Fighting The Witch

Fighting The Witch
Cassian's POV

I started up from the floor, and I coughed. My chest felt heated up for reasons I don't know. I was still trying to get a grip on myself when I raised my gaze to find the witch. She threw her arm in the air in our direction, and a huge ball of fire burst out from nothing, coming for me, Adrian, and Seralyn.
Hell no! I started fast for the floor to reach for Seralyn. I could trace away because I was faster, and even if I am cut up in it, I can heal, but not Seralyn. I had to get to her before the ball of fire reached her.
Adrian, who was nearer to her, beat me to it. He lifted her from the floor, tracing away with her.
I clenched my teeth, a slight bitter growl slipping from my lips as I followed traces of him tracing her around the room until he finally traced her out of the hall.
Why did he get to her before me? She was supposed to be mine to protect. Mine. The scorching heat that approached me, burning its way for me, reminded me of my current problem, and I rolled on the hard, cold stone floor from the attack.
I jumped up to my feet immediately after. The witch stood at the edge of the line of the broken hex, her black coat consuming every inch of her except her small baby head. The monstrous thing was even a teenager. Or she must have stolen that face. You never can tell with those black-eyed, monstrous things called witches. Adrenaline pumped violently through my veins at the thought that the bloody thing must have stolen a kid's face. My claws folded into tight fists, pulsing, hungry for her blood.
As soon as Adrian left with Seralyn, she swirled her hands around, and a large, green, void-like hole materialized before her.
I could tell what it was just from the swarming, pulsing void. A portal. The bloody thing was trying to go after them.
I couldn't fucking care about Adrian. But she wouldn't get Seralyn again.
I searched around for something, and I stumbled upon a small wooden cabinet by the large stone walls. I went for it quickly, and I swung it fast for her with every strength in my arms.
She was about to step into the void when the cabinets slammed against her, throwing her into the air. Good. I grinned at myself.
I traced to her, and I jumped on the cabinet as gravity dragged it into its bosom. It propelled me into the air, just before the witch. I swung my fists at her head. Now she would never dare to mess with me and anyone and anything I call mine.
Just as my fists were about to crash against her head. She fizzled into black smoke and melted away into space. The cabinet crashed against the floor with a thunderous noise that splitted the room.
I threw my eyes around searching for her. And I spotted her behind me. I charged for her, swinging my fist for her head. I was going to get her this time. I was faster than her. No witch came close to a vampire’s speed, not to talk of mine.
But surprisingly, just before my fist could land on her head again, she melted into a trail of black smoke. I grunted, clenching my teeth tight as I searched for her again.
“I don't want to hurt you, vampire. You are going to be my slave, and I don’t like to hurt my things.” I heard her giggle behind me and whirled around to her.
“Too bad, I can never be your slave. And too bad I am going to kill you right now.” I made her wry grin.
She was sooner to have her neck twisted from my fingers than to have me as her slave. I grunted as I lunged for her. This time, I put more into my speed, and I moved almost at the speed of light.
I grinned down at her when my fingers closed around her brittle neck. I stared down at the teenage face she’d stolen, watching her writhe in pain as I strangled her. She held my fingers tight, pulling, her eyes shut tight as she struggled with every ounce of strength to free herself from my hold.
“Now, who is becoming a slave to whom?” I sneered.
“Cassian, look out behind you,” I heard Adrian yell behind me. What was he saying? I grunted. I had this under fucking control. He seemed to have returned from dropping off Seralyn. Perhaps to help me. But I don't need him. I don't ever do it.
“Shut up,” I yelled back at him over my shoulders. I swung my fist at the witch. The teenage face groaning and struggling in pain under my fist hurt my conscience a bit, but I knew underneath was probably a millennium-old witch disguised as a teenager. Witches were like that, hiding their monstrosity beneath a calm, gentle, innocent disguise when they were far more monstrous underneath.
My fist was about to crush the witch’s teenage skull when suddenly, she stopped struggling, and the pain-stricken look on her face melted to a sly, mischievous grin. What the hell!
It bothered me at first. My thrown fist stilled midair for a moment. But then I shrugged my shoulders. Perhaps she wanted to die smiling. My fist was about to crush against her head when she melted into a trail of black smoke again.
The hair on my nape snapped erect. I jolted alert instantly. Someone was behind me. I spun around, but then small, cold fingers reached for my neck, because the witch was suddenly behind me. How did she...?
I tried to move away from her thin claws, but somehow I couldn't. Every inch of me froze rigid on the spot, heavy like a stone, especially my lips.
My eyes dropped to my feet fast, and I saw it. My lips curled in a painful sneer—magic. The black, evil-like shape of smoke curled around my feet. She seemed to be binding me with it.
Her fingers clasped around my neck, cold and gentle. I sneered as I stared down at thin, long, childlike fingers. What does she hope to do with them?
I was soon to find out that they possess unimaginable strength because of the magic that coursed through me when she snapped my head up. She was floating, so she could look down into my eyes, her obsidian green eyes piercing through mine as if reaching for something in me.
She was—she was indeed reaching for my soul. I felt her inside my head, felt her inside my mind. Feel her delving deeper into my consciousness. Her lips curled in some evil smile as she kept on.
The naughty twinkle in her eyes confirmed what she was doing, and for the first time in my life, I felt my heart slamming hard against my chest. She was fucking enchanting me. And once she was done, I would be at her mercy. I would be her slave until she dies.
I tried to fight it, pushing her back with my mental energy. It seemed it wasn't enough, because I suddenly went still, and my mind and thoughts froze. She's gotten hold of my soul.
