Sophia’s POV.
Shit! Shit! Shit!
This was the only thing I could mutter as I pushed Mr Hayes off of me and tried to fix my clothes and make myself presentable.
“What just happened? What in the world is wrong with me?”
The first day of my working here and already smooching with my boss? This was a new low for me and I was already feeling mighty embarrassed. The knock at the door came again, this time, louder.
I stole a furtive glance at Mr Hayes and was surprised at how composed he looked. Like he wasn't just tongue-deep in my mouth some seconds ago!
The door opened and Steve strolled in.
“Excuse me,” I said to no one in particular as I hurriedly walked towards the door but not without noticing the suspicious looks coming from Steve.
I was too embarrassed to even lift my head even though I felt a bit guilty leaving in that manner without acknowledging Steve who has been nothing but nice to me.

Alex's POV.
“Hey, man, everything okay?” Steve asked, walking towards the desk chair to sit.
If only he knew what I had been doing to Sophia minutes ago! I was completely hypnotized by her that if Steve hadn't knocked, I didn't think I'd be able to stop myself from going further.
“Yeah,” I said, running my hands through my hair. “What are you doing here?”
“Whoa!” Steve exclaimed, with hands in the air in mock surrender. “Can't a guy just check on his best friend anymore? And from the looks of it, I'd say I came at the right time.”
I gave him a murderous look.
“Out with it, man. What's going on with you and Sophie? Isn't it too early for something to be going on? Last I checked, she just started working today.”
Sophie? When did he meet her that he could already call her that? I thought. “Her name's Sophia” I corrected, somewhat harshly.
“Wow! I didn't know that such a little detail would upset you”. Steve blurted, as he stood up, walked around the table to where I stood and placed his hands on my shoulders. “Who are you and what have you done with my friend Alex?” he inquired.
I smacked his hands off and we both cracked into laughter.
For some strange reason, I didn't want to tell Steve about the moment I just had with Sophia. I wanted to protect her and I wanted that moment to be for just us.
But because I knew that Steve wouldn't relent until I answered his questions, I had to tell him something else.
“You remember the girl I told you about earlier? The one I had to take to the hospital?” I waited until Steve nodded his head before continuing “That girl is Sophia.”
“What do you mean?" he asked in disbelief. "You're not making any sense. What are the odds of her getting a job here? One of you must be stalking the other.”
“It was purely a huge coincidence man! She gets on my nerves so much I don't even know why I employed her” I retorted.
“Well, I've had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with her and I can say she's a very nice person. Maybe you're the one getting on your nerves” Steve remarked, smiling.
I felt like punching him in the gut for his glib taunt. I scoffed.
“Now I recognize that look. I know she's hot and all but she's still your employee so no going all manwhore on her” Steve implored, pointing his finger at me.
Well....too late. I muttered under my breath.
“Anyways, I'm yet to receive the speech presentation so I came here to remind you” Steve alluded.
“Oh yeah, about that. I was about to do it” I replied
“Were you? Or you were busy being tongue-deep with your new secretary? Steve said in between giggles.
“I think that's enough work for today. I'm thirsty and could use a drink right now. Wanna hang?” Steve added.
Already feeling uneasy with the conversation, I quickly obliged.
“Hell yeah” I replied, standing. I could use a drink to take off all this sexual tension and maybe a nice girl too.
I smirked at my wayward thoughts as we both stepped out of the office.

Sophia's POV.
“You wouldn't believe the day I just had” I announced to Stephanie immediately after I got to our apartment.
She immediately sprang up from the couch where she was sitting, ran over to me and dragged me over to the couch.
Trust Stephanie to always want to hear the whole gist.
“I need you to tell me everything! How was your first day?” Stephanie jested.
I narrated everything that happened that day, carefully omitting the part where I kissed my boss. I was still too ashamed to share that and I didn't want her to think less of me. At least not more than I was already thinking of myself.
“What?!” Steph shrieked “You mean your new boss is the same guy who landed you in the hospital?
I nodded, fiddling with a red-stained spot on the rug, too embarrassed at not telling her about the kiss. Although, there's nothing to tell since I've vowed that it won't happen again. I thought.
“Wow, girl! What a coincidence! Fate must be playing tricks on you.”
Well, tell me about it! “I considered resigning because of how rude he gets,” I disclosed.
“What?! Resign on a 4000 dollars monthly salary? Like hell, you will! Ever heard of anyone who quits the same day they were hired? What does that say about your work ethic? Not good, trust me.”
I looked up at Stephanie, wishing I could tell her about the kiss.
“Now, you're going to get dressed for work tomorrow and go show that boss of yours the stuff you're made of.” She continued with a confident smile and a wink.
“He makes me so nervous, I don't think I can face him”
“You can and you will. Want me to come with you? As an emotional support of course.”
I threw my head back, laughing “You're joking right?”
She looked at me with a serious face. My laughter immediately turned into a nervous chuckle as I replied “Absolutely not.”
“On a lighter note though, the company is organizing a send-forth party for the former secretary, you could accompany me to that” I hinted, in a bid to change the subject.
“Of course, I would love to attend. It's not like I've been to an office party before but are you sure you don't want me to be with you tomorrow?”
“100 percent!” I replied smiling.
“Okay, if you say so,” Steph retorted.
Just as I got off the couch, trudging off to bed, too tired to continue talking about the events of the day, my phone rang
Surprised at who would be calling at such a late hour, I contemplated letting it go to voicemail but decided to take it on the last ring.
“Hello,” I said.
“Hey, love...”
I would recognize that voice anywhere as I stood frozen in place.
