Chapter 26 - HEA
Chapter 26 - HEA
Anara woke up because she couldn't breathe.
She opened her eyes and tried to roll over to move the weight on her abdomen. Only to gasp as Ethan's arm tugged her back to his naked chest and nuzzled his nose in her neck, deep in sleep.
Dravian on her other side instantly felt loss of touch in his sleep and shifted closer, his hair tickling her cheek as his massive arm wrapped tighter around her torso.
"Guys," she wheezed before trying to wiggle out from between the two men.
After a fifteen minute struggle, she finally managed to get off the bed. For a second, she stopped to smile at the two men in her bed, now hugging each other to sleep as if compensating for loss of her. Her MSD lay forgotten in a drawer since they started sleeping in the same bed.
She padded to the bathroom to freshen up for the day before wearing Ethan's huge shirt over her underwear. She went to the kitchen passing the hallway, "Morning, Voltar." Her fingers grazed the weapon that Dravian had hung outside the room to be able to reach fast in time of need. It glowed slightly in response.
She started coffee for herself, made protein shake for Ethan, and began juicing some oranges for Dravian who had found the Terran fruit almost addictive.
She was making pancakes when Ethan padded in bare-chested, his grey sweats hanging loosely around his hips, "Mmm, you are a vision in the morning," He hugged her from behind, placing his chin on top of her head fondly.
"It's almost noon." She laughed as she flipped the pancake from the pan to the plate with stacks of warm pancakes.
"In that case, good afternoon," Dravian's voice boomed from behind as he walked in the kitchen wearing a fluffy white robe with matching bunny slippers.
"Zor kas'at, you're worth getting abducted for," he pecked her cheek before grabbing his fresh juice and savouring it sip by sip like it was aged red wine.
Ethan moved to set the table as Dravian turned on the TV. Another thing he had made a habit of in the past month since surviving alien abduction, was morning news.
The three settled around the kitchen island for breakfast.
Anara scrolled through the reports of her recent case as she took a spoonful of her overnight oats, she was back to work. Dravian frowned as he saw the news about some British prince dating some Earl's daughter. Ethan ate with military swiftness and focus. A comfortable silence followed.
Until, Dravian turned off the TV abruptly and turned to his pancakes, the frown persisted.
"What happened?" Ethan asked.
"Nothin'." Dravian did not meet his eyes.
"Ana, something is bothering Drav but he is not saying what." Ethan instantly told on him making Dravian glare at him, "Everything is fine, let a prince have his breakfast in peace."
Anara looked between the two. She was working but her ears were on her men. She sighed softly as she focused on Dravian, "You miss home." A statement.
Silence.
"How did you-" Ethan started confused at how she reached that conclusion so fast and so certain.
"I am a detective," She said deadpan as she gave them both a look before focusing on Dravian who hadn't met their eyes or spoken a word since.
"You don't have to talk about it. But, know that we are here for you." She spoke softly, kindly.
Dravian didn't respond, eyes downcast like the pancakes held the secrets of the world.
"That's what lovers are for." Ethan refilled Dravian's juice.
Dravian's massive shoulders drooped, "It's jus-" He stopped, contemplating.
"Take your time. It's my weekend." Anara smiled even softer.
"No missions await me either," Ethan shrugged matching Anara's energy.
Dravian finally looked up, "You two make it really hard to keep the macho act, you know that." he tried to sound annoyed but it came more affectionate.
"You were never macho, your highness." Ethan smirked sipping his shake.
"Yeah, you've always been more of a diva." Anara smirked as well.
It worked. Dravian's mood instantly shifted, dramatic offence, followed by a gasp, "Excuse you?"
Ethan and Anara looked pointedly at Dravian head to toe. His showered hair wrapped in the fluffy towel with bunny ears. His furry robe and matching bunny slippers as he sat legs crossed while he held the juice glass like a champagne flute.
Quickly he uncrossed his legs and placed the glass on the kitchen island, "There is nothing wrong with a man taking care of himself."
"Didn't say there was any," Ethan shrugged hiding his smirk behind his glass as his eyes met Anara's.
Dravian grumbled something in Zorkis under his breath. Anara took a deep breath, done teasing him, "In all seriousness, whatever it is. You won't ever find judgment from us." She spoke gently.
Ethan agreed with a serious nod.
Dravian took a deep sigh before twirling the juice in his glass and finally confessing, "I'm not worried about judgment, never from you two. It's just,"
He took a sip to gather his thoughts before adding, "I was betrothed. I don't even know to whom." He wet his lips with his tongue before looking down, "Being a prince was more about what I could be useful for than who I was as a person. All my life, everything was dictated for me. When to sleep, when to eat, what to eat, who to meet, when to meet. It was a cage where I was slowly suffocating. Worse, I had an older brother. The crowned heir. So, despite everything, I wasn't even going to get the throne. I was just a disposable sibling whom they could send to lead war campaigns, marry whomever they chose for political ties, oversee the torture of Zorian enemies and all the dirty work that the crown prince was above. I was always more of a glorified general, closer to the people than my own family." He scoffed, "I don't even remember the last time we had shared a meal like a real family. Probably when I was a little boy and my mother was still alive."
Then, he looked up at them both with more sincerity than he had showed since they met in the arena, "I chose not to return because I fell in love. Not just with you two, but the freedom. With being alive for the first time."
Anara and Ethan each reached to hold one of Dravian's hands making him confess lightly, "I turned off the TV cuz that royal couple reminded me of myself. I wondered if they were just as helpless as I was under jewels and titles. It made me realise how grateful I am to have been abducted beside you two."
"We love you too, Drav." Ethan teased with the nickname making Dravian roll his eyes but didn't complain about it.
"Alright, before either of you makes me cry, finish the breakfast and help me set up a conspiracy board for my new case. Mason will be here in the evening with the files. I requested work from home." Anara returned the conversation to normal, smiling fondly.
