Sophia's POV.
My lips softly grazed his and I felt the tingle run down my spine.
It was just like that was the opportunity he was waiting for as he quickly took over, kissing me passionately, gently lying on top of me.
Suddenly, he pulled back, staring at me, and then, it was just like I was brought back to my senses, realizing that I was still a bit mad at him and I pushed him off me, as I rushed down from the bed.
“I'm not sleeping with you. This is my mother's house and this can't happen.”
“His hand went up to his chest. “Ouch.”
“What I meant was, we can't both sleep on the bed together, not that I won't sleep with you.” I blabbered.
“I know.” He smirked.
What was I even saying? Gosh!
“I mean—never mind.”
There was no point in continuing to embarrass myself. I reached forward to grab a pillow from the bed but Alex caught my wrist in his hand. I half expected him to pull me over but he didn't. Instead, he just watched me with those intense blue eyes.
“Sophia.” He called in that deep, compelling voice of his.
“Y-yes?”
“What are you taking that pillow for?”
“To sleep on the floor.”
“And why's that?” He sat up on the bed, keeping his hold firm. “Because I can't sleep next to you.”
“Why not?”
“Because......” I trailed off.
Because I can't control myself around you dammit!
“This wouldn't be the first time you'll be sleeping next to me.” My cheeks flushed at his statement.
But It's different this time, isn't it?
At least, that was what I was trying to tell myself. I also recalled Florida. No matter how much I wanted to deny it, the way he wrapped his arms around me in his sleep truly made me feel warm and safe.
No, Sophia! You don't need him! I yanked my hand away from his grip without any struggle and made to get the pillow again. “I'm sleeping on the floor.”
“If that pillow touches the floor, then I'm joining you there.”
Giving him a challenging look, I dropped the pillow on the floor.
“Fine.” He got down from the bed but instead of lying down on the floor, he picked the pillow up, threw it on the bed and the next thing I knew, he ducked down, lifting me in his arms, and then placed me down on the bed.
My jaw dropped. “What the hell?”
“I'm so exhausted right now and I don't think I can sleep on the floor. But if you choose to be stubborn again, I'll have no choice and you'll owe me a back massage tomorrow.”
“Screw you, Alex!” I scowled.
“I know.” With a sheepish grin, he walked towards his bag which was lying on my dresser chair, and fished out a t-shirt and track pants from it.
“Now I'm gonna go change and when I come back, I expect to find you on the bed like a good girl. Okay?”
“Fuck you, Alex.” I gave him a forced smile.
“You're dropping way too many hints Sophia, don't tempt me.” He smirked and went inside the bathroom.
I groaned in frustration and buried my face in my pillow.
After a few minutes, Alex stepped out, clearly ignoring my death glare, and climbed on the bed, next to me.
I tossed over so I wasn't facing him anymore. Of course, my bed was way smaller than his or the king-sized bed in Florida, so I could practically feel his hot breath against my neck.
Only a second later, he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me back into his rock-hard chest.
I stiffened.
“This is nice.” He whispered.
I just laid there, eyes wide open because of the tingles running down my spine, so glad that he couldn't see my face.
“Alex.” I finally managed to blurt out after about a minute. “What are you doing?”
There was no reply for a few seconds and I thought he was asleep. But then, he took a long sigh and said, “This is just me expressing my thoughts.”
“What thoughts?” I bit my lip.
“How much I've missed you.” He whispered, burying his nose in my hair.
Did Alexander Hayes just admit that he missed me? I was too shocked to even blink.
I was tempted to tell him how much I've missed him too but I held my tongue.
“You might want to blink now, Sophia.”
How could he even see my face?
He suddenly brought his mouth down to my ear and whispered. “All you gotta do is tell me if I'm making you uncomfortable.”
I simply turned around to meet his captivating gaze and placed my hand over his chest, feeling his sharp intake of breath.
“No, this is fine.” I closed my eyes. “But I'm still mad at you.”
He chuckled, kissing my forehead while he pulled the cover on top of us.
I must've dozed off after that as the next thing I knew was someone calling my name.
“Sophia.”
I opened my eyes to find Alex standing beside the bed.
“What?” I mumbled angrily.
“I just went downstairs to check the fridge. There's no cake.”
Oh God! Now what was he blabbering about?
I blinked at him. “What do you need a cake for by this time?” I asked, looking at my nightstand clock. “It's 5 am, Alex.”
He rolled his eyes. “For your mum. It's her birthday.”
“What's your point?”
“Wait. You're not planning to surprise her with a cake first thing in the morning?” He deadpanned.
Oh well, I never said I was the daughter of the year though.
“Uh...I—I guess I should?”
I don't know if I was making a statement or asking a question.
“Of course you should.” He replied to me anyway.
“Okay then.” I scratched my forehead in thought. “How do I go about this? Do you know how to bake a cake?”
“Me?” He burst into laughter. “The only thing I know about food is how to eat it.”
I rolled my eyes. “I can't bake one either. What should I do?”
“Then we buy a cake.”
“It's 5 in the morning, Alex. Where could we possibly— oh wait! I know a bakery that might be open at this time but I'm not sure it still exists. It's been a long time.”
“Guess we'll find out.” He grabbed his keys and wallet from the bedside table.
