Chapter 181 HIS SON

Chapter 181 HIS SON
Bohdi's Pov

My first thought was that he had found the video.

I quickly scrapped the thought. He was just too calm for that. Plus, while it was dark as well, the still frame I was looking at wasn't from that video.

I clicked the play button like the damned choosing his own executioner's sword.

The video started off shaky and plain, as if the videographer had the camera pointed at the ground but it quickly righted and zoomed into what became clear was Maverick's face.

Plus, was that Kane, standing behind him?

I had sent Kane away after over a month from that shooting incident when Maverick had assured me he hadn't even felt anything, not even as much as a ghost following him. I too, hadn't noticed any strange behaviors, no bushes rustling as we passed by, no glimpses of people that had been looking at us until we saw them.

Currently, we were just watching Maverick on his phone or just staring strangely off into space. The sounds in the videos were a little strange though. Humming mostly, and what I could describe as soft dreamy sighs and, at one point, the sound of a smooch. Whoever was filming had blown Maverick a kiss but he was too far away from Maverick to hear any of it.

We had watched what was essentially a blurry video of Maverick just standing there on his phone for more than thirty seconds, when I began to idly wonder what was going on when the video tilted.

Something had distracted whoever was holding the camera. And it was something he didn't like judging by the giant groan of annoyance that followed.

My brows shot up in surprise a few seconds after that. Because it was me. I appeared in the frame, amidst another sigh. I was the reason this person behind the camera sounded like they just rolled their eyes twice.

But I didn't have time to dwell on that. Because now the memory has started to come back to me. I had started to remember what this was, when this was.

And judging by Maverick stiffening beside me, he had too.

I watched, not daring to look up, as the camera panned over to me smiling. I was looking over at Maverick. I now knew where he was.

This wasn't good.

I didn't remember it like that but I basically skipped over to where Maverick was standing at the end of the building. I fought the urge to lurch forward and yank the phone out of my father's hands.

It was dark, the light barely reaching us. But it was enough.

It was enough for me to have seen him from the car when I got down. And it was enough for all of us to see what happened next.

I kissed Maverick.

It was a quick kiss, barely a few seconds but one that left no ambiguity, even with my back to the camera. The person holding said camera gasped and it shook.

Then I pulled back and I glanced around once, then again before Maverick and I started talking.

The video ended.

And I stared at the partial reflection of myself on the screen. There would be nothing else I could say in face of this damning evidence

Father placed the phone face down on the bed and looked up at us, driving us to take a few steps back.

It was quiet in the room. No one had said anything since the video stopped. Where had he even gotten it from? Who was filming us without our knowledge? This raised privacy issues but right now that was not the biggest concern to tackle.

Father leaned back on his hand, watching the two of us, his lips curling up in a snarl. “You stood in front of me and lied to my face, Bodhi. Lied to me and in extension your fianceé.”

Fuck.

Somehow with everything going on, I actually hadn't come around to telling Maverick about Belinda. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Maverick rear back as if he had been slapped. My father paid him no mind.

“Do you know how much her and her family would be disgraced if they saw that, after having announced the engagement?”

“I'm sorry sir,” I said. He raised a hand, the snarl deepening. He didn't seem to want the apology. If I was any younger I might have been in tears.

“You,” he spat, eyes still on me, “get out of here.”

Maverick hesitated then turned around and walked to the door. What else could he do? The sound of his footsteps paused and then the door opened. I could feel his eyes on me as he opened the door and ducked out.

Somehow the atmosphere in the room got heavier. Again, we didn't speak for a whole minute after he left.

“Are you my son, Bohdi?”

Why was he asking me that question like that? I nodded frantically. “Yes sir, I'm your son.”

“And what is it that my son does not do?”

I knew the reply he was for and I swallowed down a lump in my throat before I said it. “Kiss boys, sir,” I answered, my voice still barely audible.

“So are you still my son Bohdi?”
