CHAPTER 32—AMELIA POV

"What's your plan tomorrow?" Jasmine asked sitting on my sofa.

We were having a girls’ night as we had finally managed to steal Jasmine away for a night from her baby. Me and Jodie were drinking wine whilst Jasmine, who drove Jodie here, was sipping on juice.

"I'm working from home tomorrow. Have some meetings with Xavier," I said.

"She's working from home so that she can get some," Jodie sang, slightly buzzed.

I just roll my eyes.

"Actually." I clear my throat. "I'm leaving Kings Corp. tomorrow and thought it'd be better to do it privately with no paparazzi around."

"Oh," Jasmine pretended to understand.

"I need to go home," Jodie said drunkenly, showing me her lock-screen.

Message from Leroy.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll take you to your hook up," Jasmine muttered under her breath, offering to drive her.

"Thank you," she said and pulled Jasmine in for a big hug. Using her spare hand, Jasmine pulls me into the hug as well.

The girls left soon, and I managed to get into my bed relatively early. It was quite easy to fall asleep since I was slightly drunk as well.

The only meeting I had, in person, tomorrow was with Xavier, who was coming later in the evening, so I turned off all of my alarms and allowed myself to sleep in.

The next morning, I wince as my feet touch the cold floor. Feeling quite refreshed from a good night’s sleep, I made my way to the bathroom and took a quick shower.

I mostly just go through some paperwork and final contracts with Chopra's team throughout the day, mostly procrastinating as I had nothing much to do.

I hear the doorbell ring and check my security system through my phone to see that it's Xavier.

Why is he here? Our meeting isn't planned for hours.

Embarrassingly, I open the door for him, in my satin pyjamas and fluffy gown.

His eyes linger on me for a moment, signature smirk on his lips, before he walks in.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. I tried to hide my embarrassment by speaking in a blunt tone.

"Just wanted to see you," he said.

I roll my eyes but a part of me is touched that he came to see me despite having a meeting with me in a few hours.

I gesture for him to go to my office, following him after grabbing 2 water bottles from the fridge.

He holds the office door open for me, sneakily wrapping his arm around my waist as we both walk in. Annoyed, I take his arm off of me but he's unfazed by it.

I didn't need him being all sweet and touchy, especially when I didn't know why he was here.

He sits opposite me, his legs rested against mine.

"Kings Corp. is really thriving," he started the conversation.

"That's because I'm in control," I bragged shamelessly. He smirks, impressed with my confidence, despite being in my pyjamas.

"Well, I'll just take the success as my thank you present for letting you use it," he said.

"A thank you present?" I questioned. "I thought you ‘owed’ me," I quoted his words.

"Maybe I can give you a thank you gift instead?" he said. Any other day it would've been the easiest way to get my lips onto his but not today.

Today I was resisting the urge to cringe.

"Xavier, please focus," I said, almost pleading.

"I'm sorry," he recollected himself. "You make it hard to focus, Amelia."

I try hard to hide my blush, and I think it worked since he's not pulling the cocky face.

I need to leave, before I do something I shouldn't.

I had a meeting with Mr Chopra through video call but now I've decided to just meet him in person instead just so I can leave the house.

"Mr King, you need to leave," I said. "I need to get ready."

His eyebrow cocks up with curiosity. "Where are you going?"

"Out," I said. He doesn't need to know where I'm going.

"Out where?" he asked.

"That is none of your concern," I said and got off of my desk and went into my bedroom, starting to get ready to meet Chopra.

I can hear Xavier's footsteps as he followed me into my room.

"Amelia, I just want to know where you're going and know about your day," he said calmly.

"It's not your business, Xavier," I said and took my pyjama set off, standing in front of him in my mismatched bra and panties.

It doesn't even bother me that he's there, he's seen and felt me much more intimately than this.

"I'm not trying to get into your business. I just want to know about your day and your plans," he said.

"You're not my fucking boyfriend."

I pick out a navy button down shirt with a black skirt and blazer. His face looked a little hurt, but he quickly recovered and raised his hands in surrender.

"Ok, you're right. I'll see you at 7 p.m. for our meeting, Miss Davis," he said and walked out.

I see him from my window, getting into his car and driving off.

I knew my words were harsh, but I was already in deeper than I wanted to be.

I get into my car and drive off to the Pyramid headquarters to see Chopra.

"Nice to finally see you," Chopra greeted me. We hadn't met again since we signed the contract.

"Likewise." I shook his hand.

"You and Mr King seem to be getting quite close." He smirked.

"It won't be lasting much longer," I scoffed.

"I guess signing his company over to you wasn't the way to your heart?" he joked.

"I know how to get what I want, Chopra, and you know that I'm not afraid to break some hearts to get what I want."

"You are a dangerous woman, Miss Davis." He laughs and I smile.

"I just needed you to authorize some documents to settle the distribution of Pyramid shares that I will get," I said, getting on with business. "Your team forgot to take them last time."

Our meeting is wrapped up pretty fast and Chopra offers to walk me back to my car, which I accept.

As we walk out of the building I see Xavier there, waiting impatiently, leaning on his car.

Did he follow me?

"Romeo here to pick you up?" Chopra smirked.

"Actually, I didn't even tell him I'm here."

I take a deep breath, remembering I'm still in front of a business partner.

"Mr King, what brings you here?"

"Amelia, what are you doing here with him?" he seethed.

His jaw was clenched, and his eyes were dark just by seeing me with Chopra.

Was he jealous?

"He's my business partner. Why wouldn't I be with him?" I replied. Chopra must’ve overheard as he threw a nasty wink at Xavier.

"Just remember that the only reason he's your business partner is because of me," he said. I don't know what's gotten into him.

"Yes, you were stupid enough to sign your company off, and now, she's richer than both of us," Chopra interrupted.

"Actually, I think you're the stupid one, Chopra, because she has an end date for owning my company." He smirks.

"Amelia, what?" Chopra asked.

"Can we all please calm down a little?" I tried to control the situation. I didn't know why Xavier was so angry, but it was affecting Chopra too.

"Tell him, Miss Davis. Tell him how you're going to return my company—tonight, in fact, and he signed away 10% of his shares for less than half of its worth." Xavier has a stupid victory smirk. "She played you, Alexander."

"Amelia, what the fuck? The contract—" Chopra is struggling with his words.

I put my hand out to gesture for Chopra to stop talking.

I take a few steps closer to Xavier, closing the gap between us and distancing myself away from Chopra.

"Mr King, it is with great displeasure that I will have to inform you—" My lips were inches away from his ear. "—that I will not be signing Kings Corporate back to you."
