Chapter 2: You’re to blame!
Chapter 2: You’re to blame!
Ian quickly raced to the hospital causing multiple driviging violations. He had to get to Cassie before she said anything.
“Fuck!!! FUCK!!! How the fuck did this happen!! I told those fucking fools not to cut unless I said so!!!”
Ian arrived at the hospital that evening. As soon as he got to the front, he bombarded with reporters.
“Mr. Keller! Your mother and father-in-law passed away?!”
“Mr. Keller, we're being told it was a tragic accident while on vacation!”
“Mr. Keller is it true your wife had a nervous breakdown!?”
Ian stopped walking, as he slowly turned around, his eyes were bloodshot red. HAD Cassie had a nervous breakdown? In husky tone, he spoke.
“My wife and family are experiencing turmoil at this time. I ask that you all respect our privacy.”
With that, he entered the hospital. Immediately heading to the VIP section as he searched frantically for Cassandra’s room. Finally, he found her. She was sitting on the edge of her bed staring blankly out the window. As Ian walked around the bed slowly, he could see her full face. Her eyes were crimson red and puffy from crying. Her face was pale and dry from the tears, but she didn’t blink….not once. She just stared out the window.
Ian kneeled beside her. His voice and hands shaking as he placed his hand into hers.
“C-Cassie….baby. Don’t worry about anything. I’ll handle everything for your parents funeral. They’ll have nothing but the best I swear!”
Cassandra didn’t move; she didn’t even look Ian’s way. He told himself it was from the shock of losing her parents.
“And I promise! I’ll make the fucking assholes responsible for this pay!”
Cassandra slowly turned her head and stared at Ian. Suddenly, she began laughing hysterically shocking Ian. What could he have possibly said that warranted such a laugh. She continued to laugh, the tears began to stream down her cheeks. Finally, she spoke.
“So you plan on punishing yourself?”
Ian’s eyes widen. What was that supposed to mean?
“What? Cassie baby…what do you me-”
“You said you’re going to make the assholes responsible for my parents deaths pay. So you’ll be punishing yourself?”
Cassandra’s voice was eerily light. Ian’s throat began to dry. Was she trying to say HE was the reason they died and had she told anyone else this?
“Cass honey…why would I punish myse-”
“Because it’s your fault.”
Cassandra’s eyes darkened as her voice became heavy. Staring directly at Ian, pure hatred in her eyes Cassandra finally blinked as she slowly turned her head back to the window. Nervous, Ian stood, he told himself she was just mourning. He would give her some space.
“I don’t need you to handle anything.”
Ian stopped walking and turned towards Cassandra. Walking back, he began to plead.
“Cassie baby…please, let me do this for you. I know how much your parents meant to you.”
Cassandra looked at Ian.
“Then you’ll understand why I don’t want their murderer planning their funeral.”
Ian’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
“Don’t say that!!! I didn’t kill them! The asshole that cut the-”
“Who was the one that had them placed on that cliff? Who was the one that ordered the first and then the second rope to be cut?”
Ian began to frantically explain.
“But I didn’t tell them to cut the third rope! I would have never!!!!”
Ian leaned back down near Cassandra, tears in his eyes now.
“Cassie baby….you know I would have never hurt your parents! I loved them! I just wanted to teach you a little lesson!”
Cassandra looked down at Ian. The man she’d loved since she 15 years old with purely disgusted eyes. A sardonic smile on her face.
“Is that right….hmm….lesson learned. You can go now.”
Ian’s eyes stared nervously at Cassandra. Something inside her broke. Gone was the woman that adored him. Ian needed to make sure Cassandra wouldn't talk to anyone else. He had his assistant order bodyguards to watch her room.
“My wife is very ill right now and in dispair. I don't want anyone bother her. No one goes in or out except you two. I’ve got to take care of something….I won’t be long.”
The bodyguards nodded in response.
The day of the funeral, Cassandra could barely function. With each “I’m so sorry for your loss.” She could feel herself slowly drifting. By now, Ian and his power had already controlled the truth about what happened. Apparently, her parents died while on a "hiking trip". And anyone that got within 100ft of Cassandra, he or his bodyguards were right there. She was trapped.
“Come on baby…let me run you a bath.”
Once home, Ian kneeled down and began taking off Cassandra’s shoes.
“Why’d you do it Ian. Why’d you kill my parents.”
Ian looked at Cassandra with horror in his eyes.
“Cass….I didn’t!! I never ordered the third rope to be cut!! Eric went there to order them to release your parents, and it was too late! I swear I never-”
“You’re going to just keep fucking lying to me you son of a bitch!!!”
Cassandra’s eyes were now bewildered! Her breathing became erratic. Ian jumped back, startled by her outburst. Suddenly, Cassandra pulled up a picture on her phone and showed it to Ian. Tears flowing like waterfalls down her cheeks.
“How can you stand there and lie to me….did you think I was fucking stupid!!!”
Ian looked at the phone with a shocked expression. There, clear as a day was a screenshot of his text history.
\[Do it. Cut the third rope\]
This didn’t make any sense. Ian never sent that text!!! The day he and Eric brought the henchman to the warehouse; they were adamant they received orders from Ian. Thinking they were just trying to evade punishment, Ian chose to ignore their pleas. But now…he could see….the order came from HIS phone.
His hands shaking….Ian tried to reason.
“C-Cass….I swear…..I don’t know how this happened.”
Cassandra’s eyes darkened.
“It happened….because you had an affair…and when you thought your WIFE sent your whore away….something I would have been well within my right to do….you put my parents on a fucking cliff. So even if you didn’t order the cut….You’re to blame!!!!”
Ian’s face completely fell. The words caught in his throat. Cassandra was right, had he not put her parents in that situation to begin with, they would still be here. But his arrogance and his fear of her speaking, overrode his guilt
“Cass…baby….I understand you're mourning. But if you even think about saying this to someone. I'll have you put away due to a mental breakdown.”
Cassandra looked at Ian her face now blank and walked into the bathroom locking the door. After a few moments of silence, Ian knocked on the door.
“Cass…honey….we're going to get through this. I promise….Just do as I say! I only love you!!! So just-”
BANG!!
The loud sound cause Ian to instinctively jump back. What the hell was that? Scared, Ian began knocking on the door frantically.
“Cass!!! Cassie!!! Come on baby…open the door!!!”
Ian began trying to turn the knob.
Locked.
He then began banging his arm and shoulder in an attempt to break the door down.
“Cass!!! Cassandra!!!!!”
Ian began kicking the door ferociously. Finally, the door opened. What he saw next almost made his entire face turn as white as ghost.
There, laying on the floor in a pool of blood was his wife. Cassandra. Deceased immediately due to a gunshot wound to the head.
As the coroner wheeled Cassandra out on the stretcher, Ian was completely beside himself.
“Bring her back!!! Bring her back!!!! Cassandra!!! Come on Cass baby!!!! No!!!! I’m sorry!!!! I’m sorry!!!!”
As his assistant Eric tried to hold him back, there was slight mocking grin on his face.
“She’s gone sir…..she’s gone.”
Cassandra watched the entire freak show as her spirit levitated into the air.
“Well isn’t this just fucking pathetic…NOW you want to act like the aggrieving husband. Dick head.”
Cassandra looked up into the sky.
“Okay God…or whatever….I’ve seen enough of this bullshit! I want to see my parents now!!! Take me to my parents!!!”
