Her Lies Exposed, But At A Cost

Her Lies Exposed, But At A Cost
CHAPTER 184
FYNN'S POV
To say I was angry was understating it.
I was enraged. My blood was boiling over with anger. How dare Kevin double-cross me like this? He was supposed to be a friend.
He had promised to help me but ended up helping himself...and now, he was helping Sayge.
Wait. Something wasn't really adding up. If Kevin was dating Zyliah, why was he willing to help Sayge get back together with her?
He was the godson of Sayge's grandmother, which meant he had a close relationship with the woman, if not with Sayge. Although, they had both revealed they used to be play buddies when they were toddlers.
And Kevin had mentioned his parents were friends with Sayge's grandmother.
Hm. What was his relationship with Zyliah? Why was he trying to help Sayge, and not me, get back together with her?
When my dad informed me, I'd been hoping that a part of him was lying. That it was all a farce so I could keep my solid friendship with Kevin. Alas, the bastard had even boldly confessed to me himself about having an affair with Zyliah.
Now he was helping Sayge. He was willing to step down and help Sayge take over rather than help me, his friend? Such betrayal cut deep.
I emerged from his house, entered my car, and zoomed off, thinking of what to do next. If Sayge had come to ask Kevin for help, it meant Zyliah was no longer living with them.
Zyliah was mine. It didn't matter what anybody else said. She had once loved me, and I strongly believed she would love me again if she gave me the chance to show her just how much I needed her back in my life.
My phone rang.
It was an unknown number. Thinking it was Sabrina, I swiped the red button. For the past week, I've sent money twice. She was pregnant with a child I'd never get to see. A child she would never carry to term.
I was only doing this because of that tape she had. If I could find a way to get that tape, that would be the last Sabrina would ever hear from me...and with my anger towards her right now, I didn't mind making that a literal statement by strangling her to death.
Except maybe I wouldn't.
Going to jail for murder was the worst thing that could happen to anyone, more especially me. I wouldn't kill her, but I'd deal with her seriously.
The phone rang again.
Same unknown number.
I picked. "What?" My tone was testy, and I didn't mind it at all. She deserved it.
"Am I speaking with Fynn Delson?"
My brows furrowed automatically. The voice was young. Who was this? I pulled the phone off my ear long enough to glance at the caller ID.
And it belonged to a female. Who was she?
"Who's asking?" I replied, my tone sounding cautious now.
"If you want to know the truth about your wife's pregnancy, I'll send you an address. Come meet me there and we'll talk."
Disbelief, shock, and confusion overwhelmed me all at once. "What is your name?"
"Can't tell you. Are you coming or not?"
"Uh...if you're doing all of this just to let me know that Sabrina's pregnancy is fake, then I think there'll be no need to meet with you. I already suspected that, and with your call, I've confirmed it. Have a great day."
"The tape," she blurted before I could end the call.
"What?" Apprehension knotted in me a bit. Did she know something? Had Sabrina sold it to my competitors?
"Do you want it or not?" the voice regained confidence.
"Do you have it?"
"You'll have to find out for yourself."
How did she even know about that tape? About Sabrina's fake pregnancy? "Do you know Sabrina?"
"I'm not going to answer any questions until you come, and let's talk in person. So what do you say?"
The tape. That is my concern right now. If this young girl knew about it, then it meant she might know a way to get it for me.
Haven't I just talked about how I would like to find a way to get it? Maybe this was the only opportunity. "Alright. Send me your location and I'll be there."
I briefly thought of bringing security, then thought against it. From her voice, she was young—in her teens—which was baffling. What business did Sabrina have with a teen that the girl knew this much about her...and me?
She could have only gotten my number from Sabrina. Well, I was on my way to go know, I thought to myself the moment my phone pinged. It was the address.
My brows knitted as uncertainty began to rear its head. That place was a rural environment. What was the correlation here?
Noting the address, I changed my course and started in the opposite direction of where I had been headed.
