Chapter 134 Chapter 133

Chapter 134 Chapter 133
Harper POV

For a while… neither of us moves.

The world feels quieter now.

Like everything that just happened somehow pressed pause on everything else.

My breathing is still uneven, my body warm despite the cool night air, and Logan is still close—closer than he’s ever been without pulling away.

That’s what I notice first.

He hasn’t moved.

Hasn’t stepped back.

Hasn’t put distance between us like he always does.

Instead, his forehead rests lightly against mine, his hand still at my waist, his thumb tracing slow, absent circles against my skin like he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it.

“Still cold?” he murmurs quietly.

A small laugh escapes me.

“No.”

His lips curve slightly.

“Good.”

There’s a softness in his voice I haven’t heard before.

Not teasing.

Not cocky.

Just… real.

I study him for a second, taking in the way his breathing is still uneven, the way his eyes aren’t as guarded as they usually are.

“You’re different right now,” I say quietly.

His eyebrow lifts slightly.

“Different how?”

I hesitate.

Because saying it out loud feels dangerous.

“Like you’re not trying to run.”

The words hang there between us.

For a second, I think I’ve ruined the moment.

But Logan doesn’t pull away.

If anything… his hand tightens slightly at my waist.

“I’m not,” he says quietly.

That surprises me.

“Why?”

He exhales slowly, like he’s trying to figure out the answer himself.

“Because if I move right now,” he admits, “I think I’ll regret it.”

My chest tightens.

That wasn’t what I expected him to say.

I look up at him, really look at him this time.

And for once—

He doesn’t look like the confident, untouchable hockey captain.

He looks… unsure.

Human.

It does something dangerous to me.

“So don’t move,” I whisper.

His eyes meet mine again.

And something shifts.

Softens.

Then, just like that, the tension breaks slightly.

Logan smirks.

“You realize this is going to make it very hard for me to leave.”

I roll my eyes softly.

“You’re the one who left your own party.”

“Worth it.”

That answer comes too fast.

Too easy.

And it hits harder than it should.

I shake my head slightly, trying to hide the way that makes me feel.

“You’re going to regret that in the morning.”

“Probably.”

“And you still did it.”

“Definitely.”

I laugh quietly, but my fingers are still lightly gripping his hoodie, like I’m not quite ready to let him go either.

There’s a pause.

A quiet one.

The kind that doesn’t feel awkward.

Just… full.

Logan brushes his thumb along my side again, slower this time.

More absent.

Like he’s just feeling me there.

“You okay?” he asks.

I nod.

“Yeah.”

Then I add, softer,

“Are you?”

That question makes something flicker across his face.

Something more complicated.

But it’s gone almost as quickly as it appears.

“Yeah,” he says.

I don’t know if I believe him.

But I don’t push.

Not right now.

Instead, I lean into him slightly, just enough to feel the steady rise and fall of his chest.

And for a moment—

We just exist there.

No expectations.

No pressure.

Just us.

Which might be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because if this is what being with Logan feels like—

Walking away from him later is going to hurt.

A lot more than I’m ready for.
