Chapter 11 Tomorrow, Miss Sexy
Lydia's Point of View
“This is the truth…..” I repeated Yanni's last words, and although she had left the hospital to get me a new dress, the story she'd explained to me was terrifying, and I kept asking myself if it was really true, and if that was how my parents really died.
———
I spent one more week in the hospital, but neither Justin nor Harridan came to visit me. The nurses said that Justin was busy with work, but he never forgot to drop gifts for me every day. As for Harridan, he sent me daily morning messages and regular wishlists, because he couldn't be with me physically.
Venus and Saturn stood by my side telling me all sorts of stories…. and lies. They didn't know who Justin and Harridan were, but after they found out through Yanni, they searched the internet for hours and informed me that the guys were too busy because Mr. Malcolm Magnus, the family's patriarch, was back in town.
Venus and Saturn were the perfect distraction I needed to forget about my pain, and whenever I ask why they're so nice to me, Venus would say it's because I owe him money, and he wants me to remember and pay him back, while Saturn claims she was returning a favor.
At first, I was confused, wondering what their endgame was, but Yanni informed me that Venus and Saturn are best friends who passed through long-term domestic violence and bullying at the hands of their family and friends, and I was the one who singlehandedly saved them. Ever since, we became a tight trio, giving ourselves cute pet names. I even heard Saturn mentioning something about relocating and living with me till I get back on my feet.
“All of this is nice, but will they also disappear like my parents…” I let out a shaky breath and stared at the white ceiling above me.
The truth. Such a simple word, yet it had shattered the little things I thought I knew about myself.
My parents were kind-hearted, unfortunately, they didn't die peacefully. They didn't get sick. They didn’t leave me because fate was cruel. They were cornered until the only escape left was death.
“The alliance!” According to Yanni, Justin’s father proudly leads the alliance, and Harridan’s family supports them.
My stomach twisted. No matter how many times I replayed Yanni's words, it still felt unreal. Like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.
“Is this why Justin and Harridan are so nice to me? Are they treating me nicely to keep me down so I wouldn't get my revenge? Are they doing this to inherit the last of my parents’ wealth?” I pondered for hours, giving myself a headache.
A soft knock pulled me from my thoughts.
The door cracked open, and Saturn slipped inside with a cup of iced coffee she smuggled past the nurses. Venus followed behind her, dramatically balancing a bouquet of fake flowers he stolen from the hospital gift shop.
“Good morning, memory-less hybrid. It's me, your favorite mistake,” Venus announced with a grin.
I sighed. “I thought you said you’d stop calling me that.”
“I lied,” he said proudly, and I shook my head in resignation.
They were chaos wrapped in human skin: loud, nosy, and annoyingly present, but right now, they were my muse. And although I didn't remember how I helped them, I was grateful for their undying friendship.
Saturn handed me the coffee. “You looked like you were drowning in your thoughts again. Drink. Sugar helps with trauma.”
“Does it?” I asked.
“No,” Venus answered. “But it tastes good.”
I laughed quietly, my chest loosening just a little. But when the laughter faded, the silence left too much space for the truth again. Most of the tubes on my body had been removed, bandages and IV drip were all that was left, and the doctor confirmed I'd soon be discharged.
“Why are you guys really doing all this? You come every day. You feed me. You make me laugh. You… stay. It doesn’t make sense. Is this all because of one past good deed?” I'd asked them this question multiple times, but seeing all they brought for now and how they cared for me touched me and I asked again.
Venus arched a brow. “Are you trying to get rid of us? Is this your polite way of saying we’re annoying?”
Saturn nudged him. “Ignore him. But to answer your question…” She took a seat at the edge of the bed. “Lydia, you're our best friend, and if it were us passing through a similar condition, I'm certain that you'd never leave our side.”
I sighed, I've been told this countless times, but it had done little to answer the question in my mind. I knew they were hiding something from me. Something else I'd done.
“Fine, I believe you. But remember, the doctor said filling me up on what happened in the past can serve as a muscle memory, and help me regain my memory faster,” I said to them, and acted like I'd given up on the question.
Saturn and Venus exchanged a cryptic look, contemplating whether they should tell me the truth. Saturn looked reluctantly, while Venus shrugged his shoulders. Finally, Saturn turned to face me.
“I know that Aunty Yanni told you about how you saved us from domestic abuse. The one most people don't know is how you rescued us from a fire accident on our first meeting!”
I blinked. “Fire accident? I saved you? How?”
Saturn exhaled slowly. “We first met five years ago. We were… trapped in a burning faculty in college, and no one could enter because of the smoke. The firefighter had not arrived, and we thought we'd die, until….”
Venus’s jaw tightened, his usual humor fading. “Until you walked into the fire for us. Literally.”
My eyes widened. “I-I did?”
“You dragged Saturn out first,” Venus continued. “You were bleeding, coughing from the smoke. I thought you were going to die. Then you came back for me. You didn’t even hesitate.”
Saturn’s eyes softened. “So now? We stay for you. Until you can remember… or until you don’t need us anymore.”
Warmth pricked behind my eyes. Before I could speak, Venus suddenly clapped his hands loudly.
“Anyway! Enough of this emotional nonsense. I found something way more interesting.”
He unlocked his phone and shoved the screen into my face.
A picture of Justin… and Harridan… arguing aggressively in the hospital's parking lot.
“What-? When was this?”
“Yesterday,” Venus said smugly. “Apparently they were both here last night and all hell broke loose.”
“You are so beautiful that you attracted two wealthy admirers,” Saturn added.
“They’re not….” I paused. “They’re not my admirers.”
Venus smirked. “Lydia… sweetheart… two grown, powerful Alpha heirs are fighting in public because you’ve lost your memories.”
I know they meant it in a good way, but their words reminded me of my parents’ death. The sons of my parents’ murderer were interested in me for no valuable reason.
“I can either ignore them or use them to find out the truth and carry out my revenge.”
At that moment, a message came in on my phone. When I looked at the screen, it was from Harridan, and I also had a missed call from Justin.
