Alex's POV.
I quickly pulled back and was face to face with a strangely familiar face but I just couldn't point out where or how exactly I knew her.
“Who the fuck are you!” I yelled as I stood up. I was fuming inside.
The lady in front of me seemed taken aback but quickly recovered.
“Oh baby, stop playing.” She spoke in a sultry voice. “It's me Cassandra, Cassie?”
“From the club, remember? I called you a couple of days ago.” She added.
Oh fuck! So this is what she looks like!
I immediately turned to Sophia and she had her eyes down on the table, an embarrassed look plastered on her face.
I sat back down, not sure of what to say to her.
“So who's she?” Cassie purred as she suddenly placed herself on my lap.
“Cassandra–” I muttered through gritted teeth.
Her fingers reached for my lips but I grabbed her hands, roughly pushing her away from me.
“Ms. O'Brien,” I called but she didn't even spare me a glance. “I'll be right back.”
Motioning for Cassandra to follow me behind a decorated brick wall, I turned to her in annoyance.
“What the hell was that!?” I snapped “What?” She frowned, feigning ignorance.
“Listen to me and listen well. The next time I see you anywhere around me, I'm going to have you arrested. Got that?”
I didn't even wait for an answer as I stomped off angrily leaving her with her jaw dropped open.
Getting back to the booth, I was surprised to find that Sophia was nowhere to be found.
“Damn! I keep messing things up.”
***
Sophia's POV.
I mean how could I ever expect a billionaire like Alexander Hayes to feel something for me just because we shared a few kisses?
I sat in a taxi, trying so hard to hold my tears back as I clutched my bag close to my body.
I just couldn't stand the way some people at the restaurant were beginning to throw pity glances my way and even as secluded as the booth was, everyone seemed to love free drama.
A tear rolled down my cheek but I quickly wiped it away.
I was angry at myself for feeling this way. I was just his secretary after all.
As soon as I got to my stop, I got out of the taxi and practically ran up to my apartment. Once I got inside, Stephanie looked up from a book she was reading and frowned. “You're back so early, what happened?”
I shook my head, not able to trust my voice just yet.
The next moment, she was standing right in front of me, a serious expression on her face. “What did he do this time Sophia?”
“Nothing.” My voice wavered and her frown deepened.
I was surprised at how quickly she guessed who my problem was.
Without wasting a minute, she grabbed my bag, rummaged through it and brought out my phone.
My eyes grew wide. “Steph, no!” I reached for the phone but she pulled it back roughly.
“Sophia don't.” She warned.
I had a sinking feeling of what she was about to do and I was beginning to panic for I wouldn't put it past her.
She hadn't even heard about the kiss!
“Stephanie, please.” I pleaded.
“I'll consider not calling him and giving him a piece of my mind if you tell me what he did.”
My gut feeling was right!
I went forward and threw my arms around her neck, burying my face in her shoulder and shutting my eyes tightly to stop the tears.
“It's okay, Soph” she whispered, reciprocating the hug.
“Please don't call him. I'm embarrassed enough as it is.” I muttered under my breath.
“That's okay, whatever you want.”
Sniffling, I pulled back. “Thank you,” I whispered.
“Now will you tell me what he did?”
“I will but just not right now, I hope you understand.”
Sighing, she nodded.
I'm sure it took her a lot of effort to be complacent and I was grateful.
“I just want to go down the street, get coffee and also for some fresh air,” I said.
“Want me to come?” Steph asked.
“It's okay, I'll be just fine,” I replied
I picked up my bag from the floor where it fell and walked out the door.
Alex's POV
“Sophia O'brien?” I asked the guy standing in front of me, who stared at me weirdly like I just asked a rocket science question.
“Sophia O'brien? What apartment is hers?”
His eyes suddenly lit up in recognition. “The second apartment.”
Nodding in appreciation, I walked towards the apartment, standing like an idiot at the door, debating if this was a good idea or not.
Damn, Cassie!
Finally, I lifted my hand and knocked.
I heard footsteps approaching the door and then it flung open. A lady stood there, surprised before a frown took over her lips.
“Hi,” I muttered, waving my left hand.
“Are you by any chance Alexander Hayes?” She asked as she stared at me through narrowed eyes.
I nodded. “And you are?”
“Stephanie, Sophia’s best friend.”
I was already getting the feeling that she didn't like me that much. “Is Sophia—”
“Wait.” She cut me off, went inside and came back a few seconds later. With a baseball bat in her hands.
What?
I subconsciously stepped back a little.
“I'm here to see Sophia” I stated, with my eyes trained on the bat she was holding.
“You have some nerve showing up here and asking after her.” “I see she told you what happened—”
“Get out” she snapped, cutting me off.
It was becoming irritating when she did that.
I gritted my teeth in annoyance. “I'm not leaving unless I see her.”
“Look.” She raised the bat in the air and pointed it in my direction. “Sophia is a very strong woman. Now, I don't know what manwhoric tricks you're playing on her after what you put her through but I hate seeing her shed tears for them.”
Damn! Does she cry because of me? I thought for a split second.
“And if you ever—” she narrowed her eyes, “—ever do that again, I will personally sneak into your house or wherever it is you stay, which won't be hard to find and smash one of your expensive vases on your head.
I narrowed my eyes for a moment too. She didn't just threaten me, did she?
“Where's she?” I asked Again, not willing to give it up just yet.
“Are you not listening to me?” She snapped, “You will not see her.”
“Well, that would be impossible. I hope you realize that she's my secretary?” I scowled.
“Now when you're done with this drama, I'd like to see Sophia.” I insisted.
“Well, too bad, she's not here right now.” she glared at me.
“What? Then where is she?” I frowned.
“Happy searching.” She gave me a sarcastic smile just as she shut the door in my face.
“Dammit!” I cursed under my breath.
Where the hell is Sophia?
