CHAPTER 149

LILIANA'S POV

“I call on my family's maid.” I called out in a loud and clear tone, and the smile slipped from Tony's face.

“How is she relevant to your case?” the judge asked shrewdly.

I eyed him, disgusted by him. “She knows everything that happened and those involved. She has also been helping me gather evidence.”

“Apart from her, is there any other evidence?” the man asked.

“There was supposed to be someone else, but I believe he knows what happened to her more than I do.” I said, referring to my brother.

“Who is this person you speak of?”

“Fiona. My stepbrother's wife.” I stated.

Again I could hear murmurs among the people present. I saw Tony exchange a look with the man, and he nodded at him.

The man cleared his throat, a sound I was beginning to hate. “Fiona, who you claim is your evidence, was found out to be a spy for a rival pack and was punished adequately,” the man said.

“What do you mean by being punished adequately?” I wanted to know.

“Well, she was sentenced to death by dismemberment,” the man explained.

“Oh,” was all I could manage to say. I suspected she was dead, but actually hearing she was dead hit me like a mental fist.

“How come we are just hearing of this?” The elderly man from earlier challenged the judge, getting to his feet.

“She was the. Spouse of our alpha. We didn't want her execution to be made public.” The man had a response for everything.

I was beside myself with fury. I vowed I was going to avenge her.

The maid was called up, and she stood before me and my brother. I smiled reassuringly at her, but the maid didn't return the smile.

Why does she look so stiff?

I wondered about that, thinking the woman was too nervous.

“It's okay. Tell them everything you know.” I urged believing there was no way the man could cover things up anymore after the maid's testimony.

“Are you sure?” the maid asked me, and I nodded at her, giving my permission.

“Tell us what you know.”

The maid looked at me then, and I had a sinking feeling that all wasn't going the way I wanted.

She pointed at me, still staring me in the face.

“All I know is that she is the murderer of the former alpha, and she ran away to avoid being sentenced.”

I stared open-mouthed at the maid. Now she was avoiding my gaze, and my brother was smiling again, drumming his fingers against his lap.

The maid was led away. But the elderly werewolf wasn't satisfied. Suspecting something wasn't right.

“Liliana, what do you want to do?” He asked softly, ignoring the judge.

I pointed at Tony. “I want him thrown in the dungeons and punished for what he did to my father and me.”

The man looked at my stepbrother. “Is there something you would like to say?”

Tony lazily stood up from his throne. “In regard to the letter, yes, I admit to plotting to kill her, but that was after I found out what she did and that she intended to run away.”

“Let's settle this thing once and for all. I never framed her because the truth is she did commit the crime. But I'm willing to let that all go if she can defeat me.”

I wasn't following. “Defeat you how? When you control everyone who is supposed to have a say in this matter.”

Tony smirked at me. “There's one other way. We are going to have a test of strength. If you defeat me, then I will step down and give you the alpha seat.”

GERALD'S POV

“Absolutely not. I'm not in support of this. I've known Tony for a long time, and I know he is cunning and sly. He will do whatever trickery he can to win you.” I tried reasoning with Liliana on the phone.

She had finally reached out to me, telling me of the ambush that had been waiting for them when they got to her pack. Someone had leaked out the information that they were coming.

And that meant there was truly a spy staying with them on his territory.

“What other choice do I have? He blocks me at every point. I have to win this, Gerald.” She told me.

I sighed and asked her when the fight was.

“Tomorrow morning,” she replied to me.

We spoke some more, and I told her about how Tony fights, his patterns, and all of that. After that she hung up.

I sat down in the darkness of my study, my mind trying to figure out who the mole was.

My phone rang. I looked at it, and it was Cassandra's father.

I sighed. But first I had a wedding to plan.

LILIANA'S POV

The next morning…

The amphitheater was full as everyone came to watch the fight between me and my stepbrother.

“These are the conditions. Should she win the present alpha, all charges against her will be dropped, and she would reclaim her seat as the alpha, but if she loses, she will have to submit herself to judgment.”

The referee then addressed me. “Do you accept?”

I nodded. “I accept.”

The referee nodded back and addressed the audience. “Let the fight begin.”

He left the ground for the two of us.

Tony smiled. “You should have stayed in hiding. I knew you were alive and that that treacherous Gerald didn't kill you, but I left you alone because I believed you knew the difference in our strengths and wouldn't try anything, yet here you are…”

“You talk too much.” I said to him.

“Alright. Tell me, have you ever fought a black wolf?” he asked, throwing me off guard.

His shift was instant, and in his place stood a really gigantic black wolf… the same one I had been seeing in my dream.

He attacked ferociously, pursuing me around the amphitheater, and I ran, trying my best not to get beaten or clawed at.

Let me out…

It was that voice again, and now I believe it was my wolf trying to communicate with me.

I let go of my control, and my wolf came to the forefront. I transformed, though not as swiftly as Tony, and it was even more painful.

My wolf was only half the size of Tony, but still it wheeled around and crashed full-bodied into Tony's black wolf, the two of us becoming a tangle of furs, my silver versus his black.

We went on in that manner, biting and snapping at each other. If not for the information I had about Tony's fight pattern from Gerald, I might have lost even before the fight had progressed, but I was holding my ground.

I made a wrong move, and Tony took advantage of it, crashing his massive fangs on my neck.

I struggled, but he was stronger. Still biting into my neck, he lifted me off the ground and shook me like a rag, my blood spraying everywhere.

I felt my consciousness slipping from me. Faintly I heard the crowd cheering for him, encouraging him to finish off the father killer.

I struggled to stay conscious, still trying to free myself from his powerful jaws, but it was like a vise.

Then I had an idea.

I managed and twisted till I was looking upwards. I waited for the right time, and as soon as I saw it, I took it.

I drove my claws into his left eye, and he roared in pain trying to remove my claws from his eye, but I drove them deeper.

Unable to bear the pain anymore, he let go of me, and I rolled to my paws.

I transformed back into a human, as did he.

He felt his left eye and found it empty, and he screamed in fury and pain. I took the opportunity and rushed at him, blowing that empty eye socket repeatedly until he was flat on the ground.

Even then I didn't stop; I kept on hitting him in the same spot over and over until his face was a bloody mess.

“I yield…. I yield,” he cried out repeatedly, and I stopped.

The amphitheater was silent, as everyone could believe I had won.

I collapsed backward on my back and looked up to the skies.

Somehow I won.
