Chapter 96 Hunger

Chapter 96 Hunger
It's been two days since Dante woke up from his coma, and I'm grateful that his condition is getting better and better. Right after he woke up from his coma, he could barely stand on his two feet, but after some exercise, he can now walk again. It's such a relief to see his health improving with my own eyes. After we both heal, we shouldn't stall on getting our revenge on the Romanos. They think they're the only ones who can play with others' lives. Little did they know that we could do worse than them. No more holding back our wrath against them anymore.

My heart drops to the floor when Dante trips and almost falls. My grasp around his arm tightens as I hold him up. Since my left arm is still in a sling and needs to stay in it for another week, it's harder for me to hold Dante up on his feet. Other than that, he's almost twice my size, so it's difficult to keep him standing with only one arm.

When my gaze turns to his face, I scowl at the sight of his stupid grin. He chuckles at my concern and panic, and I pinch his arm in anger. He lets out a wince, and I roll my eyes in return. I can't believe he did it again. It's dumb of me to keep falling for his prank after Dante does it again and again.

"Stop doing that! Next time you do it, I swear to God I'll actually let you fall," I threaten.

"You won't dare," Dante says, still grinning widely at me.

"Try me," I say as I continue to scowl at him. Dante's grin fades as he realises the seriousness of my words. I hold myself back from laughing at the sight of him becoming fearful instead of playful.

Got him. Of course, I won't let him actually fall. If he keeps joking around like that, I might not be able to hold him up, and he might fall. I don't want that to happen, so it's better to send him a harmless threat than endanger his well-being.

"I guess that's enough for now. Let's get you back to bed," I say.

Dante carefully sits on the bed, sighing exasperatedly. I help him get his legs onto the bed and then sit in the chair next to him. My gaze falls to his abdomen again, where his wound is. Now that he's not shirtless, unlike before, I can't really see if he's still bleeding or not. It shouldn't be, though. The doctor said Dante's wound has closed up, but he's still at risk of ripping it open again if he doesn't move carefully. So, whenever the doctor or nurse is not around, I'm in charge of keeping him in check.

"Let me check the wound," I say, reaching out for his stomach. Dante tries to move away, but then he winces silently.

"It's fi-"

I give him a look, and then Dante sighs in defeat. "Okay. Fine."

A quick look at the gauze over his wound is enough to calm me down. The blood coming from his wound seems to have decreased significantly. Earlier in the morning, the wound dressing was still a bit soaked with blood, but now there's only a speck of it on it, which only means good things. It's good that his wound is healing well.

"Looks like it's getting better based on the amount of blood on the gauze," I say.

"Good. That means you don't have to worry about me anymore," Dante says.

Hell no. I won't stop worrying about him until he has truly healed and recovered. Once he's all good, that's when I can truly calm down. For now, I'm going to stick by his side like a clingy cat and keep my eyes on him while I'm awake.

"Nope. You haven't fully healed just yet, so I'll still worry about you," I say.

Instead of getting annoyed, Dante smirks at me. His body relaxes as he lies there on his bed with his hands behind his head. The butterflies in my stomach act up at the sight. Damn that cocky smirk of his. Even when he's sick, he still manages to make me blush.

"Alright. Then you're all mine for longer," Dante says.

My cheeks blush even more from hearing his words. Honestly, I don't mind it. On the contrary, I'm glad I get to spend more time with Dante. Also, now that I know my father is fine with me being with Dante, spending time with him doesn't feel as scary anymore.

"I've always been yours anyway," I say.

Despite how hot my cheeks are from his facial expression and words, I try to keep my cool, but my smile probably gives away my true feelings. I can't wait until we come back home. I miss the times when I sleep next to Dante. Unfortunately for me, my father won't let me stay at the hospital with Dante and forced me to go back home once the visiting hours are over in these past couple of days. I don't think today will be any different. It feels lonely without Dante at home. We usually talk and hang out with each other at night, but now that he's still at the hospital, I can only stare at the ceiling at night in complete silence.

My stomach churns and lets out a grumble. A glance at Dante is enough to make me feel embarrassed. He definitely hears my stomach rumbling. Well, I only eat a piece of waffle in the morning, so that's probably why I'm hungry already. It's better if I get something, or else I'll get sick from not eating enough, aside from being in pain from this fuckass gunshot wound in my arm.

"Do you want anything? I feel like getting some fries and a burger," I say.

"From outside the hospital?" Dante asks.

"Yeah. I don't really like the cafeteria food. It kinda sucks, and there aren't many options to choose from," I say.

The day Dante woke up from his coma, I asked Enzo to get me something from the cafeteria, and the options were not it. However, because I was already too hungry, I was forced to eat some sandwiches and a cup of coffee. The sandwiches turned out to taste kinda strange, almost bland. So, I don't want to make the same mistake and would rather order from a nearby cafe or restaurant.

"I'm not allowed to eat anything from outside, remember?" Dante says.

"Pfft. They won't know. Besides, aren't you bored of eating mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, and bland or sour juice since yesterday? I promise you won't drop dead after eating from outside," I say. Dante chuckles at my awful joke, but then his face turns serious again.

"Well, yeah, but-"

"Then let's get you something good. Since you're not really allowed to eat anything too solid yet, how about some tiramisu or panna cotta? And maybe some smoothies or milkshakes too? Your choice," I ask. Dante nods, giving in to the temptation. I smile at his response. He's probably bored enough to be cooped up in this room, so the least I can do is make things a bit bearable, and that is by giving him good food.

"Alright. Your call. Honestly, some tiramisu would be nice," Dante says.

"Okay. I'll let my father know about it. He'll be back in an hour or two," I say. Pulling out my phone, I quickly text my father about our food orders.

"About your father..." Dante says.

I look up from my phone, and from the look on Dante's face, it's clear that he's still worried about my father. It's killing me on the inside that I can't let him know about the truth just yet. Maybe I should've let him know, despite what my father said, but at the same time, I feel like it's better to wait a bit longer. It's just for precaution. Even though I trust Dante, we can't be too careful, especially about something related to my love life.

"Don't worry about him. He won't be mad. I won't let him do anything to you. I promise," I say.

My phone rings, and a frown crawls onto my face at the caller ID: Antonio.

Shit. I almost forgot about him. What should I do? He's been calling and texting me since the day Dante woke up, but I've been ignoring his calls. It's a good thing that he didn't do a surprise visit to my house, or else he'll be suspicious of me. I should definitely answer his call before he gets too suspicious.
