It took everything within me to not just end him right there.”

“Hey! We weren't exactly on speaking terms then. And to top it off, you were the one with a girlfriend.”

“Girlfriend? Emily?” He was confused. “I'm not talking about Emily.”

He blinked. “Do you mean Emma? She wasn't around until we met her in Florida.” I shook my head.

“You don't remember Cassandra?” I deadpanned.

He shook his head.

The girl who kissed you at the restaurant after you took me cake tasting for your birthday.” “Oh! Yes.” His eyes lit up and he chuckled. “I'd completely forgotten about her.”

I raised a brow. “You forgot her? Not just her name but the entire... girl?”

“Oh yeah. I'm getting flashbacks of you being jealous of her.”

I rolled my eyes, ignoring that. “I'm a little doubtful about us now. I move somewhere else and in a month, you may not recognize me at all.”

Chuckling, he brought his hands around me. “First, I could never forget you. And second,” his tone became serious. “Where are you going?”

“Nowhere. It was a hypothetical example.”

“Good.”

I got up from the couch and stretched my limbs. “I need to sleep now.”

“Okay, fine.” He got up and kicked his shoes away. I raised a playful brow when he started unbuttoning his shirt.

“What? You know I don't like to sleep with my clothes on.” He said while taking off his pants but leaving his boxers on. “I'm keeping those.”

“You better.” I walked towards the bedroom and crawled on top of my bed, shifting towards the wall to make space for him. He slipped in next to me and pulled the blanket on top of us.

I heard him sigh in relief as he shut his eyes.

“Long day?” I asked.

“Yes. I've been longing to see you all day.” He muttered.

Me too.

Smiling, I brought my fingers to his chest and slowly trailed it down to his abs. His eyes flew open and he caught my hand. “I thought you wanted to sleep.”

“Yeah, I do.” I shrugged.

“Then don't do that.”

“Don't do what?” I blinked innocently and tiptoed my fingers along his arm, all the way to his shoulder. “This?”

“Sophia.” He warned with a chuckle. “Alex.” I challenged back, still teasing him.

He caught both my hands together, pinning them above me, and in one swift move, climbed on top of me. I gasped when he buried his face in the crook of my neck. My hands longed to touch him but he had them above my head in a firm grip.

“I want you undressed.” He muttered against my skin.

Suddenly, I was breathless. “W–what?” I stuttered.

He cocked his head suggestively and I swallowed before giving him a nod.

He quickly undressed me, kissing every inch of my body and I came undone to his magical hands.
