Chapter 56 The Enormous Trap

Chapter 56 The Enormous Trap

Elara stepped between Ethan and Sylvia, putting an end to their argument.

She quickly explained what she had promised Harrison today and shared her concerns.

Even though the Craigmor clan wasn't the most prestigious family in Vossshire, they had a decent reputation.

For a family member to work at the Blackwood family's company, they needed the family's approval.

Ethan shrugged it off.

Since he had already been kicked out of the house, he figured he should make his own decisions and adopted a laid-back attitude.

Sylvia, on the other hand, was more cautious.

She called her family. And her family said it was fine, but gave a lot of advice.

After all, the Blackwood family was almost unrivaled in Vossshire, and every family wanted to have some connection with them.

At the last party, Kieran had casually spoken to Ethan, and many people started speculating about a possible relationship between the Craigmor clan and the Blackwood family.

With Elara at the core department of Blackwood Heritage Group, the Craigmor clan felt reassured about Ethan's involvement.

Sylvia wanted to say more, but received a call from her company about an urgent matter.

The three of them made dinner plans and then parted ways.

Just then, Kieran called.

"Hey, are you busy right now?"

"Mr. Blackwood, what's up?"

"If you're free, can you come to Blackwood Heritage Group now to sign the employment agreement? I'm at the office and have some things to discuss with you."

"Sure, I'll be there right away."

After hanging up, Elara made sure Ethan was settled and then took a cab to Blackwood Heritage Group.

This was Elara's third time at the Blackwood Heritage Group building.

She looked up at the towering structure, still feeling its immense presence, like a giant beast dominating the land.

Yet, there was a strange sense of familiarity now.

As she was lost in thought, Jasper appeared at the entrance, smiling. "Miss Voss, we meet again."

Elara was a bit surprised.

Jasper, as Kieran's assistant, was usually as stoic as Kieran himself, both known for their serious demeanor.

Jasper said, "Only you can solve the company's current issues. When Mr. Blackwood is in a good mood, so am I."

Elara gave an awkward smile and exchanged a few polite words.

Jasper's comment, if heard by someone who didn't know them, might sound like there was something secretive between them, spoken so ambiguously.

Just like last time, Jasper escorted her to Kieran's office door and then left.

This was her second time in Kieran's office.

The last time was in the morning, and the atmosphere was heavy and oppressive.

This time, it was afternoon.

The curtains were open, and the setting sun streamed through the large windows, filling the office with a warm glow.

Kieran was leaning against his desk, slowly sipping a caramel latte, staring out at the Vossshire cityscape.

As the sunlight touched his face, it seemed to slow down, gently caressing every line of his chiseled features.

With his short hair and tight black silk shirt, he looked both handsome and commanding.

For a moment, Elara felt a bit dazed.

"You're here. No need to stand there, come and sit."

Kieran noticed Elara standing at the door for a while.

He picked up another cup of coffee from the desk and placed it on the table.

Elara walked over and sat down across from him.

"I'm glad you're joining Blackwood Heritage Group," Kieran said, his tone warm.

"Honestly, it wasn't just Mr. Harrison Blackwood's offer that tempted me. He knew exactly what my weak spot was," Elara replied, shrugging and taking a sip of her coffee. It was sweet.

Kieran's voice dropped, "But things might not be as smooth as you think. Remember what happened last time in the project office?"

"Juniper?"

"Yeah, Juniper."

"She's still here?"

"Yep."

Elara's heart sank.

She had hoped the core department of Blackwood Heritage Group had been cleared out, with Juniper and her crew gone.

That was why Harrison wanted her involved, or so she thought.

She realized Harrison was exploiting her longing for Lisa and her desire for revenge over Lisa's framed thesis to get her to join Blackwood Heritage Group.

But she hadn't expected those people to still be around.

What did this mean?

Was she supposed to compete with Juniper for the position and push her out of Blackwood Heritage Group?

It dawned on her.

Harrison's promise that she would be in charge of the department was true.

But the catch was that the department already had a leader, Juniper, whom even Kieran had to accommodate.

Harrison's message was clear: I'm giving you the chance, but whether you can secure it depends on your ability.

If she couldn't outmaneuver Juniper, she wasn't qualified to manage the core department of Blackwood Heritage Group.

The key issue was the complex relationship between the Hart family and the Blackwood family.

Any misstep could lead to Harrison sacrificing her to maintain the relationship between the two families.

All the talk about joining Blackwood Heritage Group independently, shares, dividends, and freedom was just a ploy.

Harrison was using her desire for revenge to help Kieran clean up the core department and train a professional team for Blackwood Heritage Group.

After two years, she would be dismissed.

Elara felt a chill, looking at Kieran in disbelief.

She opened her mouth.

"Were you part of this morning's scheme?"

Kieran replied calmly, "No."

"Do you think I believe you?"

Elara snorted, stood up, and turned to leave.

Kieran's voice was cold, "Does it matter if you believe it or not?"

Elara said, "Of course it matters. Mr. Blackwood, you've achieved your goal, haven't you? You wanted me to join Blackwood Heritage Group from the start, using my father to pressure me, and inviting me earnestly. When I didn't budge, you brought in Mr. Harrison Blackwood, hitting the mark."

"My grandfather,"

Kieran started to speak but swallowed his words, changing his tone.

"Just do your best at Blackwood Heritage Group. For now, the Cultural Heritage and Restoration Department will have two sets of members. Soon, I'll hand the department over to you completely. Trust me."

Elara threw his words back at him, "Does it matter if I trust you?"

Kieran stood up, speaking each word clearly, "Now, it matters a lot. You're my person. Remember, as long as you're at Blackwood Heritage Group, you only do what you want and can do. Anything you don't want to do, I'll handle for you. Don't worry."

With that, Kieran left the office.

He was clearly angry, but it wasn't directed at Elara.
