Chapter 382 GOOD AND BAD NEWS
ARTEMIS' POV
"She’s in surgery… They’re trying to stitch her up and perform a blood transfusion," I finally respond, telling him about her. He nods slowly, turning in the direction of the door for a moment. "She’s going to make it, Artemis. I mean, the girl went through hell from everyone, including myself, and she was still able to smile so hard while pointing that blade at herself to save our asses. She’ll make it," he chuckles at the pessimistic idea of Sera not making it through the surgery. In a way, I feel a bit of relief from his words, finding a bit of hope in knowing Sera wasn’t one to ever give up or one to take her death so easily. She might have been scared in that moment, but everything was fine now, so she has to come back to me. I’d kill myself and drag her back to the plane of the living if I have to, give up my Lycanhood to get her back if needed. "You’re not against the idea of her being a witch, are you? I know the entire school was of the impression that she deserved to die. Things might be even worse now that she went berserk," I say, gauging his expression to know his stance on the matter. Had he been amongst the group that persecuted her or not? He doesn’t even think on it, shrugging casually before a small smile plays on his lips. "I’m in love with a girl with an attitude that’s worse than a witch’s. I don’t think anything else can faze me," he says it with a cool tone, yet with eyes that hold so much yearning it's concerning. He looks completely and totally whipped. I never knew he found someone to actually be stable with and not just mess around. I guess he has also changed, just like Jasper and I. A part of me is also desperately curious about it, wanting to pry more on who this girl is, wondering if I know her. Something about it reminds me of Kamila and the note I’ve been carrying around for a while, waiting for whenever I’d see him again to deliver her final request to me. I draw it out of my pocket, raising it towards him before I forget. "This is for you, from Kamila."
His features freeze instantly, and only for a moment, wide eyes shift between my face and the note before he takes it slowly. "She says… to apologize to you for not saying it to your face," I repeat it back to him. I don’t expect him to know that she’s dead; news of her death hasn’t had a chance to be spread from the Wildheart manor with all the death and bloodshed that happened there. I decide not to say anything to him either, guessing she’s already mentioned it all in the note. The doctor steps out of the theatre on cue, and my entire body goes rigid once I see the blood on his hand, something about it making me queasy while knowing it’s her blood. The calmness I barely managed to muster up until this moment evaporates out of my body as I race towards the doctor before anyone else can ask questions. I focus intently on the first few words he says. The surgery was a success, and she's going to be fine—a sweet relief courses through my veins, only for a moment, before he mentions her coma and the uncertainty of when she'll wake up. Everything else that leaves his lips becomes a blur to me; the world around me fades into muffled sounds as I can only hear ringing in my ears.
