Chapter 170 CALM BEFORE

Chapter 170 CALM BEFORE
Bohdi’s POV

Bohdi tilted his head, moving to capture my lips. He kissed me softly, pulling a breathy moan from my lips.

Bohdi is still kissing me.

“I've missed you too.”

He pulled away to look at me, his eyes roving my face and I dropped mine. I couldn't let him see, I couldn't.

Bohdi's lips touched mine softly, in a kiss that made my shoulders —shoulders I hadn't noticed were tense— relax. I nibbled on his lips a little, like I knew he liked and he sighed.

Bohdi pulled away, searching for my eyes again. “I’m sorry about your friend.”

For a split second, I wondered if he was talking about Rocky and his father but before I could panic, he continued. “I’m going to make sure the police won't let up. I'm going to stay on this case diligently, don't worry.”

Because Joe can't do it anymore. Because she's dead.

“Maverick, baby,” he breathed.

I didn't know when I looked at him. I wanted to see him say that to me. I wanted to see him call me that.

Oh.

He didn't look like he noticed the darkness that must be within me. He was looking at me like I wasn't broken.

And more than that, he was looking at me like I was a diamond he'd like to wear around his neck; valuable, precious.

I think… I was beginning to… this relationship—

Words began to fall out of my mouth.

I wouldn't even be able to say anything about Rocky's father's death, unless I was tortured probably. I couldn't even think the words talk more of form them into coherent sentences to be said.

But I spoke of everything else, even things I'd said before. I told him of Stone, of Joe or the boy I now had to support. I just kept on talking.

And he just listened. He stood there, hand around my neck, watching me speak and the look on his face didn't falter.

“I don't like you going to the club for now, not while all this is still going on. It's dangerous.”

He's worried about me.

I couldn't help but lean in and place a kiss on his nose. It was dangerous but what other choice did I have?

“I can't. I need the money. Rocky and his Mom really need the money.”

I could see the gears spinning around in Bohdi's head and I was content to just watched him think. Everything had still gone to shit but somehow, confined here with him, made me feel less anxious and evil.

“What if I hire you?”

I blinked. “Hire me? To do what?”

“I— uh,” Bohdi started, glancing around. “You could be my, uh, personal assistant.”

I cocked my head. “Do you need a personal assistant?”

“I do now,” he said, playing with my ear like it was something fascinating.

Bohdi wasn't kidding when he said he didn't know how to do half measures in a relationship. We'd been dating for just days now and here he was, helping me with my boatload of problems and offering me a job he just made up on the spot.

Just how rich was he anyway?

I grab him by the waist amidst pleased squeals, his leg wrap around my waist and take him over to my bed. I leaned over him and placed a soft kiss on his lips, one which he longer by wrapping his hands around my neck.

“Thank you for this, Bohdi, really,” I said, hoping my gratefulness showed through. I wouldn't shove his gift back at him, I needed the money.

I laid down beside him and pulled him closer so our legs were intertwined.

“You're welcome, baby.”

“And I'll be sure to do my job well and not bring our relationship to the workplace.”

He laughed, planting a kiss on my cheek. “I'll pay you even more to bring out relationship to the workplace.”

“Deal,” I said, pleased to hear him squeal and I peppered kisses all over his face.

Bohdi was… really something.

___

The next few days were a rollercoaster of emotions.

I kept trying to reach Bill with no luck. His phone would ring but he wouldn't pick up. I wondered if he was okay. I knew I would find out on Saturday, at Joe's funeral.

Rocky's father had been found almost two days later and it had been so poorly investigated, if it had been anybody else I would demand his case be looked over again.

Rocky certainty didn't care. Sitting by his mother's bedside, he hadn't even reacted when the police told him, accepting their half-assed condolences with even less care.

I'd asked him if he wanted to talk and he told me there was nothing to talk about. I didn't know what to do about the boy.

I also didn't know what to do Bohdi. He had gotten Rocky a house in the city, a three bedroom apartment he waved off saying it was something his father owned.
They had moved in after his mom got discharged and Ricky was able to quickly— too quickly to be organic— get a job at a fruit warehouse a few doors down.

I'd fucked him silly when I'd found out.

My libido had come back after the police visited Rocky, which was good because I found myself in him a lot lately. And I wasn't complaining, not one bit.

Plus my job was easy… probably because it wasn't actually a real job.

I had no office hours and I just helped Bohdi's keep his — our— space clean, help him organize, and keep his schedule. I hadn’t been surprised to find out he had one.

That Sunday, Bohdi and I were getting ready for the funeral. He insisted on coming and Bohdi knew how to get his way.

Even the police were feeling the heat, with them raiding and searching suspicious buildings all around town.

Soon, Bohdi was dressed and went to sit on his bed while I deliberated what looked best mixed and matched because I didn't own a full suit anymore.

But then his voice called out hesitantly, pulling me from a decision between long sleeved shirts.

“Um, Maverick? You should… you should see this.”
