Chapter 94 Awake

Chapter 94 Awake
My heart sinks as I stare at Dante. After three days in a coma, Dante has visibly lost weight. He's not as pale as he was before now that his body has gotten back the blood it's lost, but I hate that he's still not awake yet. I'm worried, anxious even, now that he hasn't truly woken up. How much longer will it take for him to wake up? At this point, I'm afraid that he won't wake up and just stay asleep for the rest of his life. It would be painful to see that he's alive but not conscious.

Today is the day I get discharged from the hospital, and today Dante finally leaves the ICU now that his condition is stable and better than before. Even though today is the day I can leave the hospital, I don't think I'll be able to leave Dante's side. I'd rather stay here in his room until he's awake and out of the hospital.

"Don't think about staying. You should go home and rest," my father says.

Just as I thought, my father won't let me stay. I won't let him control me, though. I've rested enough in these past few days. I'll be fine. I won't get sick just from waiting for Dante to wake up. Is it too much to ask to stay by Dante's side until he wakes up?

"But I can rest just fine here. I can sleep on the sofa," I say.

"It's better if you rest at home. In your own bed," my father says.

I frown as I remember the state of my bedroom when I left it. There was so much blood. On the floor, on the wall, even on my clothes in the closet. I bet my bedroom smells like disinfectant now. Even worse than hospital smell. Too bad some of my clothes probably need to be thrown away because of those bastards' blood tainting my beautiful clothes. Although the blood might come off, I'd rather not use something that has had blood on it.

"Is it... clean now?" I ask.

"Yes. We had to throw away some of your stuff because of the blood, but yes, everything's clean now. And no, your room doesn't smell bad. I've told the maid to spray some air freshener and also turned on the diffuser with some essential oils," my father says.

Okay. That's actually very considerate of him. However, even though my room is clean now, I'd still rather stay here at the hospital until Dante wakes up from his coma. I don't really trust leaving him alone with Enzo. Someone could try to kill him in his sleep, and I'd rather not take that risk.

"I still would rather stay here," I say.

"You can visit him every day if you want to and stay here with him for hours, but you'd better get some rest at home at night," my father says.

My father is reasonable, but my decision still hasn't changed. I'd rather wait for Dante at the hospital. Who knows if he wakes up from his coma at night. I want to be there when he opens his eyes after days of sleeping.

"No. I'm not leaving until he wakes up," I say.

My father scoffs, smiling at my stubborness. I hope that's a sign he'll let me stay tonight. Please just give up trying to convince me to leave, father. I won't listen to you. He might have to get his men to drag me out of this room to really leave. That can't happen. I won't let him do it.

"There's no way I can get you out of here, huh?" my father says.

"No. I don't want to leave him alone," I say.

"He won't be alone. Enzo will watch over him," my father says.

"Yeah, but I'd rather be here and keep my eyes on him all the time," I say.

I'm not letting anyone to take a chance in killing Dante while he's unconscious. Not on my watch. There will be hell to pay if someone attempts to hurt Dante while he's in a coma. I'll actually kill them myself if they tries to even lay a finger on him.

"Fine. I have to leave now, but I'll be back later. If you need anything, call me. Enzo is right outside if you need anything from the cafeteria," my father says.

"Okay," I say.

"I'll see you later. Don't forget to eat your lunch," my father says.

When my father is out of the room, I turn to Dante. Just like always, his breathing and heart rate are steady. Different from before, he now looks more peaceful in his sleep. It's like he's finally resting after fighting for his life for three days. Now that the storm's over, he can actually put himself to rest.

"Please wake up soon. I miss you. I know it's only been three days, but I miss you. I miss talking with you and lying next to you. I miss staring into your eyes. When will you wake up? The doctors said you are fine, but I'm still afraid of what might happen to you. I don't think I can really calm down if I haven't seen you wake up. So, please, wake up," I say.

I wipe away my tears, but my heart only aches even more when I see no response from Dante. I guess he's truly asleep this time. There's nothing I can do now other than let him rest and heal.

I keep my hand on his while I put my head next to him and close my eyes. Whatever the doctor gave me, it makes me really sleepy. I don't think I can stay awake any longer. A quick nap should suffice. I'll wake up in thirty minutes and continue to watch Dante again later, just in case he decides to wake up later.

My breath hitches as I feel a movement from Dante. I quickly sit up straight and stare at Dante's face. I keep my gaze on him, and I see his eyelids twitching as he fights his own body to wake up. His hand moves a little bit once again as I hold it in mine. My heart races at the sight. Is this finally the time? Is Dante finally waking up today?

Hopeful, I shift my gaze to his face once again. His eyes open slowly, and I continue to stare into his eyes. His gaze is empty until it's focused on me. I gently push him down as he tries to sit up. He looks around the room in confusion, still not registering his situation. I need to get the doctor now.

I get on my feet to leave, but then get stopped by the weak grasp around my wrist. I turn around and see Dante staring at me. I frown as I see how scared and sad he looks. What's wrong? Why is he looking at me like that?

"Are you okay?" I ask.

"Don't leave me," Dante says. His voice is hoarse as he said those words. I frown. As much as I want to stay, I definitely should get a doctor first so he can examine Dante and check his condition.

"I won't. I'll be back in a second," I say.

As the doctor checks Dante, I stand on the side, watching as he does different examination with Dante. I can't help but smile and cry at the sight of Dante finally fully conscious. After minutes with the doctor, it's visible that his confusion finally washes away and now Dante's back to be himself.

Dante is finally awake. I'm glad he is. He's going to be okay now. I don't have to worry about him anymore.
