Chapter 6
Allison POV
Laying flat on my back, I looked across at my alarm clock, it was 7:00 AM and I could see the sunray fighting its way through the blinds. I hardly slept last night, I tried but I kept twisting and turning, uneasy and worried about the relationship between Toniann and me. I confessed everything last night, I told her the truth, that I never really got over Gary and I've been hooking up with random men ever since and Hussain accidentally is one of them. I know I should have told her, she's like a sister to me, and I think that's what hurt her the most, now I am stuck in bed, wondering if she's on the other side of the door or if she had already left, our friendship was now on the verge of ruining, because of me.
Crouching in the middle of the bed, I hugged my knees, nervous about facing Toniann... If she is still here. Sliding across the cotton bedspread, I walked towards the door, pressing my ear against it, listening, but I hear nothing, maybe she was gone. Turning the knob slowly, I peeped through the opened crack, but the sofa was empty, and I didn't see her bag or belongings. Tiptoeing, I carefully strolled into the kitchen, peeping around corners, but I saw no signs of her.
"Looking for me?"
Alarmed, I clutched my chest, turning around to face her, "Good God, Toniann, you scared me out of my skin,"
"I knew you would have hidden in your room and wait until I was gone, so I hid over there," she looked over her shoulders pointing at a dark corner, whenever the blinds aren't pulled up, it can be a good hiding spot.
"Toni, I didn't mean for it to happen, I swear, I tried everything to get him to leave me alone, but he won't, and that is when he came with this sex contract thing," I grumbled,
"That's what it is? A contract so you guys can continuously have sex?" She marched towards the laptop, flipping it open,
"Yea, but I promise... I didn't even read it, in fact, let me delete—"
"No, I want to read it," she muttered, standing behind the chair where she sat, I nodded in agreement,
"It says here," she continued, "You would be paid—"
"Paid? He didn't mention that."
"Three hundred thousand," she added, gasping in disbelief,
"What? Annually?" I leaned in, narrowing my eyes on the screen,
"No, bi-weekly,"
"What?"
Connecting my laptop to the printer, I watched as Toniann pull the four sheets from the appliance, grinning ear to ear.
"Sign it," she shoved them onto my chest "What?"
"Sign it,"
"No. No, I am not signing to be someone's paid whore,"
"You've been giving it up free anyways, plus this kind of money can make you leave Venice's filthy diner,"
"No, Toniann, what kind of a person comes up with a sick idea like this? It was just a one-night stand."
"Yea, Literally, couldn't you two banged in a bedroom or something, I've never seen two people stand up and have sex,"
"I… are you sure the house that the party was held in his?"
"Yes… no, why?" She chuckled nervously,
"I don't know," I sat down, placing the documents down next to me. "That night. It's like he wasn't familiar with the place either."
"Well, if you sign the papers, you will get to know,"
"I am not signing those papers Toniann, Hussain was a mistake, and I have learned my lesson," I grabbed the documents, tearing them apart,
"Well, since you're not going to sign them, that means you’re still working for that witch, and you have about five minutes to get to work," Toniann sneered,
Rushing to the bathroom, I showered quickly, slipped into my uniform, grabbing my handbag from the sofa handle, "Will you be here when I get back later?" I cried out to Toniann, who was in the kitchen blending a smoothie,
"Yes, and I'm going to clean the apartment for you, I suffer from Entomophobia you know?"
"What's that?" I clasped my hand around the doorknob,
"The fear of insects and I am certain your apartment is their nest," she chuckled loudly, "Also I am going to get car my fixed today, hopefully,"
"See you later Toni," I giggled lowly,
The streets weren't at its busiest, the traffic was light, and the pedestrians were few, "Good morning pretty lady, I thought I missed you," Sam slowed down at my feet,
"Sam," I opened the cab door, "I am late, you have to press on it today,"
"I got you," he smiled brightly, nodding at me in the mirror.
Arriving in front of Venn’s, I touched my pocket, realizing I left my cell phone at home, if Toniann needs anything she will just have to figure it out herself, pushing the diner doors, I paced quickly inside, trying to blend in with the waitress who was already here. But it was too late, everyone had their eyes fixed on me,
"What's… what's going on?"
"It's Venice, she knows you're late and wants you in her office as soon as you arrive," Mildred whispered,
Rolling my eyes, I marched towards Venice's office, tapping lightly on the door,
"Who is it?" She groaned in annoyance,
"It's me, Allison. I was told that you wanted to see me."
"That was ten minutes ago Allison," she snarled,
"I can explain—"
"You can come in... Close the door behind you,"
Turning the office doorknob, I opened the door, eyeing Venice who was seated behind her untidy desk, filled with stacks of papers,
"Have a seat," she muttered, "You're late, twice this month," Venice added, not shifting her gaze from desktop before her,
"I know. I am sorry, it won't happen—"
"No, it won't, I am sure you read the employment contract before you signed it, late coming isn't tolerated here,"
"So, you're going to fire me?"
"Of course not," she glanced at me through the top of her glasses,
"Ok" I chuckled nervously, "because I thought that—"
"You're on bathroom duty," she leaned back in the chair, staring at me, "I mean if you want to come the same working hours as Harry, why not do his job for him?"
Feeling the vibration in my bag, brighten up my day, Toniann must have thrown my phone in for me,
"Ok, no problem," I stood up from the chair, Opening my bag, searching for my cellphone. Seeing the white documents, I froze, it was the contract, Toniann must have printed another copy while I was showering,
"This will continue until I release you back to your normal duties" She added, "but for now, you can find gloves, mops... What you need in the back,"
"No," I mumbled,
"No?" She removed the glasses off her face, "I don't understand. I gave you orders; I am expecting you to follow through,"
"No, I won't do it, you're nothing but a little bitch who doesn't know how to run a business, look around you Venice, this place is going to crumble to the ground soon, And I hope when it does, you're in it... I quit,"
Storming out of the building, I leaned against the wall, proud of what I just did, I don't know why did Venice suddenly hate me, but I don't care, I might be out of a job, but I am free, "I quit," I whispered,
"I quit!" I giggled loudly skipping into the streets,
Fanning down a cab, as it drives by, "Good morning, where can I take you today," the driver smiled at me, "Take me home," I sat behind him, closing the door softly, "No, in fact, take me to Myers... Myers Corp,"
Taking a pen from my bag, I stared down at the documents, a part of me wanted to sign it, but another part of me didn't, simply because I think I will look like a gold digger, a cheap one at that. Giving the driver a twenty dollar note, I rushed up the steps of Myers Corp, bolting into the lobby and towards the golden elevator,
"Come on," I banged against the metal doors, "Open, you damn stupid thing,"
"Hello, excuse me, what are you doing?" A redhead raised her eyebrows staring at me,
"I need—I need to speak to Mr. Myers,"
"Ok, first of all, that elevator is for VIP usage only, regulars... Like you, use the stairs or the elevator over there," she pointed in the corner "By the way, do you have an appointment?"
"No, just tell him it's me,"
"Darling, Mr. Myers sees no one without an appointment, and the next available slot is... Give me a minute to check here, right, Two weeks from today, is that ok? Great, how about you give me your name and—"
"I know you can hear me," I spoke loudly, staring into the lens of a camera attached to the wall, "What are you doing?" The redhead questioned,
"I know you can hear me; you probably even saw me the very moment I stepped foot on the premises, but hear what I came here because today, I told my boss she is bitch, and I came here to tell you something as well. I signed it," I hoisted the documents upwards "I signed the contract.”
