Chapter 31
I had hiccuped and wept till I felt like I couldn't anymore. I felt emotional but the fact that Thorne came back from wherever he was simply to rub my back as I wet his shirt made me feel a bit right after. I never expected that I would feel this way once someone from my family discovered me. Jason departed after I chased him out and I didn't want to see him at the time.
“Drink up”, Thorne says while putting forward the bottle of water towards my lips and I swallow it.
He sets the bottle away stares at me and touches my back softly.
“I am not ready to meet them. I thought I was but I am not”, I say
He keeps on caressing my back while he lets me rant.
“Mmh”, I glance up to him and I notice the irritation on his face.
“It's okay, it happened”
“I told Jason a story of how I ended up with you so it could correspond”
“Don't worry”
“Thorne ”, I gaze at him and he remains quiet.
“When am I leaving?”, I escape from his embrace and wipe my tears.
“You will know on the day”, I turn to him.
“Why?"
“Just to be safe”
“You think I would tell someone where I am heading and when? To whom?”
“Thorne I just...”
“Mmh”, He pulls me to his chest.
“We have a doctor's appointment in an hour”, he announces.
“I don't think or still believe the possibility”, I reply and he maintains quiet.
I lift my head and look to him then bend to him to offer him a kiss and he replies to it. He takes me and sits me on his lap as I wrap my legs around him and I moan quietly. I break the kiss.
“I love you too Thorne Nathaniel ”, he sighs and pulls me to lay on him.
“I love you so much”, my heart skips a beat as I hear him speak those words.
“Let's go. Wash your face and wear your shoes”, he says.
“Where are we going?”
“I have something to show you”, he says and I get off him and I walk to the bathroom to wash my face.
I finish and I step out of the bathroom I wear my shoes and he looks up to me before he gets from the bed and we walk out.
“My handbag”, I gently say “You won't need it”, I frown while glancing at him.
I wonder where we are headed we arrive downstairs and we cut via the kitchen. This is the second time I have been in this kitchen since I came to live here. We get out on another door and it leads to the garage. An automobile flashes its lights and he walks to the passenger side opens the door and I get inside. After that, he locks the door walks to the driver's side, and gets in. The garage door opens as he starts the automobile. I wonder where we are headed without the driver this time. The automobile goes out of. the garage and he drives off. I sit there in quiet while he is driving. It's unusual to see Thorne driving previously. I don't know if he enjoys it or not but recently he has been. Even by the time he arrived in Osogbo to get me, he was driving himself. I was startled trust me. Silence reigns within the automobile when it is traveling. I won't inquire where we are heading but will see when we get there.
as told
As Jason made his way home after leaving the Nathaniel residence he didn't feel well knowing his sister was left there. She was 20 for Christ's sake for her to be married to a man who is as old as Thorne is. Yes, Thorne was older than him and he didn't like that his sister was married to him. He felt like he had her captive and she couldn't flee. That she was terrified to leave him or felt like she owed him for saving her. Well, now she has him. Jason that is who will save her and bring her back home. Where she belongs. It still feels a bit unreal to Jason that he has discovered his sister. He wasn't sure what to do for now but bringing Kaitlin home was one of the things that needed to be done before anything else.
Within no time he reached home and parked the car in front. He gently got out of the car and made his way inside the home. He could hear his mother's chuckles and his father's voice from the door. He reaches the living room where his parents are huddled up under a fleece on this very hot day. He sometimes didn't comprehend them but then again they understood each other. That is all that mattered between two married folks right?
“You came back early,” His mother remarked.
“I got done quickly”, he adds and throws himself on the couch.
Concern is written all over his mother's face as he sees the situation her son is in.
“What is wrong Jason?”, His father wonders.
Jason takes a long breath in and sighs.
“Nothing Dad”, He says.
“It cannot be nothing when you look this worn out. What happened? Is that the case? You discovered another dead end?”
“No, I solved it. Rather too quickly”, He says.
Don is captivated by what Jason is saying.
“What did you find?”, He asks.
“I found Kaitlin”, Jason says and he remains silent. Silence settles in between the three of them.
“Jason, what do you mean you found Kaitlin? My kid is alive?”
Jason glances at his mother who seems vulnerable.
“Yes, ma. She is all grown and is married too”, Jason says.
“Oh my God. Where is she? Where is my baby Jason?”
“She didn't want to come but she will”, Her mother's face collapses at hearing that. She stands up.
“I need to rest” " she says as Don helps her balance before she goes off with her face full of tears.
Don remains behind wanting more on where Kaitlin could be.
“Where is she and why didn't she want to return home?”, Don asks.
“I did mention that she is married”
“I don't care, our daughter should be here right now. After everything...”, Jason interrupts him.
“Kaitlin is married to Thorne's dad. She is Thorne's wife”, Don's face falls.
“You mean...”
“Yes, she doesn't want to come. I think he is holding her hostage. Holding her back against her will now. Who wouldn't want to come home after being kidnapped and away from your family for years? She is 20! For goodness sake!”, Anger brews inside Jason as he spits those words.
Don is in astonishment but at the same time, he feels intrigued.
“Let's leave her for now then we will go and fetch her. She is not married to that boy until that boy pays the Bride price”, Don says and Jason agrees to his father.
“I need to rest”, Jason says and he goes up the stairs.
