CHAPTER 28

Lena put the baby to sleep and laid him on the Alpha's king-sized bed. She got her footwear on and made her way out of the room without uttering a word to him. She felt her heart would explode soon, and talking would only reveal to Don that she was finding it difficult to let go of the child.

It was one thing to be a mother-and another to care for the child until he or she grows up. She had experienced what it meant to go into labor and wished to experience how it would feel to take care of the child all day and night.

At her doorpost were Odessa and Eowyn leaning on the wall. Her lips parted into a broad smile. "I wasn't dead. It was a game!" She unlocked the door and walked in, and they joined her instantly.

She got seated and crossed her legs, taking a proper look around her room. "I will miss this room soon…" she swallowed softly before being tapped out of her thoughts by Eowyn. "Now, do you believe that I'm not a ghost?"

"It should be better not be….."

"It isn't…!!" Lena shut Odessa up. "What about Bianca and Evelyn?" she readjusted, placing her arms on her thighs and staring at their faces.

Odessa moistened her lips. "They are there, now mistresses."

"What do you mean?" Lena widened her eyes. "Evelyn has been a mistress…."

"Bianca was demoted from a consort to a mistress after Evelyn set her up to poison Don," Eowyn added and chuckled. "Since everyone thought you were dead, they became enemies."

Lena breathed out. "It's a pity!"

"So, why would you two play such tricks? At least, letting us know would have been better. Now I know why Alpha insisted that I won't leave the palace when I wanted to…" Odessa pouted her lips. They were still unable to tell if they were sad for being played or happy that Lena was still alive and even returned with her child. "He said I could leave after six months, and this is the sixth month."

Lena chuckled. "He calculated it so well…." She relaxed back on the sofa. "He felt unsafe telling anyone, so tricking everyone was the only way to assure my safety until I conceived." She looked at them. "Could you recall that day he took me out without letting me know where we headed nor did I tell you guys afterwards?"

They nodded in unison, being so attentive.

"He took me to a building that was surrounded by his men-those ones were way too strong than the ones here by just looking at them. I didn't know what he had in store at that time, but it turned out that he prepared the mansion so I could stay there until I conceived." she grinned and licked her lips. "It was fun staying there with those servants and nurses that took care of me."

Odessa clutched her palm to her chest.

"Nathan and Tyrion will be executed this evening. I will organize a little funeral for him too." Lena looked out through the window. "This might be my last day here…." she blinked, struggling to hold back the tears in her eyes.

Eowyn released a deep breath. "Now, Bianca and Evelyn would commit suicide for a plan not well done."

"I hope the moon goddess will keep my son safe from their evil plots." Lena thought, still looking through the window. "I am so hungry…"

Odessa stood instantly. "I will prepare you something-"

At midnight, everyone was already asleep.

Lena got down from the bed and covered the baby very well. She kissed his forehead and headed to the wardrobe where she brought out the letter she had written and placed it beside the child.

Her palms were sweating, and she hated it. She wants to get the child out of her mind and leave permanently, but it is becoming a hassle. She picked up the necessary things she needed and had them stuck into a little bag.

"I will miss you all so much-" she sniffed and wiped her face. "I hope you grow to be as strong as your father, but please, don't recall your mother and believe whatever lies your father tells you about me." she scoffed, tears welled up in her eyes.

She had prepared everything and taught Odessa the necessary things she needed to know. Even when Odessa was curious to know why she was teaching all that, she lied with her shoulders high.

She glanced at the bed opposite and smiled at Odessa and Eowyn, who were sound asleep. "Susan will soon be here. I hope you three will take good care of Alpha's son. Make sure Bianca and Evelyn don't harm him." tears streamed down her cheeks, and she wiped them off.

Slowly, she sneaked out of the room and made her way through the backyard. The guards there are pretty small for her to handle.

When she reached the balcony, she threw an unsealed little bottle she had gotten from one of the nurses over to the corner where the guards were standing and stood at the side watching. Within seconds, they dozed off, and she hurried out through the back gate.

"I didn't even see Alpha's face for the last time because he didn't want to know when I would leave. He would wake up if I went into his room…." She was on her heels, running as fast as she could. "Alpha, remember your promises to take care of my baby. You two have to be strong and you must get past all the pain I caused you." she swallowed hard, sobbing silently and heavily while heading toward the route that would take her to the border.

Alpha Dante's growl filled the whole palace. He wanted her to leave-or maybe he didn't…. but even if she would leave, he didn't expect it to be so early.

He wanted her to stay closer for some time, but waking up to see her maids sobbing and searching for her made him feel broken.

He had ordered the whole guards and servants to find her, or they would be punished. When she came to carry his son, he saw a letter placed beside him and unsealed it.

Sniffing, he tore it apart. "How do I make your friend the child's nanny? I won't even touch the baby until I find you. I can't stand your absence." he threw the papers on the floor. "If you can't be my Luna, then be the baby's nanny."

He staggered into his room. "Guard!!!" his chief guard came into the room instantly. "The borders should be blocked. Search the woods, all taverns, all resorts…. all homes too. You must find her!" he commanded, and the guard vacated the room.

He clenched his jaw. "You thought I meant it when I said I would execute you?" he shook his head. "You ignored the bond between the mother and child and left-I didn't expect that. If you don't return, I won't touch that child. We must train him together. He must know his mother…."

He nibbled on his bottom lip, trying not to let his wolf take over him.