The thought of bringing in security popped into my head again, but I brushed it off. She was a young girl. What could she possibly do to overpower an adult like myself?
It took me the whole of forty minutes, but I got there. From the look of the environment, I wasn't going to step out of my car before I'd be robbed. So keeping my car door still locked, I dialed the number.
She picked up on the first ring. "Are you here?"
"Yes." I mentioned where I was presently, using a dilapidated, abandoned school as a landmark.
"Okay. I'm coming."
The call ended, and five minutes later, give or take, I spotted a slim teenager walking to my car. She knocked on the passenger side.
I unlocked the car.
She entered.
I noticed someone slip into the backseat quietly. A guy.
I looked at her. "Who's he?"
"Backup. I called with his phone," she answered.
She was young. Very young. Even younger than I'd guessed. She should be no more than fifteen or sixteen.
And she was smart. Coming with a guy who looked twice my size. Must be a street thug with his dull-looking skin and smoke-painted lips that I could correctly guess he'd gotten from years of smoking.
"Hi," I greeted, meeting his gaze.
He merely acknowledged with a nod, and I knew that was the most I was going to get out of him.
"So will you tell me your name now?" I shifted my focus to the girl. She had brought me here.
"Courtney Finley." She extended a slim hand.
I accepted the handshake. "You already know who I am." At her nod, I went on. "So how do you know Sabrina? What business do you have with her?"
"I'm pregnant," she said quietly and went silent, gauging my reaction as though she was trying to build suspense.
And it worked because at that point I began to wonder if Sabrina had by any chance collected my sperm and inseminated it in this girl's womb so she could be carrying my child. "Are you her surrogate?"
She shook her head. "No. Your wife said she wanted me to give birth to this baby and sell it to her. She's pregnant too, but she said she can't carry to term because her womb is weak."
That stupid bitch! Trying to play me. "So you didn't agree?"
"Of course I did agree. But I just realized she's not the kind of mother I want to train my child. I don't even think she wants a child. She's just doing this so you can take her back. And I have decided not to sell my baby. I want to raise the child myself, but I don't have the money. I know you do because she wouldn't stop talking about her rich husband. So in exchange for this information and the tape she took of you both having sex, you'll give me money," she negotiated, her expression serious and harboring a maturity that any regular teenager shouldn't have.
But well, getting pregnant at such a young age was enough to make any child mature.
"How much?" I asked.
"Two hundred thousand."
"What the hell?" What? Had she just bargained with me? "I'm giving you twenty thousand, and that's doing you a favor."
The guy from the backseat leaned forward. His face was all stoic, with just the tiniest rise of his brow. I looked to and fro between the girl and the guy.
I heaved a sigh. Now I understood why I had that hunch to get security. This would have been avoided if only I had listened to my goddamn instinct.
"Two hundred thousand is too much, Courtney. Okay, let's go with fifty," I bargained.
"One eighty, and that's final." And from her tone, I guessed it was final.
Stupid Sabrina was costing me more than I'd bargained for. Every single time I regret why I let her deceive me. Zyliah was supposed to be my wife. By now, I should be happily married with kids of our own. Managing the business and providing for my family.
God! I was going to deal ruthlessly with her. She would see. When I was done with her, she would regret ever crossing paths with me.
"Account details," I demanded begrudgingly.
She provided it, and I was about to make the payment when I remembered. "And the tape? Where is it?"
She brought it out of her bag and showed it to me. "Here it is. Make the payment, and once we confirm it, I'll give it to you," she assured.
I pressed the 'transfer' button, and within seconds, I'd received notification of the money transferred successfully.
I showed it to her.
She confirmed it and handed me the little device. "It was nice doing business with you." She was all smiles, almost quaking with excitement.
I didn't share in her joy; rather, anger flamed my insides, burning me up.
As soon as they stepped out of my car, I locked it and drove out of that godforsaken dump, thinking of how to make Sabrina pay.
