Chapter 49 The feeling
VICTORIA
“What?" I gasped in shock, my jaw dropping.
His eyes narrowed, and he let go of me, then got up and trudged to the door.
“Hold on!" I snapped, springing up.
He froze, but didn't turn around to look at me.
“You said you've lost someone that way? Who?" I asked.
He slowly turned around, his eyes dark. So dark that my heart clenched in fear.
“Yes, and I do feel like committing murder sometimes. I do feel like hunting after them…” he paused, and began to trudge closer, his dark eyes piercing into mine and sinking horror inside of me.
I had never seen him this way before. The anger, the hate, the eerie feeling that surrounded him forced chills to wash down my spine.
I shuddered and took steps back, fear clutching onto my neck even though he meant no harm.
He kept drawing closer, dragging his feet along the wooden floor.
“I want to chop their limbs off and feed them to them. Make them watch as I chop their fingers off, burn their skins with oil, and saw their body into two–"
"Stop!” I screamed, and slammed my hands against my ears, shrinking back while gasping in horror.
“Why are you scared?" He whispered in a dark eerie tone that made my heart clench. He sounded so different. He sounded dangerous and the complete opposite of Mr Thompson. What could have possessed him?
“You've seen things like that before. Why does hearing it scare you now? We're used to those kinds of scenes," he muttered.
I jerked my head, and glared at him, seething.
“I'm not used to seeing someone do it, especially someone I care about!"
His eyes lowered, and he tilted his head to the side, like a zombie.
“You care about me?" He asked, surprise replacing the darkness in his voice.
“Of course I care about you!" I snapped, filled with anger at his sudden surprise.
Didn't he know I care about him?
Silence fell in the room as we stared at each other, both full of surprises.
The silence was so heavy that it made my stomach churn in uneasiness. What if this ends the friendship we shared?
“I…” my trembling lips parted to revoke what I had said but they slammed shut in fear when he began to march towards me, his eyes blazing.
I gasped loudly and my heart dropped into the pit of my belly at how aggressive he looked as he drew closer.
Before I could move an inch from where I stood, he grabbed the back of my head and slammed his lips on mine, causing my breath to cease.
My body froze, and so did my mind, the moment his lips met mine. My eyes widened in surprise as he deepened the kiss. My heart raced and blood gushed through my body at an unexplainable speed. I couldn't explain how I felt but I knew I didn't feel the same way anymore. My hands slowly raised and wrapped around his neck, pulling closer.
I wished this feeling could last forever with no one around to stop us.
But the moment I wished for that, a knock pierced through the door.
“Boss, is she still crying?" Roseanne's voice filtered into the room, and my heart clenched in anger.
Mr Thompson broke the kiss, and stared deep into my eyes, his hand shifting from the back of my head to my cheek.
“Boss?" Roseanne called from outside, but he didn't move an inch away from where he stood.
I saw the knob turn when my eyes flickered to the door for a second.
I expected him to move, but he didn't. Instead, he leaned his face closer, his eyes shifting to my swollen lips.
My heart leaped, and a wave of panic surged through me.
“Sir?" I whispered, my eyes flickering from the door to his blank face.
The moment the door pushed open, I pushed him away and staggered for the door.
“Jesus!" Roseanne screamed and jumped back.
She gripped her chest, and gasped out, drained in fear and shock.
“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,” I apologized.
She swallowed and nodded her head, forcing a smile onto her face to cover up the horror she felt.
“Are you fine now?" Her hand still trembled when she placed it on my shoulder.
“Yes, I…” My breath hitched when Mr Thompson came out of the room.
His eyes darted in my direction, and an emotion I couldn't decipher flashed across his face.
“I'm outside," he said to Roseanne then turned and walked out.
I let out a sigh and gripped my hands as I stared at his back.
“It took a long while before you calmed down. I didn't know the boss had that kind of impressive patience with crybabies," Roseanne teased,.and I snapped a glare at her.
“I'm sorry," she raised her hands in the air, her lips twitched up in mischief.
I narrowed my eyes, hoping she didn't notice the swell in my lips.
“Silas isn't here?" I finally asked about my partner.
"The boss really did a good job in helping you get back to yourself. I wondered when the grief would let you notice his absence,” she teased again.
“Shut the fuck up and just answer my question,” I hit her playfully.
She giggled and turned, then we began to walk out of the house.
“He is preparing for a honeymoon,” she blurted out.
I gasped, and jerked my head up, my eyes widening.
“He is married?”
“No, he is getting married," she corrected.
“And none of you told me about it?" I asked.
"I think he'll send you an invitation before the weekend,” she replied.
I sighed and shook my head.
“So, I'm without a partner now," I mumbled.
"You and Mr Thompson will name a great partner though,” she teased again.
The smile on my face faded, and I glared at her.
She slapped her hand over her mouth and slipped out of the house.
A blush darted over my face quickly and I smiled, secretly agreeing with her.
My brows raised when I looked around and didn't find the woman.
“She left for home, I told her that I'll bring you back," Mr Thompson said from where he stood.
I gulped hard and forced a smile onto my face before skidding down the stairs.
“We'll put the cabin on restriction and send officers to guide it. I'm sure the man will come around,” Mr Thompson said and the others nodded.
He looked at me and waved for me to come along.
“Let's go," he ordered.
The cops had already arrived and were trooping in, rushing towards the cabin.
I nodded at each of them before walking briskly to join Mr Thompson.
“There's no way I'll let you kill someone that way," I said when I got to where he was.
He stopped talking to Kevin and faced me.
“Then don't talk about killing that man again. We'll find him and make him face justice, understood?" He instructed.
I found myself nodding without argument.
We didn't say another word to each other as we walked down the hill, while he conversed with Kevin.
Roseanne tried multiple times to start a conversation but failed as my mind was fixed on what had happened inside that cabin.
His lips pressed against mine, his hand at the back of my head, his eyes…
“The car is over here, Miss Victoria," Mr Thompson called, waving his hand towards his Jeep.
I nodded and waved goodbye at Roseanne, Kevin, and Sam before shuffling towards the Jeep.
Mr Thompson smiled at me as he pulled the door open. I returned the smile and got in, feeling butterflies flutter around my belly.
As I reached for the seat belt, my phone buzzed in my pocket, forcing me to stop.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out
the phone.
My smile dropped, and my heart began to race when my eyes caught the message that popped up on my screen.
‘COME TO THE VILLA RIGHT NOW, VICTORIA!’ Dad.
