Chapter 20
NARRATED
Jason Brown is a little committed individual to the movement of attempting to minimize the crime rate in Nigeria yet it seems to be rising daily. He has been in the force since he was 18 and the motive for that was to discover his lost sister. He discovered enthusiasm in it and has been committed to it. He has never captured the big fish in most operations simply these small-time gangsters that are hanging about. It has been a year since he has worked on exclusively trafficking cases and the majority of the time he solves them. 80% in solving them the victim is already discovered dead. Not that he is not capable of finding them alive but the majority of them are slain and put in bushes too swiftly before they are ever located. A year or two after his sister disappeared they relocated from Small Town to Abuja in a way as to attempt to recover and also get away from danger. His mother didn't take it well at the absence of her daughter as What ifs came around. What if she was transported to another nation or what if she had perished? When Jason saw Kaitlin and was introduced to him. He received a glimmer of hope. Something in him indicated he should keep a tight check on her and should find finds of her. What confused him the most was Thorne's unexpected marriage. He always knew that Thorne's aura he couldn't fathom but it was always carrying something sinister of some sort. How did a man his age get fortunes that rapidly? At 27 it didn't seem so conceivable to him. Where did he receive the money? Hstartsrt up to be a billionaire at his age. Just via property development? It didn't seem too real for him thus he always suspected there may be a loophole. A man who travels with plenty of guards raises alarms to him at times and now there is an additional cause to spy around him and uncover that loophole.
“I am going to find you MaBrown ”, He says while glancing at his little sister's photo before she was abducted.
KAITLIN
I have been trapped in here for a couple of hours and I have been trying the door with no success. This is not good and I don't like it. From the man who may be nice, he undoubtedly can be callous as well. Why can't I go and assist out at the police station? I had been locked up since morning and now it is nighttime. I am sitting on the bed with my legs up and my arms over my knees when the door unlocks and opens and the lights turn on. He closes the door.
“Mmmh”
“Why did you lock me in here?”
“You needed some time off”
“I don't need time off.”, he remains silent and approaches near me.
“I don't want you to get hurt. You are a threat to bringing a whole enterprise down”, I breathe in and out.
“What do you mean?”, He glances at me.
“There is a lot at stake here. Money and power and this enterprise have been functioning for years. Now if you are questioned by the police on how you were taken and eventually landed up in my hands it will be a threat. A large one and could bring down all the hard work done here and I also...”, He comes and places his hand under my chin and makes me look at him.
“I don't want to end up killing you just to save myself. That's not what I want”, he says. I swallow.
“You mean that you are involved in my abduction?”
“No, but I am involved in other girls' abduction. I sell them for money”, he lets me go and I feel shivers go down my spine.
“Every crime out there I am responsible for it but something about you just draws me to you”, I swallow. I am now afraid.
“That's why you don't want me going to Jason because I will lead him to you”, he nods.
“Smart”
“Why are you doing this? What did those gals do to you”, he keeps his silence.
“Nothing, I just want every parent to feel the pain”
“Of what Thorne?! Do you know how awful it is to be locked up and raped every single day just for you to desire Death or be saved? Do you?!”, I felt tears running down my cheeks and I got on my knees on the bed and started hitting him.
“You are such a monster!”, I can't believe it!
He grips my arms firmly and I sob.
“I am not a monster to you Kaitlin! Your father doesn't want you. He sold you it's his fault you were raped all those years and I saved your ass and gave you everything with ease. He didn't want you and by selling you he acquired wealth. Your family doesn't want you I want you!”, I threw myself on the bed and I sobbed after he said that.
“I am not going to lose all of this Kaitlin. It's either you stick with me because the only way out of here is a coffin and I won't be firing the trigger. We are married let's take it like married people”, he goes to the door.
“Why would my father not want me? You are lying”, I said softly.
“Am I? You are a product of your mother's affair”
“Get out!", He pounded the door and I wept.
I couldn't comprehend. Why would my parents not want me and how did he know all of this I simply sobbed and pulled a pillow to keep near to me.
*
I fell asleep from the time I stopped weeping and was awakened by sensing someone's presence in the room. I felt a bit uneasy. I opened my eyes and sat up on the bed and massaged my heavy eyes.
“How are you feeling?”, I looked at the sofa where he was seated.
“How can you ask me that?”, I respond gently.
He retains his quiet.
“Do you even care how I feel?"
“I do”, I am captivated by his answer.
“Why? Why are you doing all of this?”
“You will never comprehend and you don't have to" “To think all of these things here are tears of people. How many individuals have you killed?”
“Many to count”, he adds and I feel cringy at the moment.
“How do you know about my family?”, I reply and he sighs.
“I have known the Browns for years. I didn't know they had a daughter”
“How do you know whether they are my family?", I am not sure why to trust anymore.
“I did some digging after the lunch we had with them. You acted odd and so as Jason. I suppose he knows that you are his somehow that's why he called you in simply to check everything and then take me down in the process”
“This is wrong, Thorne. You can't toy with people's lives like this”
“Mmmh”
“Did you take me from the club because you knew them?"
“No”, he doesn't say anything further.
He rises from the couch and approaches my way.
